Windshield Wipers and Washers
Controls
Windshield wipers and washers operate only when the starter switch is in the first or second position.
Caution: Do not operate the windshield wipers on a dry windshield. Resistance from the wiper mechanism may cause damage.
In very cold or very hot weather, ensure the wiper blades are not frozen or stuck to the windshield before operating them. Resistance from the wiper mechanism may cause damage.
Before operating the wipers, remove snow, ice, and frost from the windshield around the wiper arms and blades. Snow and ice on the windshield can damage the wiper mechanism.
Note: If the wiper blades are stuck or jammed, the electronic automatic circuit breaker may temporarily interrupt the operation of the windshield wipers. In this case, switch off the wipers and ignition. Before restarting the ignition, clear the windshield and free the wiper blades.
Windshield Wipers
Operation by Rain Sensor or Intermittent Mode:
Move the steering column stalk up to position 1.
Normal Speed Operation:
Move the steering column stalk up to position 2.
High Speed Operation:
Move the steering column stalk up to position 3.
Single Wipe:
Move the steering column stalk down to position 4 and release immediately.
Note: When the steering column stalk is held in the lower position, the wipers operate at normal speed until the stalk is released.
Intermittent Mode:
When the steering column stalk is in position 1, rotating the control dial clockwise increases the wiper frequency, and counter-clockwise decreases it.
Vehicle Speed Sensor:
The wiper operating frequency is also automatically adjusted based on vehicle speed. As the vehicle speed increases, the wiper frequency increases accordingly, ensuring optimal visibility. This function is automatic and not adjustable by the driver.
The function of adjusting wiper operation based on speed can be deactivated at a dealer or Land Rover technical center.
Reduced Wiper Frequency:
If the vehicle stops without a rain sensor and the wipers continue to operate, their frequency will automatically decrease. If they were operating at high speed, they switch to normal speed; if they were operating at normal speed, they switch to intermittent mode. Upon starting to move, the original frequency setting is automatically restored.
Rain Sensing Wipers
Operation by Rain Sensor:
If the sensor detects continuous rain, the wipers will operate continuously at normal speed.
Caution: Before entering a car wash, the windshield wipers must be switched off. If the wipers operate due to the rain sensor during a car wash, it may cause damage to the wiper mechanism.
The vehicle is equipped with an optical rain sensor installed inside the windshield, directly in front of the rearview mirror. The rain sensor detects changes in the amount of dirt or water on the exterior of the windshield. When the wiper switch is in the first position, the wiper operating frequency automatically increases or decreases based on the data received from the rain sensor. The sensitivity of the rain sensor can be increased or decreased by adjusting the control dial: clockwise rotation increases sensitivity, counter-clockwise rotation decreases it.
Windshield Washer
Pull the steering column stalk towards the steering wheel (for at least 5 seconds). While the stalk is held in this position, the windshield wipers operate in conjunction with the washers. After releasing the stalk, the wipers will perform three additional cycles.
WARNING: Some windshield washer fluids are flammable. Do not allow washer fluid to come into contact with ignition sources.
Caution: Only use windshield washer fluids approved for automotive use, strictly following the manufacturer's instructions.
This mode can also be activated by pressing the button at the end of the steering column stalk.
Headlight Washers
When the headlights are on and there is sufficient fluid in the washer reservoir, the headlight washers will also operate when the windshield washers are activated.
One cycle of headlight washer operation occurs for every five cycles of windshield washer operation, provided the headlights remain on and 10 minutes have passed since the headlight washers were activated. If the headlights are switched off and then on again, the cycle restarts.
Note: If the windshield washer fluid level sensor detects a low fluid level, the operation of the headlight washers will be blocked.
Washer Jet Heating
If the ambient temperature drops to a level where washer jet icing may occur, the washer jet heating will activate, provided the starter switch is in the second position.
To prevent freezing at low temperatures, use approved windshield washer fluid. See the LUBRICANTS AND OPERATING FLUIDS section on page 401.
Rear Window Wiper and Washer
Washing and Cleaning the Rear Window:
Move the steering column stalk forward to the first position, then forward again and hold, overcoming the spring pressure, for as long as needed to wash the window. During washing, the wipers will automatically activate, and after releasing the stalk, they will perform three additional cycles.
Rear Wiper - Intermittent Mode
Move the steering column stalk forward to the first position – the wiper will operate in intermittent mode until switched off.
Note: If the rear wiper is activated when reverse gear is engaged, it will operate in continuous mode.
Rear Wiper - Adjustable Delay Mode
To set the adjustable delay mode for the rear wiper:
- Move the steering column stalk forward to activate the rear wiper.
- Immediately move the steering column stalk backward and wait for the desired delay period.
- Move the steering column stalk forward again. This sets the delay period according to which the wiper will operate.
