Before You Start
A. Is this product compatible with the vehicle?
Consult Appendix A (Known Incompatible Vehicles) and Appendix E (Identification and Connection Chart) on pages 5-7. For the most up-to-date compatibility information, visit www.pac-audio.com.
B. Is this product compatible with the head unit?
Ensure your new head unit can be operated with a remote control and responds to the provided remote. The head unit must accept a remote control with a common carrier frequency range of 38-40Khz. Refer to Appendix B (Known Incompatible Aftermarket Head Units) on page 5 for units that may not work.
C. Prepare for the installation.
Install the SWI-X concurrently with the new head unit. You may need to connect the factory stereo temporarily to identify wires, so avoid completing the head unit installation until the SWI-X is functioning correctly. Plan a suitable location for the SWI-X LED and control body. Note that the supplied wire harness is two feet long, and the IR harness is four feet long. Use a multimeter or approved device for checking vehicle circuits.
Wiring Connections
Step 1: Connect the BLACK wire to ground (-).
Verification: The wire or location should register a constant (-) when probed.
Step 2: Connect the RED wire to switched +12V.
Verification: The wire should register +12V when the ignition key is turned to the ACC or ON positions.
Step 3: Connect the appropriate interface wire (WHITE, YELLOW, ORANGE, or GREEN).
Refer to Appendix E (Identification and Connection Chart) on pages 6-7. Locate your vehicle and identify the SWC wire color in the "Interface Wire Color" column. Note the vehicle wire color and location in the "Identification" column. Only one of these wires should be connected; cut and insulate any unused wires.
Step 4: Perform additional connections as indicated by notes in Appendix E.
- 4a (BLUE wire): Connect ONLY for GM passenger vehicles (excluding trucks or SUVs) that have airbags AND steering wheel heater controls. For all other vehicles, cut and insulate the BLUE wire.
- 4b (BROWN wire): If necessary, cut the BROWN wire loop and insulate both halves.
- 4c (VIOLET wire): If necessary, cut the VIOLET wire loop and insulate both halves, or install an in-line resistor as directed.

Appendix F: Troubleshooting Guide
This guide addresses common issues encountered during installation and programming:
- No power / won't go into programming mode: Check red wire connection, fuse, and ensure vehicle ignition is on.
- Won't program radio commands: Verify version number and IR Extended mode setting are programmed correctly. Ensure the right LED flashes the programmed version number when power is applied.
- Steering wheel controls won't operate new head unit: Confirm correct version and IR Extended mode settings. Follow programming instructions precisely, noting time sequences and exceptions. Ensure the INTERFACE emitter is within range of the new head unit.
- Replacing a broken IR emitter: Use a standard IR emitter (e.g., Radio Shack 276-143), connecting the long lead to the INTERFACE's red wire and the short lead to the black wire.
- Interface controls stereo immediately: During programming, press steering wheel buttons firmly until the left LED turns off. Releasing too early can cause unintended signals.
- Right LED turns off and goes to Left LED without button press: Turn off fluorescent lights and avoid direct sunlight on the IR LED during programming.
- Interface controls radio when steering wheel is turned (late 80's/early 90's Honda/Acura): Program the INTERFACE for version #11.
- Slow or single-step volume/track changes: Try programming the interface for 'Extended IR Mode'. Some stereos may have limited response.
- GM vehicles: Left LED turns off and goes to Right LED during programming: If the SWC wire is cut in half, do not cut the brown loop wire on the interface.
