Instructions for Use

Thank you for purchasing this SHOEI product. For your enjoyment and correct use of the product, we suggest that you read these instructions fully.

Ventilation System

The ventilation system is designed to provide comfortable conditions inside the helmet shell. Airflow from the upper and lower air intakes helps maintain comfort. The lower air intake also helps reduce condensation on the shield.

The two intakes (upper and lower) are opened and closed by moving the central button up or down.

Diagram Description: The diagram shows a helmet with numbered components related to the ventilation system. Arrows indicate airflow. The system includes:

Operation:

The diagrams show two sets of intakes: the upper air intake and the lower air intake, each with an 'Open' and 'Close' state.

Part Replacement Procedures

How to Replace Upper Air Intake

Removing Upper Air Intake:

  1. Move a shutter to a half open position.
  2. Insert a slotted screwdriver wrapped by cloth into a gap between a shutter and a base as per drawing. Then, lift the screwdriver and remove the shutter. (Caution: Take care not to damage painting.)
  3. Loosen 3 screws and remove the base.

Fixing Upper Air Intake:

  1. Remove any fragment of oil, dirt and ensure that surfaces of a shell are totally clean. Then, align 3 holes of a base to holes of a shell and fix by screws. (Caution: Take care not to tighten screws excessively.)
  2. Adjust a shutter to half opened position and press it until it clicks as shown in the drawing. Slide the shutter and make sure it is hooked into rails. (Caution: Make sure that a shutter is fixed to a base properly and there is no gap.)

Opening and Closing the Face Cover

The face cover can be opened and closed with one hand.

  • To open: Slide the button in the bottom center of the face cover forward to release the lock, and then rotate the cover upwards until the stopper clicks.
  • To close: Pull the cover slowly down until the lock clicks.

(Caution: If the button malfunctions and you cannot unlock the face cover, simply undo the face cover screws on either side and slide the face cover down and forward to remove it. Consult your nearest Shoei dealer for repairs. Do not slide the button forward when closing the face cover, as this will prevent the cover from locking.)

Fitting and Removing Screw Covers:

  • To remove: Insert a slotted head screwdriver covered by cloth into the indicated position, paying attention not to hurt painting of the face cover, and lift it to remove.
  • To fix: Adjust a hook of a screw cover to a gutter of a face cover and press the position (A).

Fitting and Removing the Face Cover and Face Cover Bases

Removing the Face Cover:

  1. Remove screw covers of the face cover.
  2. Rotate the face cover upward until it locks.
  3. Remove the face cover screws of both sides using a 5mm hex key.
  4. A face cover base can be removed by removing screw (A).

Fitting the Face Cover:

  1. Identify the left and right face cover bases and secure with screws (A).
  2. With the face cover fully open, line up the screw holes. Check that the recessed and projecting parts of the washers and face cover bases are aligned, and lightly fasten the screws.
  3. Pull the face cover down until it locks.
  4. Adjust so there are no gaps between face cover and shell, and then fully tighten the right and left screws.
  5. Fix screw covers at the end.

(Caution: The face cover must be fitted in the fully open position. Attempting to fit the cover in any other position may damage the mechanism. After fixing, ensure the cover locks when closed. Always check that both face cover screws are fastened tight before starting off.)

Introduction of QRV Base and CX-1V Visor/Shield

The CX-1V, the mechanical visor/shield, has the mechanism itself for easy detaching and attaching while the wind noise is decreased astonishingly by the elimination of the covers to fix the visor/shield to the shell. This SHOEI design simplifies attachment and removal, and the absence of protruding parts makes the helmet extremely quiet.

Diagram Description: The diagram shows the components of the and the . Labeled parts include Hook Rail, Gear Box, Trigger, Pre-set Lever Washer, Preset Opening Lever for the base, and CX-1V Visor/Shield with Center Gear (Upper/Lower) and Hook.

