Healthcare professional: Insert sensor (Section A) and attach transmitter (Section B). Complete sections C and D. Review this handout with patient, then give to them to take home. A. Insert Sensor 1 Gather materials: applicator, transmitter, and wipes. 2 Pick sensor site. Avoid bones, muscle, irritated skin, tattoos, areas that get bumped. 3 Clean sensor site with alcohol wipe. 4 Peel off adhesive backings. XXXX 5 Place adhesive on skin. Age 2 and up Age 2-17 6 Fold and break off safety guard. 7 Press button to insert sensor. 8 Discard applicator. (follow local guidelines) Healthcare Professional B. Attach Transmitter 1 Clean transmitter. Only use alcohol wipe. 2 Insert transmitter, tab first, into holder. Tab Slot 3 Click transmitter into place, flush with holder. 4 Rub around patch 3 times. C. Transmitter removal date Return transmitter In person Date Other Time G6 Pro Overview G6 Pro takes your glucose reading every 5 minutes for 10 days. After returning the system, your healthcare professional reviews your glucose history and may adjust your medication, diet, or exercise. Sensor (Measures glucose below skin) What do I do? · Keep your smartphone within 20 ft · Shower and swim as normal · Return to your healthcare professional as instructed What don't I do? · No MRI's · No full-body scanners Transmitter (Saves sensor readings) · No sunscreen or lotions on transmitter · No system parts in mouth, it's a choking hazard · Don't remove transmitter, it'll end your sensor session Continued on reverse Patient Using your G6 Pro Download the Dexcom G6 app After your sensor has been inserted, download the Dexcom G6 app from your app store. Once downloaded, set up app following on-screen instructions. G6 Pro sends G6 Pro sensor glucose readings to your G6 App. App home screen After your healthcare professional inserted your sensor and attached your transmitter, the system starts its warmup. When it's over, you'll get your sensor readings and start to see your glucose trends. The graph's background colors also show where your G6 Pro readings are: · Gray: G6 Pro readings are in your target range · Yellow: G6 Pro readings are above your High Glucose Alert setting · Red: G6 Pro readings are below your Low Glucose Alert setting Current reading High glucose alert level Low glucose alert level 8AM 150 mg/dL 9AM Trend arrow 400 300 200 100 40 Now Trend graph Current reading Can I make treatment decisions with G6 Pro? Yes! Use your G6 Pro for treatment decisions unless: Your readings do not match your symptoms You don't feel right, yet the G6 Pro says your glucose is OK and your trend arrow is straight. No number or no arrow On the home screen: you don't have a number, don't have an arrow, or both. No number, no arrow, no treatment decision. In both cases, use your blood glucose meter for treatment decisions. Be careful! When was my last dose? Avoid taking insulin doses too close together (stacking insulin). Doing so could cause you to go low. Sometimes it's best to watch and wait (at least two hours). Need help? Contact your healthcare professional: For medical issues: · G6 Pro gets loose or removed · Sensor wire breaks off · Irritation at insertion site What's Next? Once your 10-day sensor session ends, follow the instructions below to remove the patch from your body. Return to your healthcare professional (see Section D). Sensor must be returned within 30 days of starting session. 1 Peel the entire patch off like a bandage. 2 Place in bag and seal it.
