Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances, including:

- The machine can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, if they are supervised and instructed properly.
- Supervise children to ensure they do not play with the machine.
- Do not insert fingers or other objects into the coffee grinder.
Warnings:
- This machine is for domestic use only.
- Always place the machine on a flat, stable surface.
- Do not place near hot surfaces, ovens, heaters, or other heat sources.
- Only use roasted coffee beans in the hopper. Do not use ground coffee, instant coffee, green coffee, or other substances, as this can damage the machine.
- Allow the machine to cool before inserting or removing parts.
- Do not fill the tank with hot or boiling water; use only fresh, non-carbonated cold water.
- For cleaning, do not use abrasive products or harsh detergents; a soft, damp cloth is sufficient.
- Regular descaling is required. The machine will indicate when it's necessary. Failure to descale may cause malfunction and void the warranty.
- Avoid exposing the machine to temperatures below 0°C, as residual water can freeze and damage the heating system.
- Do not leave water in the tank for extended periods; it may become contaminated. Use fresh water for each use.
Preliminary Operations
Positioning
For optimal use, place the machine in an area with sufficient space around it.
- Space Requirements: Left: 150 mm, Front: 221 mm, Width: 430 mm, Right: 150 mm, Height: 340 mm.
Unpacking and Placement
Keep the original packaging for future transport. Remove the machine from its packaging. Choose a stable, level surface away from heat sources, in a well-lit, clean area with an accessible power outlet. Ensure adequate space around the machine for operation.
Filling the Water Tank

- Take the tank by the handle.
- Rinse the tank with cold water.
- Important: Do not use hot, boiling, carbonated water, or other liquids that could damage the tank or machine. Use fresh water for each use.
- Fill the tank with fresh cold water up to the MAX level.
- Reinsert the tank and ensure it is properly seated.
Filling the Bean Hopper

- Lift the bean hopper lid.
- Do not overfill the hopper to maintain grind quality.
- Important: Do not pour ground coffee, instant coffee, green coffee, or other substances into the hopper, as this can damage the machine. Only fill with roasted coffee beans. Do not fill with green, caramelized, or flavored beans.
- Gently pour coffee beans into the hopper and replace the lid.
Connection and Start-up

- Connect the power cord plug to the appliance's socket.
- Connect the other end of the power cord to a suitable wall socket.
- Turn the main switch to ON to power on the machine.
- The STAND-BY button will flash. Press the STAND-BY button to turn on the machine.
- The display will indicate that the circuit needs priming; follow instructions in section 5.2 'First Start-up'.
- Note: If the STAND-BY button is pressed for more than 8 seconds, the DEMO MODE will activate. To exit, turn the machine off and on using the main switch.
Activation and Deactivation
Using Selection Buttons
Certain buttons are used for navigating menus:
- OK Button: Selects/confirms/stops a function.
- ESC Button: Returns to the main menu or previous level.
- UP Button: Moves up in menus.
- DOWN Button: Moves down in menus.
First Start-up
Perform the following operations before first use:
- Hydraulic circuit priming.
- Automatic rinse/self-cleaning cycle.
- Manual rinse cycle.
Hydraulic Circuit Priming

- During this process, fresh water flows through the internal circuit, and the machine heats up. This takes a few minutes.
- Ensure the milk frother nozzle is installed.
- Place a container under the milk frother.
- Press the OK button to start the hydraulic circuit priming cycle. Hot water will be dispensed through the milk frother. The display shows the progress. The machine automatically stops dispensing water. The display indicates heating. After heating, the machine performs an automatic rinse/self-cleaning cycle of the internal circuits.
Automatic Rinse/Self-Cleaning Cycle

