Gotoh T1802 / T1502 Tremolo Bridge

Attaching the Tremolo Arm

The tremolo arm features a snap-in/snap-out design. To attach, hold the corner of the tremolo arm and press it firmly into the arm socket of the base plate.

Use the torque adjustment cap to set the tightness of the tremolo arm. Turning the cap clockwise increases tightness, while turning it counterclockwise loosens it.

Stud Lock

The T1802/T1502 tremolo bridge is equipped with a stud lock function for stability.

  1. Insert a 1.5 mm HEX key wrench into the hole at the top of the stud bolt.
  2. Turn the stud lock bolt clockwise until it contacts the anchor nut and can no longer rotate. This secures the stud.

To release the stud lock, simply loosen the stud lock bolt.

Adjusting the Action

To adjust the overall height of the tremolo unit, use a 2.5 mm HEX key wrench to turn the stud bolts located on the left and right sides of the tremolo unit.

For individual saddle height adjustments, use a 1.5 mm HEX key wrench.

MEMO: Ensure the stud lock is released before adjusting the height of the stud bolt.

Adjusting the Intonation

Intonation can be adjusted by moving the saddles forward or backward using a Phillips head screwdriver (+).

Replacing the Strings

To replace strings, thread the new strings through the string holes located on the back of the guitar. The strings then pass through the tremolo block and over the saddles.

Adjusting the Tremolo Attachment Angle

The tremolo attachment angle is adjusted by balancing the string tension against the tension of the tremolo springs located on the back of the guitar body. For optimal performance, the tremolo should be approximately horizontal to the guitar body's surface.

  1. With the guitar tuned correctly, check the tremolo's angle.
  2. If the tremolo tilts forward, insert a Phillips head screwdriver through the slit in the tremolo spring cover on the back of the body and tighten the screw to increase spring tension.
  3. If the tremolo tilts backward, loosen the screw to decrease spring tension.

Note: Adjusting the tremolo spring tension will affect tuning due to changes in the balance between string and spring tension. Retune the guitar as needed during this adjustment.

Tremolo Springs

The guitar is shipped with three tremolo springs installed in parallel. If significant changes in string tension occur (e.g., changing string gauges or using dropped tuning), you may need to adjust the number or arrangement of the tremolo springs.

  1. To increase tension, install the two outer tremolo springs diagonally.
  2. To decrease tension, remove the center tremolo spring.

Important: Loosen the strings sufficiently before installing or removing tremolo springs.
