2. MAIN INTERFACE DESCRIPTION
The main interface provides real-time monitoring and control of the ventilator.
Display Overview
The screen displays a pressure-time waveform, real-time parameter values, and mode/setting information.
Key interface elements and their functions:
| Parameter/Icon | Description |
|---|---|
| ? Alarm Set | Set alarm items, lower alarm limit, and upper alarm limit. |
| ? Mute | Activates mute for alarms. The mute state lasts for 2 minutes and can be cancelled by pressing the icon again. |
| ⚙️ Self-check | Initiates the device's self-check sequence. |
| ☰ Menu | Accesses the main menu with sub-items: parameter list, data record, alarm record, Settings, date and time, and manufacturer maintenance. |
| Battery Status | Displays the current battery level. |
| USB Interface Indicator | Displayed only when an external device is connected to the USB interface. |
| Date and Time | Displays the current date and time, configurable in Settings. |
Ventilation Parameters and Modes
The interface shows critical ventilation parameters and allows selection of operating modes.
| Parameter/Icon | Description |
|---|---|
| Pressure-time diagram | Visual representation of airway pressure over time during the ventilation cycle. |
| Real-time parameter display | Shows current values for PEAK airway pressure, PEEP, Tidal Volume (VT), Minute Ventilation (MV), and Respiratory Rate (RR). |
| Mode (VCV, PCV, APNEA) | Displays the current ventilation mode. Click to switch between VCV (Volume Control Mode), PCV (Pressure Control Mode), and APNEA mode. |
| Weight kg | The currently set animal weight. The system uses this to suggest recommended parameters. |
| Tidal volume (VT) | Displayed in VCV and APNEA modes. Represents the volume of air inhaled by the animal per breath. |
| RR (Respiratory Rate) | Respiratory rate per minute. |
| PEAK (Peak Airway Pressure) | The target pressure in the inspiratory phase or the peak airway pressure during mechanical ventilation in PCV mode. |
| I:E (Inspiratory:Expiratory Ratio) | The ratio of inspiratory time to expiratory time during mechanical ventilation. |
| P-Trig (Pressure Trigger) | In VCV/PCV modes: triggers the next inspiratory phase when airway pressure reaches the set trigger pressure. In APNEA modes: used to identify spontaneous or mechanical ventilation. |
| MV (Minute Ventilation) | Total volume of air ventilated per minute. |
| PEEP (Positive End-Expiratory Pressure) | A positive pressure maintained in the airway at the end of expiration during mechanical ventilation. |
| APNEA Time | If the animal does not breathe or breathes weakly during this time, APNEA ventilation is initiated. |
3. OPERATING PROCEDURES
3.1 Preparation before use
- Check that the anesthesia machine is functioning correctly, connected to a stable oxygen source, and has sufficient anesthetic agent and soda lime.
- Ensure the anesthesia machine is set to the rebreathing circuit and the APL valve is closed.
- Connect the ventilator to the anesthesia machine: Attach one end of the threaded tube to the anesthesia machine's breathing bag port and the other end to the 22 mm port on the ventilator.
- Connect the ventilator to the exhaust gas filter: Attach one end of the bellows to the ventilator's EXHAUST port and the other to the exhaust gas filter.
- Connect the ventilator to the power cord. While the device has a built-in battery, using external power is recommended for continuous operation. Check battery level and recharge as needed.
- Assess bellows replacement: For animals weighing approximately 20 kg, consider replacing the bellows with a 1,500 mL capacity. Estimate if the tidal volume needs to exceed 300 mL.
Replacing the bellows: Rotate the bellows cover counterclockwise to remove it. Take off the black folding pouch, fit the replacement pouch onto the ring, straighten its ripples, and turn the bellows cover clockwise until it snaps into place, ensuring the scale-marked side faces forward.
3.2 Power-on and Self-test
Press and hold the power button for 1 second to turn on the device and initiate the self-test program. Follow on-screen prompts and click [Start Self-Test]. If the self-test passes, a confirmation message will appear, and the system will automatically proceed to the home page in 3 seconds, ready for connection to the animal. If the self-test fails, refer to the user manual for troubleshooting.
Self-test steps typically involve:
- Adjusting the flowmeter to 0.
- Using the circulation circuit and closing the APL valve.
- Sealing the animal port of the circuit.
- Connecting the threaded pipe to the breathing bag port of the circuit.
- Pressing the O2 flush button to fill the bellows completely.
After successful self-test, the system displays a "Home" screen, and a "Start" button is available.
3.3 Initiating mechanical ventilation
- Enter weight: Select the "Weight" parameter on the screen and enter the animal's ideal weight using the shuttle knob. The ventilator will suggest appropriate respiratory parameters for healthy animals (dogs and cats).
- Select breathing mode: Choose between "VCV" (Volume Control Mode), "PCV" (Pressure Control Mode), or "APNEA" mode by tapping the screen or using the shuttle knob.
- VCV: Tidal volume (VT) is the reference. Inspiration ends when the set VT is delivered.
- PCV: Peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) is the reference. Inspiration ends when the set PIP is reached. Tidal volume may vary.
- APNEA: Based on VCV, it adds start/stop control for when the animal breathes spontaneously.
- Adjust breathing parameters: For specific cases (young, elderly, respiratory diseases, non-mammals), adjust parameters based on intelligent suggestions or manual input.
- Anesthesia and Intubation: Select an appropriately sized tracheal cannula. After intubation, inflate the cuff to ensure a seal and prevent air leakage.
- Connect to breathing circuit: Set the anesthesia machine's oxygen flow meter to above 0.5 L/min and adjust anesthetic gas concentration as needed.
- Start ventilation: Once the animal has reached the desired anesthesia level and spontaneous breathing is weak, click "Start ventilation" on the screen.
- Intraoperative monitoring: Observe the airway pressure curve and real-time breathing parameters displayed on the screen to monitor the animal's condition.
- Detaching the animal: During suturing, reduce anesthetic gas, turn off the vaporizer, lower respiratory rate, and set pressure adjustment to "-1" (PEEP off) to encourage spontaneous breathing. If irregular pressure or significant spontaneous breathing occurs, mechanical ventilation may need to be maintained temporarily.
- Device reset: After detaching the animal, close the breathing circuit. Long-press the quick oxygenation button on the anesthesia machine for 20-30 seconds to clear residual gas. Turn off the anesthesia machine's flow meter. If the ventilator is not used for immediate subsequent surgery, open the APL valve and reconnect tubing.
4. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
4.1 Cleaning the product
Always disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning. Reconnect only after all parts are completely dry.
- Ventilator surface: Wipe with a damp cloth soaked in a weak alkaline cleaner (pH 7.0-10.5, e.g., soapy water). For disinfection, irradiate the surface under a 30 W UV lamp at 1 meter distance for no more than 60 minutes.
- Folding pouch: Clean with water only and dry completely before reinstallation.
- Tubing: Wipe ventilator tubing with a cloth soaked in clean water after removal.
4.2 Battery performance maintenance
To maintain battery life, it is recommended to service the battery every 3 months:
- Remove the device and let it rest for at least 2 hours at room temperature (5°C - 30°C).
- Connect to external power and recharge the battery for 5 - 7 hours.
- Reposition the device.
4.3 Consumable replacement cycle
Turbo air filter: Replace the turbine filter annually. Check and clean the primary effect cotton every three months.