- Place a container under the coffee dispenser spout.
- Risk of burns! Be cautious of hot water or steam splashes.
- The operation takes less than a minute. Wait for the cycle to complete automatically.
- If necessary, the cycle can be interrupted by pressing the OK button.
- Empty the container. The machine returns to the main menu.
- You can now start the manual rinse cycle.
Manual Rinse Cycle
The manual rinse cycle consists of two phases:
- A 'Coffee dispensing circuit rinse phase' (repeat twice).
- A 'Hot water dispensing circuit rinse phase'.
Coffee Dispensing Circuit Rinse Phase
- During this phase, the coffee dispensing cycle starts.
- Place a container under the coffee dispenser spout.
- Press the ESPRESSO LUNGO button. The machine will dispense coffee.
- Repeat the previous operations, then continue.
- After dispensing, empty the container.
- ✔️ If necessary, the cycle can be interrupted by pressing the OK button.
Hot Water Dispensing Circuit Rinse Phase
- Follow instructions in section 4.2 'Filling the Water Tank' and fill the tank up to the 'CALC CLEAN' level.
Settings
Measuring and Setting Water Hardness
Water hardness measurement is important for:
- Determining the descaling frequency.
- Correctly using the INTENZA+ water filter. Refer to section 10.2 'INTENZA+ Water Filter'.

- Remove the strip and wait for 1 minute.
- Count the number of red squares that change color and consult the table below.

Setting Aroma Intensity
Each press of the AROMA STRENGTH button changes the coffee aroma by one level. The selected aroma is shown on the display.

- 00: Extra strong aroma
- Coffee pre-ground: The machine will automatically dose the correct amount of coffee.
- Pre-ground coffee: The correct amount of coffee is dosed using the provided scoop.
Setting the Ceramic Coffee Grinder
Important: Adjustments should only be made while the machine is grinding beans.
- Lift the bean hopper lid.
- Locate the grind adjustment knob. The reference marks around the knob indicate the grind settings. You can adjust the grind from coarse (lighter taste, minimum setting, left) to fine (stronger taste, maximum setting, right).
- Place a small cup under the coffee dispenser spout.
- Press the ESPRESSO button.
- While the machine is grinding, press and turn the knob one notch at a time using the grinder adjustment key. The taste difference will be noticeable after 2-3 cups.
Usage
Adjusting Coffee Length
The dispensed coffee quantity can be adjusted to your preference and cup size. This function allows you to change the default setting.
- To adjust the espresso length, press and hold the ESPRESSO button until the MEMO symbol appears, then release.
- To adjust the lungo length, press and hold the ESPRESSO LUNGO button until the MEMO symbol appears, then release.
- The machine starts dispensing the selected product. Press the OK button when the desired quantity is reached.
- The button is now programmed. Each press will dispense the set quantity. After dispensing, the machine returns to the main menu.
Milk Frother
This section explains how to use the milk frother to prepare emulsified milk. For first-time use, clean it as described in section 7.4.1 'Milk Frother Cleaning Cycle'.
- Risk of burns! Hot water or steam splashes may occur. The milk frother can become very hot. Do not touch it directly. Use the protective handle.
Hydraulic Circuit Cleaning
- Ensure the milk frother nozzle is installed.
- Press the STEAM button to dispense steam for a few seconds.
- Press the OK button to stop dispensing.
Coffee and Milk Preparations
Milk-Based Product Dispensing
To prepare a good cappuccino, use cold milk (approx. 5°C/41°F) with at least 3% protein. You can use whole, skimmed, soy, or lactose-free milk.
- Fill the tank with cold milk to 1/3.
- Immerse the milk frother in the milk.
- Risk of burns! Splashes of milk or steam may occur.
- Ensure the milk frother is installed correctly.
Emulsifying Milk
- Press the STEAM button to start steam dispensing. Wait for the machine to preheat.
- Emulsify the milk by moving the container in circular motions upwards and downwards.
- When the milk reaches the desired consistency, press the OK button to stop steam. The machine will stop dispensing steam completely after 3 minutes if no button is pressed.
- You can immediately proceed to dispensing coffee or hot water.
- To prepare a cappuccino, dispense an espresso or lungo as described in section 6.1 'Coffee-Based Preparations'.
- After use, dispense a small amount of hot water into a container as described in section 7.4.1 'Milk Frother Cleaning Cycle'.
Hot Water Preparations
Hot Water Dispensing

