HANDHELD DOUBLE FLARING TOOL

Preparation

  1. End of tubing must be cut square. If needed, use a file to square up the end of the tubing after it's been cut. (Use Performance Tool part number W700C or W702C.)
  2. Deburr inside of tubing and chamfer the outside. The inside of the tubing should have no internal edge or lip. Chamfer the outside. (Use Performance Tool part number W2961.)
  3. Add a touch of lubricant on the end of the tubing, like brake fluid if flaring a brake line.

Instructions

The tool is a handheld device with a handle. It features an alignment block, an alignment plate, and adapters that attach to a compression screw. The diagram shows the components numbered for identification:

  1. Loosen and remove the Compression screw (#6) and OP1 adapter (#5).
  2. Loosen the 12 mm Hex Bolts (#2) that hold the Alignment Block (#1) together.
  3. Loosen the 8 mm Hex Bolts (#4) that hold the alignment plate (#3) and rotate it up just enough so the tubing hole in the alignment block is half covered. Tighten one 8 mm bolt to keep the plate tight and flush against the alignment block.
  4. Push the tubing into the alignment block until it hits the plate.
  5. Tighten both 12 mm hex bolts (#2). Ensure they are tight.
  6. Slide the alignment plate back into place and tighten the two 8 mm hex bolts (#4) securely.
  7. Thread the combined double flare adapter (#5) and compression screw (#6) back into the alignment plate and tighten securely. This creates the first part of the double flare. Remove when finished.
  8. Remove the 45° Adapter (#7) from the bottom of the handle.
  9. Remove the double flare adapter (#5) from the compression screw (#6). It slides apart with a snap; look for the cut-out in the compression screw. Replace the double flare adapter (#5) with the 45° adapter (#7) and snap it into place.
  10. Thread the combined 45° adapter (#7) and compression screw (#6) back into the alignment plate and tighten securely. This completes the double flare. Remove when finished.

Cleaning & Storage

  1. Wipe down with a clean dry cloth.
  2. Apply a light oil to the threads and store in a dry place, out of the weather.
