Mesle Tow Harness: Warnings and Instructions for Use

Product Overview

Tow harnesses are designed to connect tow ropes (such as those for waterskiing or tubing) to a boat. They are used when the boat lacks a central towing point and instead has tow eyes on the sides of the transom, commonly found on boats with outboard motors or stern drives. The harness attaches to the transom using two carabiners, one on each side. The end of the tow rope is then secured to the tow eye of the tow harness.

The length of the tow harness should be selected based on the boat's motor size and the distance between the tow eyes. This ensures the rope never contacts the propeller and avoids unnecessary slack.

WARNING

Use of this product and participation in this sport can result in serious injury or death. The user assumes all risks of injury or death.

Instructions for Use

  1. Only use the tow harness as intended.
  2. Ensure the rope is free from body parts before and during use.
  3. Operate the watercraft only in the presence of a qualified driver and observer.
  4. Always establish clear signals between the boat driver and the riders.
  5. Always wear a CE/ISO-certified or otherwise authority-approved life jacket or other personal flotation device (PFD).
  6. The rope will stretch during use. If the rope is not properly secured or breaks, the sudden release can cause it to snap back and injure boat occupants or the rider.
  7. Always ensure that the tow eyes on the boat are strong enough to carry the towed load.
  8. Do not operate a watercraft or participate in the sport if under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  9. Never operate near swimmers, shorelines, docks, shallow water, other watercraft, or obstacles.
  10. Always use an appropriate tow harness for the number of people or the load.
  11. Keep the rope away from the propeller. If the rope becomes entangled in the propeller, turn off the engine and remove the ignition key.
  12. Inspect the tow harness and attachments before each use. Check for wear, cuts, sharp edges, and knots. Do not use if damaged.
  13. Detach the tow harness and the tow rope immediately after the activity. Store them properly in the boat.
  14. The lifespan of the tow harness is reduced by direct exposure to sunlight. Store the rope in the shade and in a dry place.

Maximum Load

Warning! Exceeding the maximum load may cause the rope to break.

Type Max. Load
1-Person Tow Harness 1 Person / 170 lbs (77 kg)
2-Person Tow Harness 2 Persons / 340 lbs (154 kg)
4-Person Tow Harness 4 Persons / 680 lbs (308 kg)

Attachment of Tow Rope with Quick-Connect Hook (A)

This section describes how to attach the tow rope to the tow harness using a quick-connect hook.

Steps:

  • 1. Pass the loop at the end of the tow rope through the loop of the Quick-Connect hook.
  • 2. Place it over the two prongs of the hook.
  • 3. Tighten the rope.

Diagram Description: A visual guide shows three steps: (1) The rope loop and hook are shown separately. (2) The rope loop is placed over the hook's prongs. (3) The rope is shown tightened and secured.

Tow Harness Length – Boat Size (B)

This section provides guidance on selecting the correct tow harness length based on boat size.

  • 8' (244 cm) – Small boats
  • 9' (274 cm) – Small to mid-sized boats
  • 10' (304 cm) – Mid-sized to large boats
  • 12' (366 cm) – Large boats

Meaning of Length Specifications (C)

This explains how the length specifications relate to boat size.

Example: A 12' tow harness is suitable for large boats.

Diagram Description: A diagram illustrates the concept, showing two 6-foot (approx. 1.8 meter) lines extending from a central point, indicating recommended harness lengths for different boat sizes.