- Ensure the milk frother nozzle is installed.
- Place a container under the milk frother.
- Risk of burns! Splashes of hot water or steam may occur. The steam nozzle can get very hot. Do not touch it directly. Use the protective handle.
- Press the HOT WATER button to dispense hot water. Wait for the machine to preheat. The machine will start dispensing hot water.
- Dispense the desired amount of hot water.
- ✔️ Press the OK button to stop dispensing. The machine returns to the main menu after dispensing.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for prolonging the machine's lifespan. Failure to do so may cause malfunction.
Important: Always read section 3 'Safety' before cleaning.
All cleaning operations must be performed when the machine has cooled down. Use a soft, slightly damp cloth for cleaning. Do not use alcohol, solvents, or abrasive objects. Only the drip tray grid and milk frother components mentioned in section 7.4.2 'Weekly Cleaning of Milk Frother Components' can be washed in a dishwasher. All other components should be washed in lukewarm water.
Machine Cleaning
Cleaning the Machine as Needed

- When the 'marc drawer full' indicator appears, proceed as follows:
- Risk of burns! Before cleaning, ensure the machine, marc, and water in the tank have cooled down.
- Important: These procedures should be performed whenever the 'drip tray full' indicator lights up. If the tray is completely full, be careful when removing it.
- If the machine is on, empty and clean the marc drawer and drip tray.
- If the machine is off, the 'marc drawer full' indicator will still appear on startup. Refer to section 9.4 'Troubleshooting Table'.
- Press the side buttons.
- Remove the drip tray.
- Remove the marc drawer and empty it.
- Empty and wash the drip tray.
- Place the marc drawer into the drip tray and reinsert it into the machine.
- Further maintenance operations can only be performed when the machine is off and unplugged.
Weekly Machine Cleaning
- Follow the instructions in section 7.1.1 'Cleaning the Machine as Needed' up to the drip tray housing. Clean the drip tray housing now.
- Reassemble the components.
Brew Group Cleaning
Weekly Brew Group Cleaning Cycle
The brew group must be washed at least once a week. This involves a water cleaning cycle (thorough rinse).
Disassembly and Cleaning

- Turn off the machine using the STAND-BY button. Wait for the STAND-BY button to flash and unplug the power cord.
- Press the side buttons.
- Remove the drip tray.
- Open the service door.
- To remove the brew group:
- Place your thumb on the PUSH button and your other fingers on the handle.
- Press the PUSH button and pull the handle.
- Slide the brew group out horizontally without rotating it.
- Thoroughly clean the coffee outlet with the adapted cleaning tool provided.
- Remove the coffee drawer and wash it thoroughly.
- Wash the brew group thoroughly with lukewarm water and clean the top filter.
- Do not use detergents or soap to clean the brew group.
- Allow the brew group to air dry completely.
- Carefully clean the inside of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.
Reassembly

