Optimum Vibe OP-WFSTAT Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat User Guide

Introduction to the OP-WFSTAT

The OPTIMUM VIBE, model OP-WFSTAT, is a programmable thermostat that offers both radio frequency (RF) and Wi-Fi connectivity. When configured for T.P.I. (Time Proportional Integral) control, it meets the UK Government BEIS Department's criteria for Class IV control, contributing 2% to the system's energy efficiency.

The system consists of a transmitter (thermostat) and a receiver. The transmitter is battery-powered (2 x AAA alkaline), while the receiver is mains-powered with volt-free switching capabilities.

Communication between the transmitter and receiver occurs over the license-free 868 MHz radio band. The receiver integrates both 868MHz RF and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi communications. Control of the thermostat and receiver can be managed remotely via a smartphone using the Smart Life App or the Tuya Smart App, provided you have a Wi-Fi connection.

Getting Started with App Control

To control your OP-WFSTAT thermostat, you will need to install a compatible mobile application on your smartphone. You can choose between the Smart Life App or the Tuya Smart App.

App Installation:

  • Install the Smart Life App on your iOS or Android mobile phone. You can scan the provided QR code for your device or search for "Smart Life" on the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
  • The Tuya Smart App can also be used to control your Optimum Connect devices. Scan the provided QR code for the Tuya Smart app.

Initial Setup:

  1. Load the chosen app and follow the on-screen instructions to create your user account.
  2. Before adding the thermostat, ensure the receiver is connected and powered up.
  3. Wi-Fi Network Requirement: If your smartphone is connected to a dual-band Wi-Fi router, make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz network. You may need to separate your router's 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks in your router's settings, as smartphones often default to the 5GHz network.

Adding the Thermostat to the App

Once the app is installed and your account is set up:

  1. In the app's home screen, touch the '+' icon (typically in the top-right corner) to add a new device.
  2. Select 'Small Home Appliances' from the left-hand column.
  3. Choose 'Thermostat Wi-Fi' from the list of available devices. You may need to scroll down to find the correct icon.
  4. Screenshot of the mobile app's device addition screen, showing categories like 'Small Home Appliances' and the option to select 'Thermostat Wi-Fi'.
  5. If prompted, re-enter your Wi-Fi router password.
  6. Receiver Pairing: Press and hold the manual button on the receiver until the Red 'Heating on' LED flashes rapidly. Release the button; the LED should continue flashing rapidly.
  7. In the app, press 'Confirm'. The app will then load the device, and the LED on the receiver should stop flashing.
  8. The OP-WFSTAT will now appear on your app's home screen with its corresponding icon.

Understanding LED Indicators

The OP-WFSTAT has two indicator LEDs on the receiver:

  • Red 'Heating on' LED: This LED indicates the output state of the heating system. It is ON when heating is active and OFF when it is not. It flashes quickly when the device is in Wi-Fi or RF configuration mode. It flashes slowly if the Wi-Fi connection is lost or RF communication has failed.
  • Green 'Power' LED: This LED is ON and flashes once per second when the receiver is connected to power.

Controlling Your Thermostat via the App

The app provides comprehensive control over your heating system. The home screen offers access to various functions:

Switching ON/OFF

Use the 'Switch' function to turn the transmitter (thermostat) ON or OFF. Turning the thermostat OFF will save battery power but will also stop the thermostat from controlling the heating, leaving the heating system OFF.

Setting the Temperature

Use the temperature slider or the up/down arrows ( indicated by [up-arrow] and [down-arrow] symbols) on the app screen to change the current temperature set-point.

Mode Selection

The 'Mode' function allows you to quickly switch between different heating modes: Auto (programmed temperature), Manual, or ECO. Manual and ECO temperature levels can be customized from the Setpoint screen.

Icon for Mode Switching: Use this icon [mode-switch-icon] to switch quickly between Manual, ECO (where you set your own preferred temperature, retained for next use), or Auto (current program or schedule in operation).

Accessing Additional Functions

Touch the Heating Thermostat panel icon [thermostat-icon] to open access to additional functions.

Device Management and Settings

Pen Icon: Touch the pen icon [pen-icon] to re-name the device, and view or amend basic device settings and functions. This includes options for device sharing and remote operation (e.g., with Amazon Echo). From this screen, you can also remove the device from the app.

Settings Icon: Touch the settings icon [settings-icon] to view or amend the week program, set a Child lock, fine-tune temperature correction, enable or disable frost protection, or perform a factory data reset.

Timed Schedules

Clock Icon: Touch the clock icon [clock-icon] to enter a timed schedule if required. This schedule will switch the transmitter ON and OFF, thereby enabling or disabling the weekly program, according to your specific requirements.

Weekly Program Screen: This screen allows you to adjust the day, time, and temperature programming for your weekly heating schedule.
