Main features · A standard adapter plug for a 3.5 mm mini jack (like the patch cables that are widely used with modular synthesizers) to 6.3 mm (1/4") jack is included with this unit. · We have also improved this unit by adjusting the input circuit to accommodate modular synthesizers, which use higher voltages for a stable display that's easier to tune. · This unit features a large, easy-to-read 3D visual meter, putting this tuner's display on footing with the LEDs used on modular and analog synthesizers. Batteries are not included, so you must purchase them separately. When the batteries are almost depleted, the blue LED in the LED meter blinks. When this happens, install new batteries as soon as possible to ensure accurate tuning. 1 Open the battery cover, located on the back of the tuner. 2 Insert the batteries, making sure to observe the correct polarity. 3 Return the battery cover to its original position. | Making connections Connect the musical instrument that you want to tune to the INPUT jack, and connect the OUTPUT jack to an amplifier or similar equipment. Turn off the power of all devices before you make any connections to avoid damaging your equipment. The INPUT and OUTPUT jacks are mono. Stereo (TRS) cables will not work. Note: When using the internal mic for tuning, make sure nothing is connected to the INPUT and OUTPUT jacks. The internal mic cannot be used when a device is connected. Connecting to a synthesizer When using this tuner with a modular synthesizer, connect the oscillator output to the ST1K to tune the oscillator pitch. Connect the OUTPUT jack of the ST1K to the filter or other component of the modular synthesizer. 4 ST1K - Tuning Tuning | How to tune 1 Press the power button. The power will turn on/off each time you press this button. The calibration setting will appear in the note name display for a few seconds (light blinking). In addition, the blue LED in the tuning LED meter will light up. If the power is left on for approximately 3 minutes without any user input, it will turn off automatically. 2 If desired, adjust the calibration ( Adjusting the calibration) and/or select the display mode ( Setting the display mode). 3 Play a single note on your instrument and tune it so that the desired note appears in the note name display. The note name closest to the entered note appears in the note name display. 4 Tune your instrument using the tuning LED meter. The method for indicating whether your instrument is in tune, sharp or flat depends on which display mode you choose. Even if the pitch is within the range of detection, it may not be possible to detect the pitch of an instrumental sound that contains large numbers of overtones or a sound that has a rapid decay. | Adjusting the calibration The ST1K comes from the factory with the calibration set to A=440 Hz. If an adjustment is necessary, you can do so within a range of 436445 Hz. 1 Press the CALIB button. The current setting will blink for several seconds in the note display (Light Blink). 2 While the current calibration setting is shown in the note name display, press the CALIB button again to adjust the setting. Each time you press the CALIB button you will cycle through the following settings. 5 ST1K - Tuning 3 After you have selected your desired calibration setting, wait approximately two seconds without pressing any buttons. The new setting will blink three times in the note name display indicating the calibration has been set. The ST1K will automatically return to tuner mode. The calibration setting will be remembered even if the power is turned off. However, this setting will be reset to the factory default if the batteries are removed. | Setting the display mode The ST1K allows you to choose one of three display mode settings. The factory setting is Regular mode. 1 Press the DISPLAY button. The current setting will blink for several seconds in the note display (Light Blink). 2 When the setting is shown in the note name display, press the Display button again to set the display mode. Each time you press the DISPLAY button you will cycle through the following settings. 1: Regular Tune your instrument until the blue LED in the LED meter lights up brightly. If the pitch is too high, the white LEDs on the right side light up; and if the pitch is too low, the white LEDs on the left side light up. 2: Strobe Tune your instrument until the LEDs stop running. Since the strobe meter has higher precision, it allows you to tune with greater accuracy. The illumination will flow from left to right if the pitch is high, or from right to left if the pitch is low. 3: Half-strobe Tune your instrument until the LED meter lights stop pulsating outwards and only the blue LED lights up. If the pitch is too high, the white LEDs on the right side strobe on; and if the pitch is too low, the white LEDs on the left side strobe on. When the pitch is correct, only the blue LED lights up. 3 After you've chosen the display mode you would like to use, wait approximately two seconds without pressing any buttons. The note name display will blink two times, the display mode will be set. The ST1K will automatically return to tuner mode. The display mode setting will be remembered even if the power is turned off.
