IC-3PA Power Supply
IC-3PA / IC-3PA1 Status Indicators
The front panel of the IC-3PA power supply features several indicator lights:
- Power: Indicates the unit is powered on.
- Normal: Indicates normal operation.
- Warning: Indicates a warning condition, likely related to the Automatic Protection Circuit (APC).
- Current: Indicates excessive current draw.
- ICOM: Brand indicator.
- Force Supply: Functionality not detailed in provided text.
Operating Instructions
Important Note: Connecting to a voltage higher than the transformer is set voids any warranty applicable to this unit!
- Voltage Setting: Disconnect the unit from AC mains. Remove the five-pin connector from the bottom of the power supply. Rotate the connector to align the indentation with the desired input voltage. Reinsert the connector firmly. Reinsert the fuse and fuse holder into the power supply by threading the cap through the center of the connector and tightening finger tight.
- AC Cord Connection: Unwrap the AC cord and insert it into the voltage outlet matching the transformer setting. Ensure the unit is in the "off" position during this step.
- Power On: Push the power switch to the "On" position. The "Power" indicator light should glow amber. If there is no DC load or a proper DC load, the "Normal" indicator light should glow blue.
- Transceiver Connection: Push the power switch to the "Off" position. Connect the cord from your transceiver to the terminals on the supply. The positive wire connects to the red top terminal, and the ground or negative wire connects to the black bottom terminal.
- Mounting Transceiver: Assemble the mounting bracket. Thread the bracket rod through the unpadded side of one end bracket. Insert the rod's end with the tapped hole through the padded side of the other end bracket, followed by the large chrome washer. Loosely thread the screw into the rod's end. Position the padded sides of the brackets on either side of the supply, about halfway to the front. Place your transceiver on top of the power supply, ensuring it sits evenly within the brackets. Tighten the screw until the transceiver is stable.
- Speaker Connection: Connect one end of the speaker cord to the matching jack on the power supply and the other end to the transceiver.
- Antenna Connection: Attach the antenna to the transceiver.
- Final Power Up: Energize the transceiver to the proper power level and push the IC-3PA power switch to the "On" position.
- Warning Lamp: If the warning lamp illuminates, the built-in Automatic Protection Circuit (APC) is active. Recheck all connections.
- Current Lamp: If the current lamp illuminates, the unit is drawing too much current. Investigate the cause.
Views of the Unit
Front View: Shows the front panel with indicator lights (Power, Normal, Warning, Current), ICOM logo, and power supply designation.
Back View: Displays the "Identification Label" with "POWER SUPPLY IC-3PA", input/output voltage, serial number, and manufacturer information. It also shows the "Plus (+) Terminal".
Inside View (Top Side): Illustrates internal wiring and components, including the AC Power Cord connection.
Inside View (Bottom Side): Shows the AC Cord, Fuse Holder/Voltage Selector, and Speaker jack.
Fuse Box and Accessories
The fuse box area allows for voltage selection and fuse replacement. The process involves removing the fuse holder and voltage selector plug, replacing the plug with the desired voltage display, and inserting the appropriate fuse into the holder before reinserting it.
