Z-NET Quick Start Guide
Overview
Z-NET is a network-connected Z-Wave interface designed to work with HomeSeer smart home hubs and software systems. This guide covers essentials for getting your Z-NET up and running.
Installation and Setup
- Unpack the Z-NET, AC power supply, and Ethernet cable. Connect the cable to the unit and attach the other end to your router or network switch.
- Connect the AC power supply to the unit and plug it in. The unit powers on automatically. The LED on top will blink red for approximately 20 seconds, then glow red upon booting completion.
- Navigate to find.homeseer.com to access the system finder. This page displays a list of connected HomeSeer devices, typically including your HomeTroller hub and your Z-NET. If the Z-NET link is not visible, wait a few minutes and refresh your browser.
- Click the HomeTroller (or HS4) link to access the HomeSeer system's web interface. From there, navigate to the 'Plugins' menu, select 'Z-Wave', and then choose 'Add Interface' to initiate the Z-Net setup process.
- In the 'Add Interface' dialog, you will create a name for your Z-NET, select 'HomeSeer Z-NET Ethernet' as the Model, and configure the interface. For a single Z-NET, select 'Auto' for the configuration. [Note: If multiple Z-NETs are installed, do not select 'Auto'. Instead, choose the specific Z-NET from the dropdown list, such as 'Z-NET-R2' or 'Z-NET-R2-2'.] Click 'Add' to integrate the Z-NET into your system.
WiFi Setup
While a wired Ethernet connection is recommended for reliability, Z-NET can also be configured over WiFi. Follow these steps to enable WiFi:
- Navigate to find.homeseer.com to access the system finder. You should see links for your HomeTroller hub (or HS4 system) and your Z-NET (e.g., Z-NET-R2). Click the link for your Z-NET.
- The Z-NET Configuration screen will appear, allowing you to set up WiFi connectivity. Enter your WiFi network's SSID, Password, Security type (e.g., WPA2-PSK), and Encryption type into the 'Wireless' section. The screen also shows fields for wired network settings and the device's MAC address.
- Click the 'Submit' button. The unit will reboot automatically and connect to your WiFi network.