- Insert the coffee drawer into its housing and ensure it is correctly positioned.
- Important: If the coffee drawer is not correctly positioned, you may not be able to insert the brew group.
- Ensure the brew group is in the correct position: the two reference marks on the side of the brew group should align. If they don't, press the lever down slightly until it touches the brew group base so the marks align.
- Press firmly on the PUSH button.
- Ensure the brew group is securely fixed in position. If it's too low, lift it until it clicks into place.
- Reinsert the brew group into its housing until it clicks in without pressing the PUSH button.
- Reinsert the marc drawer and drip tray into the machine and close the service door.
Monthly Brew Group Lubrication (Cleaning Cycle with Lubricant)
Lubricate the brew group approximately every 500 cups or at least once a month. Lubricant grease for the brew group can be purchased separately. Refer to section 10.1 'Maintenance Products' for details. Perform the 'Disassembly and Cleaning' procedure from section 7.2.1 'Weekly Brew Group Cleaning Cycle'.
- Apply grease uniformly on the two lateral conveyors.
- Lubricate the shaft as well.
- Perform the 'Reassembly' procedure from section 7.2.1 'Weekly Brew Group Cleaning Cycle'.
Monthly Brew Group Degreasing (Cleaning Cycle with Degreaser)
Run a cleaning cycle with degreasing tablets approximately every 500 cups or at least once a month. This completes the brew group maintenance. Degreasing tablets are sold separately. Refer to section 10.1 'Maintenance Products' for details. The descaling cycle is described in section 7.5 'Descaling Cycle'.
- Place a large container (1.5L) under the dispenser spout.
- Risk of burns! Be cautious of hot water or steam splashes.
- Ensure the water tank is filled to the MAX level.
- Do not put pre-ground coffee in the pre-ground coffee compartment.
- Place a degreasing tablet in the pre-ground coffee compartment.
- Select the pre-ground coffee dispensing function by pressing the AROMA STRENGTH button. The machine is ready for dispensing.
- Press the ESPRESSO LUNGO button. The machine will dispense water through the coffee dispenser spout.
- When the progress bar reaches the middle, turn the main switch to OFF to turn off the machine.
- Let the degreasing solution act for about 15 minutes.
- Turn the main switch to ON to turn on the machine.
- Press the STAND-BY button. Wait for the 5.2.2 'Automatic Rinse/Self-Cleaning Cycle' to finish.
- Perform a full '7.2.1 Weekly Brew Group Cleaning Cycle'. The machine is ready for dispensing.
Container Cleaning
Water Tank Cleaning
- Remove the water filter from the tank and wash it with fresh water.
- Reinsert the water filter into the tank, pressing gently and rotating slightly.
- Fill the tank with fresh water.
Monthly Cleaning of Coffee Hoppers
- Once a month, empty and clean the bean hopper with a damp cloth. Refill with coffee beans.
- If necessary, clean the pre-ground coffee compartment with a dry cloth.
Milk Frother Cleaning
Milk Frother Cleaning Cycle
It is important to clean the milk frother after each use to ensure hygiene and perfect milk emulsion.
- The milk frother must be installed.
- Press the STEAM button to dispense steam for a few seconds.
- Press the OK button to stop dispensing.
- Risk of burns! The steam nozzle and milk frother can be hot.
- Remove the milk frother and wash it in lukewarm water.
Weekly Cleaning of Milk Frother Components
Weekly cleaning is more thorough.
- Milk frother
- Rubber protector
- Risk of burns! If the machine was recently used, the steam nozzle and milk frother may still be hot.
- Remove the milk frother (1) and wash it in lukewarm water.
- Remove the rubber protector (2) and wash it with fresh water.
- Clean the steam nozzle with a damp cloth.
- Perform operations in reverse order and reassemble the milk frother.
- Important: The rubber protector must be correctly inserted onto the steam nozzle and not protrude, otherwise the milk frother will not function correctly.
Descaling Cycle

When the CALC CLEAN symbol appears, the machine needs descaling. Failure to do so will cause malfunction and void the warranty.
The descaling cycle takes approximately 30 minutes. It involves a complete cleaning cycle with a Gaggia descaling product, followed by a rinse cycle.
- Do not remove the brew group during descaling.
- Do not drink the descaling solution or the rinse water.
- Important: Use only Gaggia descaling solution. Other products may damage the machine and leave residues. Gaggia descaling solution is sold separately. Refer to section 10.1 'Maintenance Products' for details.
Preparation Phase
- Press the side buttons.
- Remove the drip tray.
- Remove the marc drawer and empty it.
- Empty and wash the drip tray.
- Reassemble all components.
- Place a large container (1.5L) under the dispenser spout.
- If the milk frother is installed, remove it from the steam nozzle.
Descaling Phase
- Important: If the INTENZA+ water filter is installed, remove it from the water tank and replace it with the small original white filter.
- Pour the entire descaling solution into the water tank.
- Fill the tank with fresh water up to the CALC CLEAN level.
- Reinsert the water tank into the machine.
- Press the MENU button and scroll to the 'Descaling' function.
- Press the OK button to select the function.
- Press the OK button to start the descaling cycle. The machine will dispense the descaling solution intermittently. The progress bar indicates the cycle's status.
- The cycle can be interrupted by pressing ESC and restarted by pressing OK. This allows emptying the container or taking a break.
- Let the water flow until the tank is empty.
- Remove the water tank, rinse it, fill it with fresh water up to the MAX level, and reinsert it.
- Empty and clean the container.
- Repeat the 'Preparation Phase' operations and proceed to the 'Rinsing Phase'.
Rinsing Phase
- Press the OK button to start the rinsing cycle.
- The cycle can be interrupted by pressing ESC and restarted by pressing OK.
- Important: If the water tank was not filled to the MAX level, another rinse cycle may be needed. Refill the tank to MAX, reinsert it, and repeat the 'Rinsing Phase'.
- Let the machine dispense the product automatically until the process is complete.
- Press the OK button to exit the descaling cycle. The machine performs automatic heating and rinsing.
- Empty and clean the container with the dispensed water.
- Proceed with section 7.4.2 'Weekly Cleaning of Milk Frother Components'.
- Proceed with section 7.2.1 'Weekly Brew Group Cleaning Cycle'.
- Important: If provided, remove the small white filter and replace it with the INTENZA+ filter.
- The machine returns to the main menu.
- Reinstall the milk frother on the steam nozzle.
- It is recommended to perform a '5.2.3 Manual Rinse Cycle'.
Interrupting the Descaling Cycle
Once the descaling cycle has started, it must be completed without turning off the machine.
- If you get stuck during the cycle, you can exit by pressing the STAND-BY button.
- If this happens, or in case of power failure or accidental disconnection, empty and rinse the water tank thoroughly, then refill it to the CALC CLEAN level. Follow the instructions in section 5.2.3 'Manual Rinse Cycle' before dispensing any product. If the cycle was not completed, perform another descaling cycle as soon as possible.
Default Settings
List of Default Settings
The machine comes with default dispensing settings. To improve coffee quality and taste, it is recommended to adjust these settings. For a stronger taste, adjust the infusion temperature, aroma, and grind fineness to the highest level.

