2. Basic Operations

2.1 Charging the Battery

CAUTION: Read the Safety Information Booklet before charging. Use the approved charger. Lithium-ion battery power is limited to 30% for shipment per IATA regulations. Use the charger with the battery alone or attached to the radio (applies to HP36X, HP31X, HP28X). The LED indicator on the charger shows status. Use the USB Type-C cable to connect the radio to a power adapter, power bank, or PC. The LED indicator on the radio shows charging status:

2.2 Turning On or Off the Radio

Long press the [On-Off Key].

2.3 Adjusting the Volume

Press the [Volume UP Key] to increase volume or [Volume Down Key] to decrease volume.

2.4 Selecting a Zone

Press the preprogrammed [Zone Up] or [Zone Down] key. Alternatively, go to Menu > Zone to select a zone (applies to HP36X and HP28X).

2.5 Selecting a Channel

Rotate the [Channel Selector Knob].

2.6 Call Services

To maintain audio quality, keep your mouth 2.5 to 5 cm from the microphone.

2.6.1 Initiating a Call on Digital Channel

NOTE: This feature is available only for HP36X and HP31X.

2.6.2 Initiating a Call Without Signaling on Analog Channel

  1. Rotate the [Channel Selector Knob] to select the analog channel.
  2. Press and hold the [PTT Key].

3.1 LED Indicator

3.2 LCD Icons

This feature is available only for HP36X and HP28X.

[No Signal]The radio detects no signal.
[Signal Strength]The number of bars indicates the signal strength.
[Low Power Mode]The radio operates in low power mode.
[High Power Mode]The radio operates in high power mode.
[Scanning]The radio is scanning.
[Direct Mode]Direct Mode: The radio transmits and receives directly.
[Repeater Mode]Repeater Mode: The radio transmits and receives through a repeater.
[VOX Enabled]The VOX feature is enabled.
[Speaker On]The speaker is turned on.
[Silent Mode]The radio operates in silent mode.
[Accessory Connected]An accessory is connected.

Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. RF Exposure Information

The device has been tested and complies with SAR limits. Users can obtain Canadian information on RF exposure and compliance. SAR tests are conducted using standard operating positions accepted by the FCC/ISEDC with the device transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of the device while operating can be well below the maximum value. Before a new model device is available for sale, it must be tested and certified to the FCC/ISEDC that it does not exceed the exposure limit. Tests for each device are performed in positions and locations (worn on the body) as required by the FCC/ISEDC. For face-up, 25mm was used for test; this equipment should be installed and operated with minimum distance 25mm. For body worn operation, this device has been tested and meets the FCC/ISEDC RF exposure guidelines when used with an accessory designated for this product or when used with an accessory that contains no metal. Non-compliance with the above restrictions may result in violation of RF exposure guidelines.

Compliance Information

This radio complies with IEEE and ICNIRP exposure limits for occupational/controlled RF exposure environment at operating duty factors of up to 50% and is authorized by the FCC/ISEDC for occupational use only.
