Metapen Pencil A8: Pre-use Notes and Troubleshooting Guide

Pre-use Notes

1. Make sure Pencil A8 is compatible with your iPad. You can find your iPad model name in iPad Settings: Settings > Tap General > Tap About > Model name.
2. Metapen A8 ONLY works with the following models:
   • iPad Pro 13-inch M4
   • iPad Pro 12.9-inch 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd Gen
   • iPad Pro 11-inch M4, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st Gen
   • iPad 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th Gen
   • iPad Air M2, 5th, 3rd, 4th Gen
   • iPad Mini 6th/5th Gen
3. Not supported on iPhone, Android devices, Surface, Chromebook, or Kobo.
4. Ensure your iPad is running iOS 12.2 or later.
5. If your iPad has previously been paired with an Apple Pencil, unpair it before using Metapen A8.
6. Charge A8 for 10 minutes before first use.
7. Double-tap the rounded end of Pencil A8 with your finger to turn it on/off. No need to connect Bluetooth or apps.
8. Pencil A8 will automatically turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Quick Troubleshooting for Pencil A8

My iPad is compatible with A8, why it doesn't seem to work?

Before first use, please charge A8 for 10 minutes and confirm the following settings:

1. Double-tap the rounded end of Pencil A8 with your finger to turn it on/off.
2. Loosen the pen tip slightly or replace the tip.
3. Ensure your iPad is running iOS 12.2 or later.
4. Unpair any existing Apple Pencil from your iPad: Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Tap the 'i' icon next to Apple Pencil > Forget This Device.
5. In iPad Settings, navigate to Settings > Apple Pencil and turn off "Only draw with Apple Pencil".
6. If your iPad's original screen has been replaced, the A8 may not work correctly.

Why can't I pair my iPad with A8 via Bluetooth?

The Pencil A8 does not have Bluetooth functionality. As long as the iPad is compatible with the A8, simply double-tap the rounded end of Pencil A8 with your finger to turn it on, and it will work on the iPad.

Why doesn't palm rejection work?

Please go to iPad Settings > Apple Pencil and turn on "Only draw with Apple Pencil". If this method does not resolve the issue, please contact Metapen support.

Why can't I swipe down with Pencil A8 to open the Control Center or swipe up to enter the Task Center?

To prevent accidental touches while writing or drawing near the edges of the screen, the iPad disables swipe gestures for iPad pencils. This behavior is consistent with the original Apple Pencil.

Why does the pen work in some areas of the screen but not others?

If your iPad's original screen has been replaced, the A8 may not function properly.

Why did the battery run out so quickly?

Under normal circumstances, the A8 should last for approximately 10 hours on a full charge. If the battery drains quickly, you may have received a defective product. Please contact Metapen support.

Why doesn't tilt sensitivity work?

Tilt sensitivity is designed for specific brushes such as pencil, crayon, and marker brushes. You can select a pencil brush under "Sketch" in apps like iPad Notes or Procreate (e.g., "HB Pencil") and tilt the pen at different angles to achieve various shading effects.

Why doesn't pressure sensitivity work?

Only the original Apple Pencil offers this feature. However, popular apps like Procreate, Goodnotes, and Noteshelf can simulate pressure sensitivity by adjusting brush effects, size, flow, etc.

Why can't I power on the pen after double-tapping it?

Please quickly double-tap the rounded end of Pencil A8 with your finger to turn it on/off. If it does not work, you may have received a defective product. Please contact Metapen support.

Why doesn't the Pencil A8 support custom functions in the Wellnote APP?

The custom functions in the Wellnote APP are exclusive to pencils A11 and D1, which feature Bluetooth. Pencil A8 can only utilize the note-taking function within Wellnote.
