Heritage Security Products Gun Safe Guide
Instructions, Safety, and Maintenance Information
Welcome and Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Heritage Gun Safe! Our safes are built to the highest quality standard for a lifetime of security. This guide provides suggestions for handling, installation, and maintenance of your safe.
Important Safety Information
Warnings
- CAUTION: Upon receiving your safe, it may be attached to a shipping pallet secured by 4 lag bolts. A 9/16" socket with extension is required for removal. Ensure a person stabilizes the safe while removing bolts to prevent tipping, injury, or damage.
- The safe door is heavy and closes tightly. Children should use caution when operating the safe, as fingers and limbs can be easily smashed if caught in a closing door.
- This safe may fall forward. Heritage Security Products recommends that this safe be anchored to the floor for maximum security and stability.
- If you experience ANY difficulty opening or closing your safe, DO NOT FORCE THE HANDLE. Forcing or abusing the handle may jam lock components, requiring a safe technician and potentially leading to a warranty claim denial.
Handling and Installation
- To avoid rust, never set the safe directly on a cement floor. Use a spacer between the safe and cement. Avoid sliding the safe on finished floors to prevent damage.
- Your safe must be shimmed level to ensure proper lock function and to prevent the door from swinging open too quickly or closing by itself.
- While the safe is designed to support itself when the door is opened, caution should be used to avoid pulling it over. Anchoring the safe to the floor is recommended. Expansion and lag bolts may be included with some models.
- For long-term storage in areas of high humidity and frequent temperature fluctuations (e.g., garages), use of a dehumidifier is recommended. If storing in a garage, do not leave the safe directly on the cement. Exposure to chemicals or adverse environments may invalidate the warranty.
- Heritage Safes come with a pre-drilled electrical hole (3/8" diameter) on the bottom right-hand side. Some units include a power outlet within the safe for accessories; this is not associated with the lock.
Maintenance
- The mechanism inside the door and the hinges are permanently lubricated and require no maintenance.
- Occasionally, it may be necessary to lubricate the door bolts. Extend the door bolts completely, apply a small amount of oil around each bolt. Clean the safe using an ammonia-free window cleaner and a soft cloth. Avoid using paper towels.
