Camera Views
Front View:
- 1. Shutter Button: Focuses and locks exposure when half-pressed, takes the picture when fully pressed.
- 2. ON/OFF Button: Turns the camera power on and off.
- 3. Flash: Provides illumination.
- 4. Viewfinder Window: For framing shots.
- 5. Self-timer Indicator: Blinks red during self-timer operation.
- 6. AF Assist Illuminator/Speaker: Illuminates the subject for focusing and reproduces camera sounds/recorded clips.

SET / Button Setup
Buttons:
- SET Button: Enters menus and confirms selections.
- Up/Down/Left/Right Buttons: Navigate menus, select options, adjust settings.
Battery Installation and Charging
Installation: Open the battery/SD card cover, insert the battery according to orientation, and close the cover.
Removal: Open the cover, release the latch, and gently pull out the battery.
Charging: Insert the AC adapter into the camera's conversion adapter terminal and plug the charger into a wall outlet. The green indicator light shows charging status.
SD Card Installation and Removal
Installation: Open the battery/SD card cover, insert the SD card with the label facing the rear, and push until it clicks.
Removal: Open the cover, push the SD card edge, and it will pop out.
Note: The camera will display "NO CARD" if no SD card is inserted. Use the LOCK tab on the SD card to prevent accidental deletion.
Power ON/OFF
Press the ON/OFF button. The viewfinder indicator turns green when the camera is ready. The flash may take a few seconds to charge (indicated by an orange light).
Date and Time Setup
Set the date and time when first using the camera or after the battery has been removed for an extended period. Use the navigation buttons and SET to adjust and confirm.
Language Selection
Choose the language for the LCD monitor menus and messages. Options include English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
SD Card Formatting
Formatting erases all data on the SD card. Ensure you back up important files before formatting. The card cannot be formatted if it is locked.
Camera Controls and Indicators
Viewfinder Indicator
Green: Charging complete, AE/AF locked. Blinking Green: Charging. Red: Charging error, out of focus, flash charging. Blinking Red: Hardware malfunction.
LCD Monitor Icons (Shooting Mode)
The LCD monitor displays various icons indicating:
- Zoom status
- Voice memo status
- Battery level
- Flash status (Auto, Red-eye reduction, Forced flash, Night scene, Flash off)
- Histogram
- Focus area
- Shooting mode (Single, Continuous, AEB)
- Image size and quality
- Shots remaining
- Self-timer
- Exposure compensation
- Metering mode
- White balance settings
- Focus mode
- Date/Time display
Shooting Modes
Still Image Mode [0]
This is the standard mode for photography. The camera automatically adjusts exposure and focus. You can frame shots using the viewfinder or the LCD monitor.
Using the Viewfinder: Frame your shot, half-press the shutter button to focus and set exposure, then fully press to take the picture. The focus area frame turns blue and the viewfinder indicator turns green when focus and exposure are set.
Using the LCD Monitor: Frame your shot on the LCD monitor, half-press and then fully press the shutter button.
Movie Mode [木]
Records video clips at 320x240 resolution with sound. Press the shutter button to start recording. Press it again to stop and save the clip.
Zoom
Optical Zoom: Use the T/W buttons to zoom in (telephoto) or out (wide-angle).
Digital Zoom: Can be enabled in settings for additional magnification, but may reduce image quality.
Flash Settings
Select flash modes like Auto, Forced Flash, Red-eye Reduction, Night Scene (with slow sync), or Flash Off, depending on the shooting conditions.
Focus Settings
Choose between Autofocus, Macro, or Infinity focus modes.
Self-Timer
Set a delay (10s, 2s, or 10+2s) before the photo is taken.
Exposure Compensation / Backlight Correction
Adjust the exposure level (+/- 2.0 EV) to compensate for difficult lighting situations, such as backlit subjects or high contrast scenes.
Playback Modes
Still Image Playback
View still images on the LCD monitor. Use the navigation buttons to scroll through images. Press the IOI button to cycle through different information displays (file number, date, quality, etc.).
Movie Playback
View recorded video clips. Use navigation buttons for fast forward/rewind. Press SET to pause/resume playback.
Playback on TV
Connect the camera to a TV using the A/V cable to view images and videos on a larger screen. Ensure the correct TV system (NTSC/PAL) is selected.
Thumbnail Display
View up to 9 thumbnail images at once for quick browsing. Use the W button to activate and navigate.
Zoom Playback
Zoom in on images during playback (2x or 4x) to examine details. Use T/W buttons to adjust zoom level and navigate the zoomed area.
Slideshow
Automatically plays back all stored still images in sequence. Press SET to pause or resume.
Protect Images
Mark images as "read-only" to prevent accidental deletion. You can protect single images, all images, or select specific ones.
Delete Images
Delete unwanted images. Options include deleting the last image, a single selected image, all images (except protected ones), or multiple selected images.

Still Image Menu (Picture)
Adjust settings for still image capture:
- Size: Select image resolution (e.g., 2272x1704, 1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480).
- Quality: Choose compression level (Fine, Standard, Economy).
- Sharpness: Adjust image sharpness (Hard, Normal, Soft).
- Contrast: Adjust contrast levels (Hard, Normal, Soft).
- Color: Select color modes (Standard, Vivid, Sepia, Monochrome).
- White Balance: Set for different lighting conditions (Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy, Manual).
- Manual WB: Custom white balance setting.
- ISO: Adjust sensitivity (50, 100, 200, Auto).
- Metering: Select metering mode (Multi, Spot).
Still Image Menu (Function)
Configure additional shooting functions:
- Voice Memo: Enable/disable voice recording for images.
- Preview: Enable/disable post-shot preview on LCD.
- LCD Bright: Adjust LCD screen brightness.
- Digital Zoom: Enable/disable digital zoom.
- Date Print: Enable/disable date stamping on images.
Movie Mode Menu (Picture & Function)
Adjust settings specific to movie recording, including Quality, Contrast, Color, LCD Bright, and Digital Zoom.
Playback Menu
Configure playback options:
- Slide Show: Set up automatic playback of images.
- DPOF: Configure print settings for compatible printers.
- Protect: Set images to read-only.
- LCD Bright: Adjust LCD brightness.
Setup Menu (Shooting & Playback)
Configure general camera settings:
- Beep: Enable/disable camera sounds.
- Fr. No. Reset: Reset frame numbering.
- Date/Time: Set camera date and time.
- Auto OFF: Set automatic power-off timer.
- Sys. Reset: Reset camera to factory defaults.
- Language: Select menu language.

Transferring Files to Computer
Connecting the Camera
Connect the camera to your computer using the provided USB cable. Ensure the camera is powered on.
Installing USB Driver
For Windows 98 users, install the USB driver from the included CD-ROM. Windows 2000/ME/XP do not require a separate driver.
Downloading Photos and Videos
Once connected, the camera will appear as a removable disk. Navigate to the DCIM folder to find your photos and videos. Copy them to your computer.
Software Installation
The CD-ROM includes software like PhotoSuite (for image editing) and PhotoVista (for panoramic images). Follow the on-screen instructions to install them.
