Slim 3U
Quick Start Guide
1 Install Software
Download and run the latest software installer on your host computer. Please visit www.optitrack.com/support/downloads/ for a list of compatible software.
2 Setup Camera Network
Single Camera:
Connect the Slim 3U camera to a USB port of an OptiHub 2 or generic USB hub or port.
Diagram 1: Single camera to USB port: A line drawing depicting a Slim 3U camera connected via a USB cable to an OptiHub device.
Multiple Cameras:
Multiple OptiTrack cameras may be synchronized for greater precision, via a RCA Sync Break-out Cable.
Note: Multiple Slim 3U cameras plugged into an OptiHub 2 will not sync with each other (unlike OptiTrack's Flex 3 and Flex 13 USB cameras).
When using Slim 3U cameras, all cameras in the sync chain must be of the same type. Mixed sync environments are not supported.
1. Plug in RCA Sync Break-Out Cable to each camera (see Diagram 2).
2. Connect master device's “out” connector to slave camera's “in” connector using a RCA Sync Break-Out Cable (sold separately).
3. Initiate camera synchronization via software.
Diagram 2: Multiple camera network using RCA Sync Break-Out Cable: A line drawing illustrating a multi-camera synchronization setup. It shows a 'Master' device with a 'Sync Out' connection leading via RCA cables to 'Slave' cameras, each with a 'Sync In' connection. A Slim 3U Break-Out Cable is also depicted.
3 Install Lens (Optional)
Thread the lens into included lens holder/adapter until finger tight.
- PCB-only Slim 3U camera (no case) only supports M12 lenses.
- Mounting an M12 lens on a Slim 3U camera with the case requires a CS to M12 adapter.
- OptiTrack's M12 lenses should be installed with the included Wave Spring for secure focusing.
- CS lenses can be installed directly onto the Slim 3U case.
- C lenses require a CS to C adapter before mounting onto the camera case.
Lens Installation Diagrams: Visuals show the installation of M12 lenses on PCB and cased cameras, as well as CS and C lenses on cased cameras, often with a wave spring for focusing.
4 Install Filter Plug or Filter Switcher (Optional)
- Insert Filter Plug/Filter Switcher into slot on the side of M12 lens holder (right-side slot if camera is upright and facing you).
- Tighten set screw on right side of plug.
- If Filter Switcher: Plug two-pin connector into jack at top rear of board. Route wire through notch at top of board.
Note: Perform steps in reverse to uninstall Filter Plug/Filter Switcher.
Filter Installation Diagrams: Visuals show a PCB with an M12 lens holder, either with a Filter Switcher or a Filter Plug, and a labeled two-pin connector.
Technical Notes
- Make sure all USB hubs used with the device are externally powered (plug into wall).
- For best performance, use the device with OptiTrack's OptiHub 2.
- Users must have administrative privileges to install the USB drivers on their computer.
- Important: Slim 3U cameras must have a lens installed to track and capture video.
