This report presents a comprehensive product life cycle carbon footprint to empower customers in making informed purchasing decisions. It transparently quantifies greenhouse gas emissions associated with each stage of a product's lifecycle, utilizing emission factor sources such as ecoinvent 3.11 and the MEE Announcement of 2022 Electricity Carbon Dioxide Emission Factor. The methodology adheres to standards including the WRI's GHG Protocol for Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting, PAS 2050, IEC TR 62921, ISO 14067, ISO 14040, and ISO 14044. The stages covered include material sourcing and production (Cradle-to-Gate).

GHG Emission Contribution by Material

The pie chart illustrates the greenhouse gas emissions contributed by different materials used in the projector. The breakdown is as follows: Electronic components account for 82.177%, Metal for 11.865%, Plastic for 5.627%, Other materials for 0.182%, and Packaging for 0.150%.

GHG Emission Proportion by Lifecycle Stage

This pie chart details the proportion of greenhouse gas emissions across various lifecycle stages of the projector. The 'Use stage' contributes the largest share at 64.05%. 'Raw material' acquisition accounts for 32.98%. 'Production' contributes 1.18%. 'End-of-life treatment' accounts for 1.65%. 'Distribution' contributes the smallest portion at 0.14%.

Key Assumptions and Limitations

Assumptions

  1. Electricity emissions for the manufacturing phase were calculated using the grid emission factor of the production location (China), as per the MEE 2022 Announcement.
  2. At the time of this study, detailed product sales distribution data by region was not available. Therefore, the product carbon footprint results are presented as an unweighted average of the four primary sales regions (Europe, United States, China, and Taiwan). The product delivery destinations are based on warehouses located in these four major sales regions.
  3. According to Product Category Rules (PCR) for “Digital Projector" published by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, Taiwan, the total energy consumption during the use phase is calculated based on a usage scenario of 3.5 hours of use per day, 100 days per year, and a product lifetime of 5 years.
