Cooking Guide

MICROWAVES

Microwave energy penetrates food, is attracted and absorbed by water, fat, and sugar content. This causes molecules to move rapidly, creating friction and heat.

COOKWARE

Cookware must allow microwave energy to pass through. Suitable materials include ceramic, glass, porcelain, plastic, paper, and wood. Metal reflects microwaves and must not be used.

FOODS SUITABLE FOR MICROWAVE COOKING

Most foods are suitable, including vegetables, fruit, pasta, rice, grains, beans, fish, meat, sauces, custards, soups, puddings, preserves, and chutneys. Microwave cooking is ideal for foods normally prepared on a hob.

COVERING DURING COOKING

Covering food is important as evaporated water rises as steam, aiding the cooking process. Use ceramic plates, plastic covers, or microwave-safe cling film.

STANDING TIMES

After cooking, allow food to stand to even out the temperature.

Cooking Guide for frozen vegetables

Use a glass pyrex bowl with lid. Cook covered for minimum time. Stir during and after cooking. Add salt, herbs, or butter after cooking. Cover during standing time.

REHEATING

Microwave ovens reheat food faster than conventional ovens. Use power levels and times as a guide. Times consider liquids at room temperature (+18 to +20°C) or chilled food (+5 to +7°C).

Arranging and covering:

Avoid reheating large items. Reheat small pieces for better results.

Power levels and stirring:

Use maximum power for some foods, lower power for delicate or large quantities. Stir well or turn food over during reheating.

REHEATING LIQUIDS

Allow at least 20 seconds standing time. Stir during and after heating. Put a spoon or glass stick into beverages to prevent eruptive boiling and scalding.

REHEATING BABY FOOD

BABY FOOD:

Empty into a deep ceramic plate, cover with plastic lid. Stir after reheating. Stand for 2-3 minutes. Stir again and check temperature (recommended 30-40°C).

BABY MILK:

Pour milk into a sterilized glass bottle. Reheat uncovered. Never heat a bottle with the teat on. Shake well before standing and serving. Check temperature carefully (recommended approx. 37°C).

REMARK: Check baby food carefully before serving to prevent burns.

GRILL

The grill-heating element is below the cavity ceiling. It operates with the door closed and turntable rotating for even browning. Preheating for 4 minutes improves browning.

Cookware for grilling:

Should be flameproof and may include metal. Do not use plastic cookware.

Food suitable for grilling:

Chops, sausages, steaks, hamburgers, bacon, rashers, thin fish portions, sandwiches, toast.

IMPORTANT REMARK: Place food on the high rack unless otherwise instructed.

MICROWAVE + GRILL

Combines grill heat with microwave speed. Operates with the door closed and turntable rotating.

Cookware for cooking with microwave + grill:

Use cookware that microwaves can pass through. Cookware should be flameproof. Do not use metal or plastic cookware.

Food suitable for microwave + grill cooking:

Cooked food needing reheating and browning, or foods requiring short cooking times for browning. Suitable for thick portions needing a browned and crispy top.

Food must be turned over for browning on both sides.
