1 Hardware Overview
Note: This guide uses EAP650 V1 as an example. Images may differ from the actual product.
Front Panel
LED Indicator
- On: Working normally/Initializing.
- Off: Working abnormally/Power off/LED is turned off.
- Flashing:
- Initialization: LED flashes twice after initialization.
- Upgrade: LED flashes once per second during upgrade.
- Reset: LED flashes quickly during reset, then the EAP reboots.
- Isolated: LED flashes slowly; the EAP is in an isolated state.
- Locate: LED flashes quickly when the Locate feature is activated in the Omada controller to help identify the device. The LED will flash for 10 minutes, or until the feature is manually disabled.
Rear Panel
- RESET Button: Press and hold for about 5 seconds until the LED flashes quickly to restore factory default settings.
- Ethernet Port (ETH PoE): Connects to a router or switch for data transmission. Can also connect to a PSE (like a PoE switch) for data and Power over Ethernet (PoE). Supports 10/100/1000 Mbps speeds.
- Power Port: Connect the provided power adapter to power the EAP. Use only the provided adapter.
2 Hardware Installation
The EAP can be mounted to the ceiling, wall, or in a junction box using the provided screws. Ensure proper heat dissipation through the metal bracket during use.
Option 1: Ceiling Mounting
Note: Ensure the ceiling tile is larger than the EAP.
- Remove the ceiling tile.
- Place the mounting bracket in the center of the ceiling tile. Mark four positions for screw holes and one for the Ethernet cable. Drill four 4 mm (5/32 in) diameter holes and one 25 mm (63/64 in) diameter hole.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the ceiling tile using four M3x30 pan-head screws, washers, and wing nuts.
- Feed the Ethernet cable through the hole and replace the ceiling tile.
- Attach the EAP to the mounting bracket by rotating it until it locks into place.
Option 2: Wall Mounting
- If the Ethernet cable feeds through the wall, position the mounting bracket below the cable hole. Mark four positions for screw holes and drill four 6 mm (15/64 in) diameter holes.
- Insert the plastic wall anchors into the holes.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the wall with M3x20 self-tapping screws into the anchors. Ensure the bracket's shoulders are on the outside.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the EAP's Ethernet port.
- Attach the EAP to the mounting bracket by rotating it until it locks into place.
Option 3: Junction Box Mounting
Prepare cables and junction box. Ensure mounting holes align with your junction box. Compatible wall junctions are shown.
- Route cables through the bracket's square hole. Secure the bracket to the junction box using screws.
- Follow steps 4 and 5 from Option 2 to complete the installation.
3 Power Supply
The EAP can be powered via a power adapter or a PoE switch (compliant with LPS or PS2 standard).
Option 1: Via PoE Switch (Compliant with 802.3at)
Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE switch (compliant with 802.3at) to the EAP's Ethernet port. (Note: EAP610 V3 also complies with 802.3af).
Option 2: Via Power Adapter
Plug the provided power adapter into the EAP's power port and the other end into a standard electrical outlet. (Note: Power adapter is not included with EAP653).
4 Software Configuration
Choose a setup method:
Method 1: Standalone Mode
Configure and manage EAPs individually. Suitable for small networks.
Via Omada App
- Download the TP-Link Omada App from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect your mobile device to the EAP using the default SSID (e.g., TP-Link_2.4GHz/5GHz_XXXXXX) found on the product label.
- Open the Omada App. The EAP should appear on the Standalone APs page. Tap the EAP to configure it. The app is for quick setup; advanced settings can be configured via the EAP's web page or Controller Mode.
Via Web Browser
- Connect wirelessly using the default SSID.
- Open a web browser and navigate to http://tplinkeap.net. Log in using 'admin' for both username and password.
- Set a new username and password for secure management. Modify wireless parameters and reconnect devices to the new network.
Repeat for other EAPs if necessary.
Method 2: Controller Mode
Configure and manage EAPs in batches using the Omada Controller.
Omada Controller Types:
- Omada Software Controller: Install on a PC (Windows/Linux) from https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/omada-software-controller/. The controller must remain running.
- Omada Hardware Controller (OC200/OC300): A separate hardware device for managing Omada devices. Refer to its Installation Guide for details.
Configuration Steps (General):
Ensure devices are powered and connected according to the topology. A DHCP server is required.
Via Omada App:
- Download and install the Omada App.
- Configure the controller (local or remote site).
- Local Management: Connect to the EAP's default SSID, launch the Omada App, go to Local Access, tap '+' to add the controller, and configure it.
- Remote Management: Ensure Cloud Access is enabled on the controller and bound to your TP-Link ID. Log in to the Omada App with your TP-Link ID, go to Cloud Access, and manage your controllers. For Hardware Controllers, ensure the Cloud LED is flashing slowly.
Via Web Browser:
- Open the Omada Controller's web page.
- Software Controller: Launch from your PC or via https://omada.tplinkcloud.com (requires Cloud Access enabled and TP-Link ID binding).
- Hardware Controller: Find its IP address via the router's DHCP client list. Enter the IP address in the browser. Alternatively, use https://omada.tplinkcloud.com (requires Cloud Access enabled and TP-Link ID binding).
- Follow the wizard for quick setup.
- Log in with your created username and password.
- For remote management, use the Omada Cloud Service via the web browser.
