Safety Information
WARNING! Not a safety component pursuant to 2006/42/EG and EN 61496-1/-2! May not be used for personal protection! Non-compliance can lead to death or serious injury! Only use as directed!
Mounting and Operation
Intended Use
Frame light barriers are sensors for non-contact object detection.
Assembly
- Mount the sensor so the object can pass freely through the detection range.
- Observe device-specific connection and operation details.
- Mount using provided holes; maximum torque for M4 screws is 1.4 Nm.
- Can be mounted in any position, ensuring vibration-free installation.
- Protect from mechanical loads like shocks and impacts.
- Operation is possible without the crossbar; it can be removed by loosening front screws. Crossbar removal does not affect detection range or process value significantly. IO-Link calibration is recommended after crossbar removal.
Ambient Light
If multiple units are used nearby, ensure they do not mutually influence each other. Prevent the transmitter of one unit from shining into the receiver of another. Options include 180° offset mounting or mechanical shadowing.
Detection Range
Objects must be within the detection range. Resolution may be slightly reduced at the edges of the range.
Temperature Range
Operation outside the specified temperature range (-10 °C to +60 °C) is not permitted.
Front Panel Care
Keep the front panel clean using a soft, dust-free cloth.
Sensor Configuration
Sensitivity Setting (Sens)
- Left Stop: Highest sensitivity for detecting very small objects.
- Right Stop: Highest functional reserve for detecting only very large objects.
NO/NC Switching Function
- Left Stop: NO (Normally Open - factory setting).
- Right Stop: NC (Normally Closed).
- Always set the switch to a stop position; avoid intermediate positions.
Sensor Mode (Stat / Dyn)
- Left Stop: Static (factory setting) - detects moving and static objects.
- Right Stop: Dynamic - detects only moving objects, suppresses stationary ones.
- Always set the switch to a stop position; avoid intermediate positions.
Switch-off Delay (Time)
- Left Stop: 0 ms delay.
- Right Stop: 150 ms delay.
Applications
General Application
Frame light barriers detect objects regardless of their position within the detection range. IO-Link configuration enables diverse applications.
Specific Applications
- Detecting and Counting Falling Objects: Suitable for fast-falling objects. Factory default (Static mode) is optimized for this.
- Static Mode: Detects both moving and stationary objects.
- Dynamic Mode: Detects only moving objects, ignoring stationary ones (e.g., tubes, dirt).
- Verification of Falling Objects (via IO-Link): Configurable to verify objects based on shadowing. Learns specific object sizes, rejecting larger/smaller ones.
- Distinguishing Falling Objects (via IO-Link): Differentiates between two object types based on shadowing.
- Determining Zone of Falling Objects (via IO-Link): Identifies the zone (area) an object fell through.
- Checking Objects without Falling Motion (via IO-Link): For presence, position, or feature checks.
IO-Link Interface and Commands
IO-Link Interface Details
- Version: IOL V1.1.3, COM2 (38.4k baud)
- Profile: Smart Sensors 2nd Edition V1.1, SSP 4.1.1
- Recommendation: Use IOL-Master (V5.1+) or IOL-Portable.
IO-Link Process Data
Includes measured values for shadowing, zone detection, stability (SSC1/SSC2), and switching states.
Teach Commands (via IO-Link)
- Dynamic Teach: Learns falling objects, including larger ones. Requires "Teach Start" and "Teach Stop" commands.
- Single Value Teach: For "Shadowing" mode. Learns an object without falling motion to set a switching point. Requires "Teach 1" command.
- Verification Teach: For "Peak Value" mode. Learns falling objects, rejecting different sizes. Requires "Verification Teach Start" and "Verification Teach Stop".
- Object Differentiation Teach: For "Peak Value" mode. Differentiates between objects A and B based on size. Requires "Object A Teach Start", "Object B Teach Start", and "Teach Stop".
Other Commands
- Measurement Control: Stop and start sensor measurements (activate/deactivate).
- Reference Value Setting: Calibrates the sensor to 0 for free light path in specific installations, improving detection of small objects. Requires "Set reference value" command. Ensure front panel is clean during calibration.
- Reference Value Deletion: Resets calibration to factory settings.
Diagnostics
IO-Link diagnostics provide:
- Stability bits for SSC1 and SSC2 in process data.
- Non-resettable data: Device status, internal temperature (current/max), operating hours, number of switch-on cycles.
- Resettable data: Number of switch-on cycles for SSC1/SSC2, minimum/maximum measured value.
- Detailed device status with supported IDs (e.g., 0x4000, 0x5000, 0x8C00, 0x8C01, 0x8C40).
