Included Holders and Accessories
The Magnasonic FS60 comes with various holders and accessories for different media types:
- 35 mm Negative Holder: For scanning 35mm film negatives.
- 110 mm Negative Holder: For scanning 110mm film negatives.
- 126 mm Negative Holder: For scanning 126mm film negatives.
- 135 Slide Holder: For scanning 135 format slides.
- 4x6 Photo Holder: For scanning standard photo prints, accommodating sizes like 3.5x5", 4x6", 4x4", 4.2x3.2", and 3.4x2.1".
- SD Card: For storing scanned images (supports up to 32GB).

Scanner Overview
Front View
The front of the scanner features:
- Power Button: To turn the scanner on/off.
- Film Holder Slot: Where film or slide holders are inserted.
- Battery Charging LED: Indicates battery charging status (battery not included).
- Photo Status LED: Indicates photo scanning status.
- Photo Holder: A slot for placing photos.
- Film Status LED: Indicates film scanning status.
- Photo/Film Switch: A slider to select between photo and film scanning modes.
- OK Button: Used for confirming selections or initiating scans.
- EV/Delete Button: Adjusts exposure value or deletes images.
- Film Type/Up Button: Selects film type or navigates up.
- Playback Button: Enters playback mode to view saved images.
- Photo Size/Down Button: Selects photo size or navigates down.
- Photo/Film Light Switch: Controls the light for photo scanning.
- LCD Screen: Displays status, settings, and images.
Back View
The back of the scanner features:
- Micro USB Power Connector: For connecting the power cable.
- SD Card Slot: For inserting the SD card.
- Battery Door: Access to the battery compartment (battery not included).
LCD Screen Display
The LCD screen displays the following information:
- Film or Slide Type: Indicates the currently selected media type.
- Brightness Setting: Shows the current exposure compensation.
- Number of Saved Images: Displays the count of stored images.
- Battery/Power Indicator: Shows the power status (note: battery not included).
Operating Instructions
IMPORTANT: This scanner requires an SD card up to 32GB (included) in order to scan film or photos.
Inserting an SD Card
- Insert the SD card, face down, into the SD card slot located at the back of the film scanner. The SD card will click in automatically when inserted properly.
- To remove the SD card, press it in until it clicks and pops out, then remove it from the SD card slot.
Powering Your Film Scanner
- Using the included USB cable, connect the micro USB plug into the Micro USB port on the back of the film scanner.
- Connect the other end of the USB-to-Micro cable into the included USB power adapter.
- Connect the USB power adapter to the power outlet.
- Press the power button on the scanner to turn it on. A red LED will turn on when the scanner is powered on.
- You will see a "PC-to-SD Link?" prompt. Select "No" (defaulted) by pressing the OK/ [scan] button.
Note: This scanner's screen will turn off after 3 minutes of inactivity. Press any button to turn the screen back on.
Scanning Film/Slides
- For best scanning results, ensure the film/slides you are scanning are clean and that you clean the inside of the scanner with the included cleaning brush.
- Slide both the top Photo/Film switch and front focus switch to "FILM". The LED beside FILM will turn blue, indicating you are in film scanning mode.
- Ensure the photo holder is placed on the bottom of the film scanner (rubber feet facing down) to keep any additional light from affecting your scanning.
- On the bottom left corner of the screen, you will see an icon representing the film type the scanner is set to scan. It is automatically defaulted to 35mm film. To change the film/slide type, press the TYPE/▲ [up] button until you see the icon that represents your film/slide type.
- Select the appropriate film or slide holder for the film you are scanning.
- Place your film or slides into the holder.
- Close the holder, ensuring it locks with a "click".
- Insert the film holder into the scanner, matching the "A" side of the film holder with the "A" side on the film scanner.
- Press the OK/ [scan] button to scan the picture. The scanned image will automatically store on your SD card.
Scanning Photos
- Slide the top and front Photo/Film switches to "PHOTO". The LED beside PHOTO will turn green, indicating you are in photo mode.
- Place your photo into the photo holder, ensuring the photo fits inside the appropriate orientation.
- Select the size of the photo you are scanning (3.5x5", 4x6", 4x4", 4.2x3.2", or 3.4x2.1") by pressing the SIZE/▼ [down] button.
- Press the OK/ [scan] button to scan the picture. The scanned image will automatically store onto your SD card.
Adjusting Brightness
- The brightness is preset automatically. To adjust the brightness, while in scanning mode, press the EV/ [exposure] button.
- You will see a scale on the right side of the LCD display that you can adjust up (brighter) or down (darker) using the TYPE/▲ [up] and SIZE/▼ [down] buttons.
- Press the EV/ [exposure] button again to save your adjusted brightness setting.
Viewing Saved Images
- To see your captured images directly on the film scanner, press the ▶/►► [playback] button to enter playback mode.
- Scroll forward and backward through saved images by pressing the TYPE/▲ [up] and SIZE/▼ [down] buttons.
Downloading Images To Your Computer
NOTE: All saved images are stored on the SD card inserted in your film scanner.
- Connect the scanner to the computer via the included micro USB cable.
- Turn on the power of your computer and the scanner.
- A prompt will appear on the scanner asking "PC to SD Link?".
- Press the TYPE/▲ [up] to highlight YES.
- Press the OK/ [scan] to select YES.
(Note: When connected to your PC, the scanner's screen will turn off.)
Deleting Saved Images
- To delete a saved image, press the ▶/►► [playback] button to enter playback mode.
- Once you see the image you want to delete, press the EV/ [exposure] button once. Press the TYPE/▲ [up] button to select YES. Press the OK/ [scan] to delete the current image.
- To delete all saved images, press the EV/ [exposure] button twice. Press the TYPE/▲ [up] button to select YES. Press the OK/ [scan] to delete all saved images.
Formatting SD Card
IMPORTANT: Formatting your SD card will delete all files stored on the SD card.
- While in playback mode, press the EV/ [exposure] button three times. Press the TYPE/▲ [up] button to select YES. Press the OK/ [scan] button to format the SD card.
FAQ / Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |

How can I get the best quality scan possible? | Ensure the film/slides are not faded, free of scratches, and that you clean the inside of the scanner with the included cleaning brush immediately before scanning. See page 18 for how to use the cleaning brush. |
How should I prepare the film/slides to ensure the best possible scan? | The film/slide should be free of any dust/fingerprints. This can be done with an appropriate cleaning cloth. |
I've noticed a consistent spot on every slide I have scanned. Is something wrong with my scanner? | There is likely a small amount of dust inside your unit. Use the included cleaning brush to ensure there is no foreign debris. |
Do I need a computer to begin scanning? | Everything is plug-and-play right out of the box. You can save images to an SD card (up to 32GB). You can then export to a computer at a time that is more convenient. |
What file format are the images saved as? | The files are automatically saved in JPG format. |
Can I use this to scan raw film or do I need to develop the negatives first? | The scanner will work for developed film only. |

Magnasonic has outstanding quality control; if something should go wrong with any of our products, we will repair it free of charge! If the product cannot be repaired, we will replace the product. If the product has been discontinued, we will replace the product with either the newest version of said product or current equivalent. Replacement parts furnished in connection with this warranty shall be warranted to a period equal to the unexpired portion of the original product warranty.
Warranty Exclusions
- A. Any defects caused or repairs required as a result of abusive operation, negligence, accident, improper installation or inappropriate use as outlined in the owner's manual.
- B. Any Magnasonic product tampered with, modified, adjusted or repaired by any party other than Magnasonic.
- C. Any cosmetic damage to the surface or exterior that has been defaced or caused by normal wear and tear.
- D. Any damage caused by external or environmental conditions, including but not limited to transmission line/power line voltage or liquid spillage.
- E. Any product received without appropriate model, serial number, and CSA/ cUL/cULus/cETL/cETLus markings.
- F. Any products used for rental or commercial purposes.
- G. Any installation, setup and/or programming charges.
- H. Defect or damage as a result of connecting a product to an outlet with the incorrect voltage. Voltage converters must be used where applicable.
If, in any situation, your purchase displays a manufacturer's defect during the warranty period and does not function correctly, Magnasonic will repair your product and cover all parts, labour, and return costs upon delivery of the Magnasonic product together with proof of purchase.
Products returned to Magnasonic for warranty service must be shipped prepaid (paid by customer). Products must be shipped in the original shipping container or its equivalent; in any case, the risk of loss or damage in transit is to be borne by you.

Important Safety Instructions
IMPORTANT: This scanner requires an SD card up to 32GB (included) in order to scan film or photos.
Getting Started
- Read all warnings below and follow all instructions within this manual.
- Only use films of standard size.
- Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- To save energy, the scanner will automatically shut down after 30 minutes of inactivity. Press the power button to turn back on.
- This film scanner may become slightly warm during use. This does not indicate a malfunction.
Safety Alerts
If any of the following conditions are present, stop using immediately, unplug the power cord, and refer to a qualified service professional for servicing:
- a. If there is any smoke or unusual smell while using.
- b. If the product has been exposed to rain, water, or other liquids.
- c. If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions.
- d. If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.
- e. If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.
Best Practices for Safe Use
- Unwind and straighten the USB cord before use.
- Check that the power voltage stated on the rating label corresponds to your local electricity supply.
- Unplug the power adapter from the wall when the product is unused for a long period of time and during thunderstorms.
- Do not use this product near water.
- Do not immerse this product, the power cord, or any accessories in water or any other liquid.
General Precautions
- Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not place this product near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Do not attempt to service or disassemble this product yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or other hazards.
Cleaning and Care
- Please make sure the scanner is clean before using.
- Do not use liquid cleaners.
- Clean the outside of the product only with a dry cloth.
- Do not clean the inside of this product with anything except for the included cleaning brush.
- To clean with the included cleaning brush, ensure both the top and front Photo/Film switches are set to "Film". Insert the soft end of the brush, face down, into the film/slide holder slot. Carefully push the brush around inside to get rid of any dust or debris that may be on the lens.
FCC Information
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

NOTE: This unit may contain a microcomputer for signal processing and control function. In very rare situations, severe interference, noise from an external source, or static electricity may cause it to lock up. In the unlikely event that this should happen, turn off the unit, wait at least five seconds, and then turn it back on again.
