Safety Messages for Installers and Users of Warning Light Equipment

[Warning Symbol] WARNING

The safety of people depends on the correct installation and operation of Federal Signal (Corp.) products. It is important to read and follow all instructions provided with this product and the original product. Below are other important safety instructions and precautions you must follow:

Product Overview

The SpectraLux® XStream® series LED lightheads are low-current warning lights that mount exclusively inside the vehicle. The lighthead utilizes Solaris® LED reflector technology to provide a bright and effective secondary warning signal. XStream models have 18 LEDs per head, which can be ordered in various color combinations with a clear lens. Models with a main cable (sync) and accessory plug are available.

All XStream models are designed for use with all Federal Signal switch controllers. The XStream is supplied with hardware to mount the lighthead horizontally to the vehicle's headliner or dashboard. Additional mounting kits are available. The lightheads have an operating temperature of -30 °C to +65 °C (-22 °F to +149 °F).

Product Unpacking

After unpacking the product, inspect it to verify that no damage occurred during transit. If it is damaged, do not attempt to install or use it. Immediately file a claim with the carrier, stating the damage incurred. Thoroughly check all envelopes, shipping labels, and tags before removing or destroying them. Ensure that the parts listed in the Kit Contents List are included in the package. If any part is missing, contact Customer Service at 1-800-264-3578, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (CT).

Installing Lightheads

[Warning Symbol] WARNING: AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT: Do not install equipment or route cables in the path of the airbag system deployment. Failure to heed this warning will reduce airbag effectiveness or potentially obstruct the equipment, causing serious injury or death.

[Warning Symbol] WARNING: LIGHT OUTPUT COMPLIANCE: This product is designed to provide supplemental warning along with an approved primary warning light system. Consult local codes and regulations to determine if the power source/lighthead combination meets the horizontal or vertical mounting position required for your application. Failure to heed this warning could result in reduced light output and its effectiveness as a warning system.

[Warning Symbol] WARNING: LIGHT HAZARD: To be an effective warning device, this product produces a bright light that can be hazardous to your vision at close range. Do not look directly at this lighting product at close range or you may permanently damage your vision.

Before installing the lights, read all instructions and plan all wiring and cable routing. To secure and protect the wiring, use cable ties, conduit, and cable supports (supplied by the installer) as needed.

Mounting the Light with Suction Cups

[Warning Symbol] WARNING: SUCTION CUPS ARE FOR TEMPORARY USE ONLY: Suction cup mounting is for temporary applications only. This unit must be removed from the vehicle and stored securely when not in use. Temperature changes and sunlight can cause suction cups to lose their holding power. Periodically check the unit to ensure the suction cups are firmly on the mounting surface. An improperly mounted light may detach from the windshield and cause injury or damage.

To mount the light with suction cups:

  1. Place the appropriate visor onto the lamp head. Press the visor firmly until it snaps into place. Refer to Figure 1 on page 4.
