Notes:
- The M.2_2 slot shares bandwidth with the SATA6G_2 port.
- When a device in SATA mode is installed on the M.2 socket, the SATA6G_2 port cannot be used.
Chapter 1: Product Introduction
1.1 Before You Proceed
Take note of the following precautions before installing motherboard components or changing settings:
- Unplug the power cord from the wall socket before touching any component.
- Use a grounded wrist strap or touch a grounded object/metal object (like the power supply case) to avoid static electricity damage when handling components.
- Ensure the ATX power supply is switched off or the power cord is detached before installing or removing components to prevent severe damage.
1.2 Motherboard Overview
The motherboard layout is illustrated with numbered components. Key components include the CPU socket (LGA1200), DDR4 DIMM slots, expansion slots (PCIe), power connectors (ATX 12V, EATXPWR), storage connectors (M.2, SATA), USB headers, fan headers, audio connectors, and various internal I/O headers.
1.2.1 Layout Contents
- CPU Socket: LGA1200 socket for 11th Gen Intel® Core™ Processors & 10th Gen Intel® Core™, Pentium® Gold and Celeron® Processors.
- DDR4 DIMM Slots: Four slots for DDR4 memory modules.
- Expansion Slots: Supports PCIe x16 graphics cards and PCIe 3.0 x1 cards.
- Fan Headers: Connectors for system fans.
- Power Connectors: For connecting the motherboard to a power supply. Ensure the 8-pin power plug is connected. A minimum 350W ATX 12V Specification 2.0 (or later) power supply is recommended for a fully configured system.
- M.2 Slots (Key M): Allow installation of M.2 devices like SSDs. M.2_1 supports PCIe 4.0 x4 (11th Gen CPUs only), M.2_2 supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA modes.
- SATA 6Gb/s Connectors: For connecting SATA devices like optical drives and hard disk drives.
- USB 3.2 Gen 1 Header: Connects a USB 3.2 Gen 1 module for additional ports, supporting up to 5 Gb/s.
- USB 2.0 Headers: Connects USB modules for four additional USB 2.0 ports, supporting up to 480 Mb/s. Do not connect 1394 cables to USB connectors.
- AURA Addressable Gen 2 Headers: For connecting addressable RGB WS2812B LED strips (5V/Data/Ground), with a maximum power rating of 3A (5V) per header and a combined maximum of 500 LEDs.
- AURA RGB Headers: For connecting RGB LED strips (12V/G/R/B), with a maximum power rating of 3A (12V) and a maximum length of 3m.
- Clear CMOS Header: Clears CMOS RTC RAM data (date, time, passwords). Short the pins to erase.
- COM Port Header: For a serial (COM) port.
- Front Panel Audio Header: For chassis-mounted HD audio modules.
- S/PDIF Out Header: For an additional Sony/Philips Digital Interface (S/PDIF) port.
- SPI TPM Header: Supports Trusted Platform Module (TPM) systems for secure storage.
- 20-3 Pin System Panel Header: For system power LED, HDD activity LED, and system warning speaker. Also includes ATX power button/soft-off button, Reset button, and Chassis intrusion header.
- Thunderbolt™ Header: For connecting add-on Thunderbolt™ I/O cards and devices.
1.2.2 Rear Panel Connectors
The rear panel provides various connectivity options:
- PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse Combo Port: For PS/2 mouse or keyboard.
- Video Graphics Adapter (VGA) Port: 15-pin port for VGA monitors.
- Ethernet Port: Gigabit connection to a LAN. Includes LED indicators for Activity/Link and Speed.
- Line In Port (Light Blue): Connects audio sources like tape, CD, DVD players.
- Line Out Port (Lime): Connects headphones or speakers. In multi-channel configurations, it serves as Front Speaker Out.
- USB 2.0 Ports: 4-pin ports for USB 2.0 devices.
- HDMITM Port: For High-Definition Multimedia Interface connectors, HDCP compliant for protected content playback.
- DisplayPort: For DisplayPort-compatible devices.
- USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type-C®) Port: Connects USB 3.2 Gen 1 devices.
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 Ports: 9-pin ports for USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices (up to 10Gbps).
- Microphone Port (Pink): Connects a microphone. The function of audio ports varies by channel configuration (2, 4, 5.1, or 7.1).
1.3 Central Processing Unit (CPU)
This motherboard uses an LGA1200 socket for 11th Gen Intel® Core™ Processors & 10th Gen Intel® Core™, Pentium® Gold and Celeron® Processors. Ensure correct CPU installation to avoid damage. Keep the PnP cap for RMA purposes. Warranty does not cover damage from incorrect CPU installation.
Installing the CPU
Follow these steps for CPU installation:
- Unplug all power cables.
- Ensure the correct CPU for the LGA1200 socket is used.
- Check the socket for the PnP cap and ensure contacts are not bent.
- Install the CPU carefully into the socket, aligning the triangle marks.
- Secure the CPU with the retention mechanism.
- Apply Thermal Interface Material to the CPU heatsink and CPU before installing the heatsink and fan.
1.4 System Memory
The motherboard features four DDR4 DIMM sockets. Memory installation involves aligning the notch on the DIMM with the socket and pushing down until the clips secure it. Dual-channel memory configuration is supported. Ensure compatibility with CPU memory support speeds.
1.5 M.2 Installation
To install an M.2 storage device:
- Install the bundled M.2 rubber pad before installing single-sided M.2 devices. Do not install rubber pads for double-sided M.2 devices.
- Secure the M.2 device with screws.
Chapter 2: BIOS Information
2.1 Knowing BIOS
The ASUS UEFI BIOS provides a user-friendly interface for system configuration. BIOS stores hardware settings like storage configuration, overclocking, and boot device settings. Default settings are recommended for optimal performance. Change settings only when necessary (e.g., error messages, new component installation).
2.2 BIOS Setup Program

2.3 ASUS EZ Flash 3
ASUS EZ Flash 3 allows BIOS updates without an OS. Ensure BIOS default settings are loaded first. Use a FAT 32/16 formatted USB flash drive. Insert the USB drive, navigate to Tool > ASUS EZ Flash 3 Utility in BIOS, select the BIOS file, and follow prompts. Do not shut down or reset during the update.
2.4 ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3
This utility helps restore a corrupted BIOS file. Download the latest BIOS from the ASUS website, rename it (e.g., ASUS.CAP or PB560PS.CAP), and copy it to a USB flash drive. Insert the drive during system boot; the utility will automatically find and use the BIOS file. Load default BIOS values (
