Power Source
How to Connect the Power Source
- Attach the cord clips to the battery: Red clip is positive (+), and the black clip is negative (-).
- Insert the connector into the reel. The display will appear as shown below.
The indication will change as shown below after taking appropriate steps, and the data will be set.
Initial Screen: [Screen shown when the unit is turned ON]
Water Depth Screen: [Screen showing the Water Depth]
WARNING:
- Pay attention to correct polarity. Reverse polarity connection (+/-) will prevent electrical conduction and may damage the battery, main unit, and cord.
- Do not connect the power supply with wet hands (freshwater or seawater). This may result in electric shock. Wear rubber gloves when connecting during rain.
- Incorrect connection may cause a short circuit, leading to power cord breakage. Do not place combustibles or flammables near the power supply, reel, or product to prevent fire.
Attention:
When changing batteries, the display's backup memory remains active for approximately 15 minutes after the old battery is disconnected. The startup sequence does not need to be repeated if the new battery is connected within this timeframe.
About the Power Source
This reel is designed for direct current (DC) 12 to 16.8 V. Do not use any power sources other than those specified (e.g., AC100V household power supply, DC24V on boats).
Boat power supply voltage can be unstable, influenced by onboard generators and wiring, potentially triggering protective circuits causing sudden stops or intermittent operation. For maximum reel performance, use electric reel specific batteries.
WARNING:
- Daiwa does not warrant malfunctions or damages caused by batteries. Daiwa does not recommend batteries not meeting Daiwa's product or safety standards. Use of such batteries with Daiwa products is at your own risk. Pay special attention to lithium batteries due to the risk of serious accidents.
- Using your boat's power supply may damage the boat's supply system. Do not deplete the boat's power capacity while the engine is off, as this may prevent the engine from starting.
- This reel operates on DC 12V to 16.8V. Only the "Marine Power 3000" model operates on 24V. Connecting to a power supply with voltage higher than 24V or to a household power supply will damage the electric reel's electronic circuit, leading to uncontrolled motor operation, smoke, or fire. Always check the power supply environment and specifications.
Attention:
- Do not use power supplies other than the specified ones. Daiwa recommends DEEPCYCLE batteries secured for marine use. Only specified lithium power supplies (in the country of sale) can be used. Contact your nearest DAIWA dealer for details.
- Connecting the unit directly to a household or marine power source may cause damage.
- Recharge the battery before your fishing trip, as batteries naturally discharge over time.
- Confirm the boat provides the proper power source (voltage, connector shape, etc.). Corroded connections can impede electric current flow. Remove any corrosion or dirt from connectors.
- Use a battery of the correct voltage output. Winding with high load at low voltage may damage electronic components.
Battery Level Indicator
When the battery voltage drops while powered ON, the battery level indicator changes as shown below. If the voltage drops to 10V or less, the reel's winding power is restricted, and maximum performance cannot be achieved.
If the indicator blinks while the motor is not running, the battery voltage may be low due to decreased residual capacity. Replace the battery with a recharged one. (If using an onboard power supply, check the voltage and terminal.)
There might be a slight difference between the reel's detected voltage and the actual power supply voltage.
If the counter display goes out due to a depleted battery, do not operate the electric reel manually to wind the line. Replace the battery with a recharged one before any operations. Manual operation in such a condition may cause the water depth counter to malfunction, potentially leading to rod tip breakage if all line is wound accidentally when restarting electrical winding.
Attention: When a low battery indication appears, replace the battery with a fully charged one, as operation with low battery may cause problems with electric winding or IC functions.
Maintenance
About Maintenance
This is a washable reel. Wash away salt residue and grit after fishing.
Maintenance Procedure
- Wash the reel with dishwashing detergent and a soft sponge. Do not use solvents. Recommended detergent quantity: 1.5 ml per liter of water. Using other soaps or solutions may damage the reel externally and internally, potentially affecting the outer coating and internal grease.
- Rinse detergent and dirt away with running water, rinsing the spool thoroughly to remove salt. Use warm water, under 30 degrees Celsius.
- Dry the reel well. Loosen the drag when stored. Ensure water is removed from inside the handle knob.
- Apply oil to the worm shaft. Recommended grease: Genuine reel guard grease (product code: 2380027).
Attention:
- Do not wash with seawater or soak in water.
- Do not use organic solvents such as benzene or thinner.
- Do not use a steel brush or abrasive cleanser.
- The applied oil may spring back; do not look down the worm shaft area.
- Do not apply oil to the water discharge hole.
- Do not place magnetic force near the product's main body.
Handling and Maintenance of the Power Cord
Follow the restrictions below to avoid troubles caused by power cord disconnection or other issues. Always use the specific power cord supplied with the reel unit; it is not compatible with any other power cord.
- Do not modify the power cord. Keep it intact to prevent unintended failures.
- Do not wash the power cord.
- Do not hang the reel by the power cord.
- Do not wind the power cord around the reel body with the connector inserted into the reel.
- Be aware that the inner electric cable may disconnect or break without visible external damage if the power cord is stepped on, pulled strongly when trapped with cargo, or during use.
- Do not place heavy items on the power cord or tie knots in it.
- If any abnormal events occur, including smoke or abnormal odor, stop using the power cord and remove it immediately from the battery.
Maintenance of the Power Cord
Wipe the power cord with a wet cloth and dry it thoroughly. Pay special attention to drying the tips with the cover removed. Grease the connector after it is dried. Recommended grease: SLPW connector grease 501 (Product code: 4386502). The dedicated grease is available at fishing tackle shops.
Disconnect the power cord from the reel before storing. Hold the connector, not the power cord, when pulling the power cord from the reel.
Clean and grease area A (pins) and area B (circumferential area).
Other Maintenance Points:
- This reel is a precision instrument with electric circuitry and a motor. Do not disassemble the reel yourself.
- Cover the power connector on the reel with its protection cap.
- An old cord may cause breakage, short-circuit, or other trouble. It is recommended to replace the cord every two years or every 60 uses to maintain reel performance.
