Bosch CTP3NA Telematic Control Unit
Technical Description and Installers Manual
Model: CTP3NA
Device Description
The Common Telematics Platform 3rd Generation (CTP3) is a telematic unit designed to provide fleet management services and remote diagnostics. It also facilitates remote measurement and serves as an AP-Server for Internet via Wireless LAN.
The CTP3NA is intended to support the OEM's new E-Architecture in various countries. It is available in a Non-DIN Variant, with an optional DIN-Interface for driver identification via Smart Card. The device is planned for introduction in various trucks from the OEM.
There are "BASE" and "EXT" variants. The CTP3NA "EXT" is used for vehicles with the new architecture, while the CTP3NA "BASE" is used for vehicles with the legacy architecture. The "BASE" variant differs from the "EXT" by lacking Ethernet ports and connectors.

Safety and Warning Notes
This section contains important safety and warning notes for handling and operating the device.
WARNING: Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION: Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE: Used to address practices not related to physical injury.
WARNING:
- The product is rated for 12/24 volts. Short circuits must be prevented.
- For vehicles with higher voltages (e.g., 24/48V in hybrid vehicles, 400/800V in electric vehicles), take additional safety precautions such as extra insulation and edge protectors.
- Moving pictures/movies/videos must not be visible to the driver during driving. Co-driver monitor/display visibility must be disabled.
- The product emits invisible infrared radiation that may cause damage to human eye and skin. Customers must perform a risk assessment and instruct personnel and end-users accordingly.
CAUTION:
- The product is intended for installation and operation in vehicles with a rated voltage of 12/24 volts. Factory settings may need adaptation for specific countries.
- Only use appropriate connecting cables and external devices with proper current carrying capability, EMC shielding, and flammability verification. Modifications without Bosch's agreement may void compliance with standards.
- Bosch is not responsible for damage resulting from incorrect indicators/displays due to improper connection or erroneous signals.
NOTICE:
- Avoid condensation formation on the device. Allow up to two hours for acclimatization if condensation occurs.
- Do not cover ventilation openings and heat sinks to prevent overheating and malfunction.
- Do not insert foreign bodies into the device's slots or openings to prevent injury or damage.
- Keep the device away from hot or burning objects (e.g., cigarettes).
- To clean the device, use a soft cloth moistened with tepid water. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, sharp objects, or spray liquids directly onto the device. Ensure no liquid enters the device, especially the display. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth afterwards.
- When cleaning before installation, ensure openings (especially connector contact points) are sealed to prevent liquid entry.
- Media compatibility tests (e.g., gasoline wetting) do not permit the use of unauthorized cleaning agents.
- The camera window must not be covered or obstructed to ensure proper function of the Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning system.
- Ensure Bluetooth/WiFi functionality is configured according to target market specific regulations, including frequency bands.
- Ensure GNSS functionalities are configured according to target market regulations (e.g., licensing for GLONASS in US/RUS, positioning information encryption in China).
Operating Modes and Wireless Characteristics
The device operates with three antennas, one of which is a cellular RX diversity antenna. Bluetooth and Wireless LAN can operate together. Cellular always uses a diversity RX antenna. Wireless LAN can operate in MIMO or SISO modes, while Bluetooth is always SISO.
The CTP3NA integrates a pre-certified Bluetooth and Wireless LAN combined module (LGIT ATC6NPL002C) and a pre-certified cellular radio module (WNC-UMC-MT2731CBN).
Bluetooth
- Operates in the 2.4 GHz band (2402 ~ 2480MHz).
- Supports BDR and EDR.
- Operates in Classic and Low Energy modes.
- Bluetooth Class 2, version 5.2.
- Maximum Output power: <4 dBm EIRP.
Wireless LAN
The device can connect to external Access Points in Station mode and can also operate as an Access Point.
- Used WLAN Modes:
- Station Mode (STA): Device connects to external AP on DFS Channels.
- Access Point Mode (AP): DFS channels are not used.
Installation
Assembly
The CTP devices are air-cooled. Ensure adequate heat exchange with the environment. The "sleeping" mode involves either complete disconnection from power supply or the co-processor running while the main processor is powered down.
Operating safety is ensured only under permissible conditions. Ensure correct voltage supply and grounding. Prevent loudspeaker cables from contacting ground (earth or negative battery terminal). Observe the correct connection/disconnection sequence for the vehicle's electrical system. Do not knock the unit during installation; avoid applying pressure to the screen area. Press the four corners of the bezel to slide the unit into place.
Permitted Use
The CTP3NA must be used within the conditions (environment, application, installation, loads) described in this TCD and agreed-upon documents. Only use appropriate cables and external devices regarding safety, EMC compatibility, and shielding grade (refer to section "4.5 Aerials"). Modifications without Bosch's agreement may void compliance with applicable standards.
Improper Use
Any use outside the permitted conditions is considered improper use. Bosch is not liable for damage caused by improper use. Examples of foreseeable misuse include:
- Using Digital I/Os and RS-232 to control functions inconsistent with the CTP3NA's "QM" rating.
- Failure to implement measures ensuring the audio mute function does not suppress safety-relevant messages.
- Using GPS antenna splitters that do not contain diodes to prevent current flow between connected devices.
- Using in vehicles with 24V power without central load dump suppression.
- Using outside the approved operational characteristics without customer-specific approvals.
- Modification of factory settings by unauthorized persons.
- Use of add-on components.
- Use in watercraft, aircraft, spacecraft, and in aggressive atmospheres.
Bosch must be notified of any environmental changes deviating from the TCD. Such use requires prior approval from Bosch.
Incorrect device connection may lead to full operating current draw even when switched off, potentially causing battery depletion. No liability is assumed for resulting damage.