Changing Default Settings
You can personalize the machine's functions using the programming menu. The machine must be on and ready.
- Refer to section 8.1 'List of Default Settings'.
- Press the MENU button and scroll through the functions to select the one you want to modify.
- Note: The side figures refer to an example function.
- ✔️ Press the OK button to select the desired function.
- Once selected:
- Press the UP button to increase the value.
- Press the DOWN button to decrease the value.
- Press the OK button to confirm the change. The message 'OK' will appear when the change is saved.
- Important: Unconfirmed modifications are not saved.
- Press the ESC button to exit the programming function.
- The machine automatically exits programming mode after 3 minutes of inactivity.
Resetting Default Settings
You can restore default settings using the programming menu. The machine must be on and ready.
- Press the MENU button and scroll through the functions to select 'RESET'.
- Press the OK button to select the function.
- The message 'OK' will appear when the change is saved.
- Press the ESC button to exit the programming function.
- The machine automatically exits programming mode after 3 minutes of inactivity.

INTENZA+ Water Filter
It is recommended to install the INTENZA+ water filter to limit limescale buildup and improve coffee aroma. Filtered water is essential for good coffee.
Installing INTENZA+

- Remove the small white filter from the water tank and store it in a dry place.
Filter Setting Phase
- Remove the INTENZA+ water filter from its packaging. Immerse it vertically in cold water, opening upwards, and gently press the sides to release air.
- Important: To use the filter correctly, measure water hardness as per section 5.3.1 'Measuring and Setting Water Hardness'.
- Set the INTENZA+ filter based on the test results using the following table:

- Insert the INTENZA+ filter into the empty water tank. Push it in fully.
- Fill the tank with fresh water and reinsert it into the machine.

- Refill the water tank again.
Machine Setting Phase During Installation
- Press the MENU button and scroll to the 'INTENZA+ filter' function. The default setting is OFF (filter inactive).
- Press the UP button to select ON.
- Press the OK button to confirm the change. Modifications not confirmed are not saved.
- With the ON value, the machine is programmed to notify the user when the INTENZA+ filter needs replacement. No icon is displayed for filter activation.
- Press the ESC button to exit programming. The machine exits programming mode automatically after 3 minutes of inactivity.
Replacing INTENZA+
The 'INTENZA+ water filter needs replacing' indicator will light up. Replace the INTENZA+ water filter as per section 10.2.1 'Installing INTENZA+', performing only the 'Filter Setting Phase', then proceed as follows:
Machine Setting Phase During Replacement
- Press the MENU button and scroll to the 'INTENZA+ filter' function. The value is ON (filter active).
- If you wish to replace the INTENZA+ filter with a new one, press the DOWN button until you can select 'RESET'. If you wish to remove the INTENZA+ filter without replacing it, select OFF.
- Press the OK button to confirm the change. Modifications not confirmed are not saved.
- By selecting RESET, the machine is programmed for a new INTENZA+ filter. If you select OFF, use the supplied white filter in the tank.
- Press the ESC button to exit programming. The machine exits programming mode automatically after 3 minutes of inactivity.
