Safety Definitions

WARNING: Used if there is a risk of injury or death to the operator or bystanders if instructions are not obeyed.

CAUTION: Used if there is a risk of damage to the product, other materials, or the adjacent area if instructions are not obeyed.

General Chainsaw Safety Warnings

Causes and Operator Prevention of Kickback

Kickback occurs when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain. Tip contact can cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching the chain can push the bar rapidly back towards the operator. These reactions can cause loss of control and serious injury.

Safety Devices on the Product

Functions of the User Interface

The user interface includes the start/stop button, SavE button, battery status, and warning indicator. The warning indicator flashes if the chain brake is engaged or if there is a risk of overload. Overload protection stops the product until the temperature decreases. A solid warning light indicates a need to contact a servicing dealer.

The Automatic Stop Function

The product stops automatically if not used for 3 minutes.

Chain Brake and Front Hand Guard

The chain brake stops the saw chain during kickback. It decreases accident risk, but operator vigilance is key.

Power Trigger Lockout

Prevents accidental operation of the power trigger. Push the lockout forward and then against the handle to release the trigger.

Chain Catcher

Catches the saw chain if it breaks or comes loose. Correct chain tension and maintenance reduce this risk.

Right Hand Guard

Protects your hand if the saw chain breaks or comes loose and prevents interference from branches.

To install the battery charger on the wall

CAUTION: Do not use an electric screwdriver.

  1. Install the battery charger on the wall with screws. Use wall plugs if necessary.
  2. Install the screw hole plugs.
  3. Connect the power cord to the battery charger and a mains socket.

Operation

Introduction

Read and understand the safety chapter before use.

To do a function check before you use the product

  1. Check the chain brake for correct operation and damage.
  2. Check the rear right hand guard for damage.
  3. Check the power trigger and lockout for correct operation and damage.
  4. Check the keypad for correct operation.
  5. Ensure handles are free of oil.
  6. Check that all parts are correctly attached, not damaged, and not missing.
  7. Check the chain catcher is correctly attached.
  8. Check the chain tension.
  9. Charge the battery and ensure it is correctly attached.
  10. Ensure the saw chain stops when the power trigger is released.

To use the correct chain oil

Do not use waste oil. Use correct chain oil for proper function. Husqvarna chain oil is recommended, or a standard chain oil with good adherence and correct viscosity for air temperature.

CAUTION: Some chain oils can become too thick below 0°C (32°F), potentially damaging the oil pump.

Battery

Read and understand the safety chapter and the operator's manual for the battery and charger.

Keep battery and charger at correct ambient temperatures for operation and charging (5°C-40°C / 41°F-104°F).

Battery Status

The display shows the state of charge and any battery problems.

To charge the battery

Charge the battery before first use as it is only 30% charged. CAUTION: Connect charger to a power outlet with specified voltage and frequency. Battery will not charge if temperature exceeds 50°C (122°F).

  1. Connect power cord to charger.
  2. Connect charger to a grounded power outlet.
  3. Connect the battery to the charger. Charge for a maximum of 24 hours.
  4. Check battery status; all LEDs on means fully charged.
  5. Unplug charger from outlet.
  6. Remove battery from charger.

Kickback Information

Kickback can cause serious injury or death. Understand causes and prevention.

Kickback occurs when the kickback zone of the guide bar touches an object or wood closes in and pinches the chain. This can cause a sudden reverse reaction, throwing the product towards the operator.

Common Questions About Kickback

Only you and correct working technique can prevent kickbacks.

To start the product

  1. Check power trigger and lockout.
  2. Engage the chain brake.
  3. Insert the battery into the battery holder until it clicks.
  4. Push the start/stop button until the green LED comes on.

To use the SavE function

The SavE function decreases chain speed and power.

  1. Press the SavE button; the green LED lights up.
  2. Press again to disconnect; the green LED goes off.

To stop the product

  1. Press the start/stop button until the green LED goes off.
  2. Press battery release buttons and remove the battery to prevent accidental start.

Pull stroke and push stroke

Cutting can be done with the bottom (pull stroke) or top (push stroke) of the guide bar.

If the saw chain gets caught, the product can be pushed at you. Hold tightly and prevent kickback zone contact.

To use the cutting technique

Use full power when cutting and reduce to idle after each cut. Do not let the motor operate too long without load.

To use the spiked bumper

  1. Push the spiked bumper into the trunk.
  2. Apply full power and rotate the product, keeping the bumper against the trunk to assist cutting.

To cut a trunk on the ground

  1. Cut on the pull stroke, keeping full power. Be prepared for sudden accidents. Ensure the saw chain does not touch the ground when completing the cut.
  2. Cut approximately halfway, then stop. Turn the trunk and cut from the opposite side.

To cut a trunk that has support on one end

Ensure the trunk does not break during cutting.

  1. Cut on the push stroke approximately halfway through the trunk.
  2. Cut through the remaining part on the pull stroke until the two kerfs meet.

To cut a trunk that has support on two ends

Ensure the saw chain does not get caught in the trunk.

  1. Cut on the pull stroke approximately halfway through the trunk.
  2. Cut the remaining part on the push stroke to complete the cut.

If the saw chain gets caught, stop the motor. Use a lever to open the kerf and remove the product. Do not pull by hand.

To use the limbing technique

For thick branches, use the cutting technique. WARNING: High accident risk when limbing. Refer to Kickback Information.

To use the tree felling technique

Experience is required for felling trees. Consider training.

To free a trapped tree

Very dangerous; high accident risk. Keep out of risk zone. Use winches (tractor-mounted or portable).

To cut trees and branches that are in tension

Maintenance and Checks of Safety Devices

To clean the cooling system

Clean the air intake and fan weekly or more often if needed. Ensure the system is not dirty or blocked, as this can cause overheating and damage.

To sharpen the saw chain

Use approved guide bar/saw chain combinations. Sharpen teeth correctly using recommended files and file gauges for optimal performance and minimum kickback risk.

To adjust the tension of the saw chain

A saw chain with incorrect tension can derail. Adjust regularly, and check each time you refill chain oil.

To check the saw chain lubrication

Check lubrication every third battery charge. Start product, run at 3/4 power, hold bar 20 cm (8 inches) above a light surface. A clear line of oil should appear after 1 minute. If not, check and clean the oil channel, bar groove, and bar tip sprocket lubricating hole.

To check the chain drive sprocket

Examine for wear. Replace if necessary, and replace the drive sprocket each time the saw chain is replaced.

To examine the cutting equipment

To check the guide bar
