Safety Messages for Installers and Users of Warning Light Equipment
[Warning Symbol] WARNING
The safety of people depends on the correct installation and operation of Federal Signal (Corp.) products. It is important to read and follow all instructions provided with this product and the original product. Below are other important safety instructions and precautions you must follow:
- To properly install this light, you must have a good understanding of automotive electrical procedures and systems, as well as competence in the installation and service of safety warning equipment. Always consult the vehicle service manuals when performing equipment installations on it.
- DO NOT install equipment or route cables in the path of airbag system deployment.
- When drilling into a vehicle's structure, ensure that both sides of the surface do not contain elements that could be damaged.
- For the light to function correctly, an independent ground connection must be made. If possible, it should be connected to the battery's negative terminal. At a minimum, it can be connected to a solid metal chassis or body part that provides an effective ground path.
- Position the light control so that the VEHICLE and CONTROL can operate safely under all driving conditions.
- The effectiveness of an interior-mounted warning light depends on the clarity, tint, and angle of the glass behind which it is placed. Tint, dirt, and glass with pronounced angles reduce the light output of the warning light. This can reduce the light's effectiveness as a warning signal. If your vehicle has dirty, tinted, or glass with pronounced angles, be extremely careful when driving your vehicle or blocking priority passage with your vehicle.
- Do not attempt to activate or deactivate the light control while driving in a hazardous situation.
- Frequently inspect the light to ensure it is functioning properly and is securely mounted to the vehicle.
- This product contains high-intensity LED devices. To avoid eye damage, DO NOT stare directly at the light beam at close range.
- After installation, test the lights to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- If a vehicle seat is temporarily removed, check with the manufacturer if the seat needs to be recalibrated for proper airbag operation.
Product Overview
- Once testing is complete, provide a copy of these instructions to training personnel and all operating personnel.
- Archive these instructions in a safe place and consult them when performing maintenance or reinstalling the product.
- Failure to follow all safety precautions and instructions may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
The SpectraLux® XStream® series LED lightheads are low-current warning lights that mount exclusively inside the vehicle. The lighthead utilizes Solaris® LED reflector technology to provide a bright and effective secondary warning signal. XStream models have 18 LEDs per head, which can be ordered in various color combinations with a clear lens. Models with a main cable (sync) and accessory plug are available.
All XStream models are designed for use with all Federal Signal switch controllers. The XStream is supplied with hardware to mount the lighthead horizontally to the vehicle's headliner or dashboard. Additional mounting kits are available. The lightheads have an operating temperature of -30 °C to +65 °C (-22 °F to +149 °F).
Product Unpacking
After unpacking the product, inspect it to verify that no damage occurred during transit. If it is damaged, do not attempt to install or use it. Immediately file a claim with the carrier, stating the damage incurred. Thoroughly check all envelopes, shipping labels, and tags before removing or destroying them. Ensure that the parts listed in the Kit Contents List are included in the package. If any part is missing, contact Customer Service at 1-800-264-3578, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (CT).
