Troubleshooting Guide

Should this unit exhibit a problem, check the following before seeking service:

No Power

  • Ensure the POWER button [power button] is pressed.
  • Confirm the AC adapter is securely connected to the unit and a working outlet.
  • Try connecting the unit to a different outlet.
  • Confirm batteries are installed correctly (if applicable).

No Sound - General

  • Volume is set to minimum; raise volume using the MASTER VOLUME control [master volume control].
  • If using an external audio device, raise its volume.
  • Check if a cable is connected to the LINE IN jack [line in jack].

No Sound from Microphone

  • Ensure the microphone is firmly connected to a MIC jack [microphone jacks].
  • Check that the ON/OFF switch on the microphone is in the ON position.
  • Ensure the MIC VOLUME control [mic volume control] is not set too low.
  • Raise the MASTER VOLUME control [master volume control].

Bluetooth Device Cannot Be Paired or Connected

  • Activate the Bluetooth function on your device; refer to its user manual.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth devices to avoid accidental pairing.
  • Ensure the system is in pairing mode; press and hold the PAIR button [pair button] to restart pairing.

Music Not Available After Connecting Bluetooth

  • Ensure your Bluetooth device supports the A2DP Bluetooth profile.
  • Check that the volume on the external Bluetooth device is not set too low or muted.

Making the Connections

Follow these steps to assemble your Singing Machine SMK1010:

  1. Attach the Lower Pedestal (2) to the Base (1).
  2. Attach the Upper Pedestal (3) to the Lower Pedestal (2). Ensure the microphone holders are facing forward.
  3. Slide the LOCK buttons on the pedestals to the LOCK position to secure the assembly.
  4. Connect the Main Unit (4) to the assembled pedestal.
  5. Connect the Wired Microphones [microphone] to the microphone jacks on the Main Unit.
  6. Connect the AC Adapter (5) to the DC jack [DC jack] on the Main Unit and plug it into a wall outlet.

Note: The unit has a kick stand located on the back of the main unit for table top use.

Location of Controls

Identify the controls on the Main Unit:

  1. Power button [power button]
  2. Pair button [pair button]
  3. Line In jack [line in jack]
  4. Mic jacks [microphone jacks] (on unit) & On/Off switch (on microphone)
  5. NONE & Voice Effect buttons [voice effect buttons]
  6. Master Volume control [master volume control]
  7. Mic Volume control [mic volume control]
  8. Record button [record button]
  9. Playback button [playback button]

Operation

  1. Power On: Connect the unit as shown in the illustration. Press the POWER button [power button] to turn the unit on; the power indicator will light up red.
  2. Using a Bluetooth Device: The Bluetooth pair indicator will blink rapidly when the unit is on and in pairing mode. Turn on the Bluetooth function of your compatible device (within three feet). Look for "SM KIDS PEDESTAL" in your device's search list. Select it to start pairing. The Bluetooth indicator will stay lit, and a tone will be heard upon successful pairing. Refer to your Bluetooth device's manual for detailed instructions.
    • If prompted for a passcode, enter "0000".
    • If pairing fails, repeat the steps or press and hold the PAIR button [pair button] to restart pairing.
    • On some devices (like computers), you may need to select "Use as Audio Device" after pairing.
    • It is recommended to start with the volume control at one-third or less.
    • Do not plug an audio cable into the LINE IN jack [line in jack] during Bluetooth operation, as this will switch the mode to LINE IN.
    • Press the Play/Pause button on your Bluetooth device or the PAIR button [pair button] on the unit to start/pause music.
  3. Sing-Along with Line In Music: Connect your audio device to the LINE IN jack [line in jack] on the front of the unit using an audio cable. LINE IN mode is automatically selected. It is recommended to set the volume on the auxiliary device to 1/3 or lower to avoid distortion.
  4. Sing-Along with Microphone: Connect the microphone [microphone] into the microphone jacks [microphone jacks] on the front of the unit. Slide the ON/OFF switch on the microphone to the ON position.
    • Do not drop or tap the microphone to avoid damage.
    • Do not twirl the microphone cord.
  5. Sing-Along with Built-in Voice Effects: Press the VOICE EFFECT buttons (ECHO, FEMALE, MALE, CHIPMUNK, ROBOT, or RADIO) to transform a singer's voice. Press the NONE button to sing without any voice effect.
  6. Adjust Volume: Rotate the MASTER VOLUME control [master volume control] to set the overall volume to a comfortable level.
  7. Adjust Microphone Volume: Adjust the MIC VOLUME control [mic volume control] as desired. Increasing this control increases the volume of both microphones.
  8. Record Singing: During music playback, press the REC button [record button] to record your singing and the music. The record indicator will blink red. Press the REC button [record button] again to stop recording. The unit can record for up to 1 minute.
  9. Playback Voice Recording: Press the PLAYBACK button [playback button] to playback your recorded singing. Press again to stop playback.

Power Adaptor Operation

Insert the DC plug of the power adaptor into the DC jack [DC jack] on the unit. Plug the other end into a standard AC outlet. The AC adapter plug is polarized and fits into the wall outlet only one way. Do not force it.

Battery Operation

  1. Switch off the unit and remove the AC power adaptor.
  2. Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit using a Phillips-head screwdriver [screwdriver].
  3. Insert four (4) "C" size alkaline batteries (not included) as indicated in the compartment.
  4. Replace the cover tightly using the screwdriver [screwdriver].
  5. CAUTION: Replace all batteries at the same time. Do not mix old and new batteries.

Energy Saving Mode (Auto Power System-APS)

This unit will automatically turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity to save energy.

Battery Precautions

  • Warning: Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type [battery symbol].
  • Use only the specified size and type of batteries.
  • Ensure correct polarity when installing batteries.
  • Do not mix different types of batteries or old and fresh batteries.
  • Remove batteries if the device will not be used for a long period.
  • Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Remove batteries promptly when their charge is low.
  • Clean battery contacts and device contacts before installing batteries.