How to Remove and Fix Shield/Visor

Removing a Shield/Visor:

  1. Open a shield/visor fully.
  2. Release a lock by drawing a trigger downward.
  3. Remove a hook from a hook rail, and then, remove a center gear of a shield/visor from the gear box.

Fixing a Shield/Visor:

  1. Do in a reverse order.
  2. Place a shield/visor in a full open position.
  3. Insert an upper portion of the center gear into the gear box until the lower portion is locked.
  4. Make sure that the hook is fixed to the hook rail firmly.

(Caution: Remove or fix the reverse side in the same manner. When fixing a new shield/visor, make fine adjustment of shield base if necessary.)

Adjustment of Shield/Visor (CX-1V, CF-1V)

This section details how to adjust the shield/visor base if the shield/visor is not touching the window beading closely enough, or does not close properly after replacement.

Check Point A: Is the top inside edge of the shield/visor touching the window beading snugly?

Check Point B: Is the bottom inside edge of the shield/visor touching the lip of the window beading snugly?

Procedure for adjusting the shield base:

  1. Remove the shield/visor and loosen the 4 screws (2 each side).
  2. Align the lower portion of the shield base with the shell hole and tighten the screw.
  3. Align the upper portion of the shield base with the shell hole and tighten the screw. Repeat for the opposite shield base.

If a gap still remains between the shield/visor and the beading after the above procedure:

  1. Loosen the right upper screw only (while the lower screw remains tightened).
  2. Rotate the upper portion of the shield base backwards slightly and re-tighten the screw. Re-fit the visor. This should resolve the problem.
  3. If a slight gap still remains, repeat the procedure.

If a gap still remains in both top and bottom ends of a shield/visor:

  1. Remove the shield/visor and loosen the 4 screws (2 each side).
  2. Push both the right and left side shield bases rearward a slight amount. Then, re-fit shield/visor and check for gaps. If gaps remain at the bottom, repeat steps 6 to 7.
  3. Make sure that the ratchet and gear mechanism are meshed.

Warnings/Précautions d'utilisation:

  • In case newly fitted CF-1V shield/visor does not close properly when replacing the CX-1V type shield/visor: The CF-1V has a 2-D shape, unlike the CX-1V. Adjustment of the shield base is required. Press the shield/visor firmly at the top part to ensure proper closure.

Before Fitting Preset Opening Lever: Place the preset lever washer with its lower end to the front and higher end to the rear before fitting the lever.

(Caution: Use genuine parts when replacing a shield/visor, shield base, or preset lever.)

Recommendations for shield/visor:

  • Do not use smoke or smoke mirror shield/visor during night riding. Use a clear visor.
  • Clean with neutral detergent, rinse well, and dry with a soft cloth. Never use solvents like benzene, thinner, gasoline, or glass cleaner.
  • Replace scratched or dirty visors that cannot be cleaned to ensure clear vision.
  • The color of mirror-coated visors may change with use.

Attention/Attenzione:

  • Ensure shield base screws are tightened regularly.
  • Ensure center gear parts and hooks are locked and the shield is securely fixed. A loose shield may detach or open while riding.
  • If a base or screw is damaged, use only genuine replacement parts.

After removing inner fittings, wipe the polystyrene foam inside the helmet with a cloth moistened with water or neutral detergent. NEVER use solvents like benzene, thinner, or gasoline.

Precautions:

  • Never ride with the face cover open. Always ensure it is closed and locked before setting off. Close the visor/shield before opening or closing the face cover.
  • Before wearing the helmet, check that hooks and lower sections of shield center gears are locked.
  • Clean visor/shield and ventilation parts with a dilute solution of neutral detergent and water. Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth. Never use benzene, thinner, petrol, or harsh cleaners.
  • Always ensure the center pad and cheek pads are attached before using the helmet.

Fitting the Chin Curtain

The chin curtain prevents air from being drawn into the helmet from under your chin.

  • Insert a plate in the gap between a face cover and a liner (A) firmly. It may come off during a ride if not fixed properly.

(Caution: Do not hold parts by their attachments when carrying the helmet, as they may be dislocated or broken.)
