POWER REQUIREMENTS Th e An ab at Exp ress FS can b e p o w ered in t ern ally via 4 x AA b at t eries. Th e Power LED w ill b eg in t o flash w h en t h e b at t ery vo lt ag e is lo w . Wh en it d ro p s b elo w a set volt ag e t he det ector swit ches it self off . If th e Power LED is flash ing you sh ould chang e th e bat t eries im m ed iat ely. All AA b at t eries m u st b e rem oved fro m t h e d et ect o r b efore t h ey are st ored for m ore t h an a few w eeks; o t h erw ise t h e b at t eries w ill slo w ly d isch arg e an d m ay leak, d am ag in g t h e d et ect or. AA b at t eries can b e alkalin e, rech arg eable, o r lit h ium (1.5V). Make sure all 4 bat t eries are fresh an d of t h e sam e t yp e. Do not remove the batteries while the device is on, t o avoid po t en t ial SD card co rrup t ion . Th e Exp ress FS firm w are can b e up d at ed t h ro ug h Toolbox b y usin g an SD card , o r via USB cab le t o yo ur PC. If yo ur d et ect o r is co n n ect ed via USB cab le an d yo ur PC is co n n ect ed t o t h e in t ern et , To o lb o x w ill aut o m at ically ch eck fo r firm w are up d at es. Yo u can n o w d elet e t h e up d at e.ad x file fro m t he SD card w it h yo ur co m p ut er, o r use t h e card ag ain t o up d at e several Exp ress FS reco rd ers. 10 ANABAT EXPRESS FS BASIC OPERATION Th e An ab at Exp ress FS is d esig n ed fo r fast an d easy d ep lo ym en t . Before yo u st art record in g w ith yo u r d etect o r w e recom m en d yo u ch eck fo r firm w are u p d ates. Rem ove th e m icrophone socket dust cap from the m icrop h on e socket on th e front of t h e case. Th e m icro p h on e socket d u st cap can b e st o red in sid e t h e case so it isn 't lo st . 3. Rem ove th e m icrophone from in sid e th e cam ou flag e case an d con n ect it t o th e m icro p h on e socket on t h e fron t o f t h e case. To con n ect it , g en t ly in sert t h e m icro p h on e in t o t h e m icro p h o n e socket (t h ere is a keyw ay t o en su re co rrect alig n m en t ) an d ro t at e t h e kn urled rin g clockw ise t o t ig h t en t h e co n n ect ion fin g er t igh t. Do not t urn t he body of t he microphone or over -tighten t he connect or. Over-tightening or t wist ing t he microphone housing can cause dam age and void warranty. 4. Turn th e d et ect or on b y pressin g t h e Power but ton. 5. By d efau lt yo ur d et ect o r w ill reco rd in fu ll sp ect rum , w it h 320ksp s sam p le rat e o n n orm al sen sitivity. To chang e this, see Recording Set tings. 6. Press th e M ode but ton un til yo ur d esired record in g m o d e is ch o sen . Th ere are th ree record in g m o d es w h ich yo u can ch o o se fro m : sch ed ule, n ig h t an d con t in u o us (see Recording M odes). For m o st surveys, t h e n ig h t reco rd in g m od e is recom m en d ed . 7. Wait for t h e GPS LED t o t urn on solid . Th e d et ect o r w ill au t om at ically t ry t o acq uire sat ellit es t o o b t ain a GPS fix. Wh ile acq uirin g sat ellit es, t h e GPS LED w ill flash . On ce a GPS fix is m ad e, t h e GPS LED w ill p rod uce a so lid lig h t . To assist t h is p rocess, p lace/ h old t h e d et ect or w h ere t h ere is a clear sky view , w it h t h e m icro p h on e facin g skyw ard s. Th e GPS fix w ill au t om at ically set t h e clo ck, record t h e GPS locat io n an d d et erm in e t h e sun set / sun rise t im es. 8. Wh ile t h e case is st ill o p en , ru b yo ur fin g ers in fron t of t h e m icro p h on e ; t h e M icrophone LED w ill flicker t o con firm t h at an u lt raso n ic au d io sig n al is d et ect ed . If 11 t h e LED is st ead ily flash in g co n sist en t ly, t h e m icro p h on e is n o t d et ect ed b y t h e Exp ressFS an d w ill n o t record . 9. On ce n o LEDs are flash in g , yo u can lock t h e lid clo sed an d p lace t h e d et ect or in it s fin al d ep lo ym en t locat ion an d secure.
