Cybersecurity Protection for Control and Safety Systems

Improving an organization's security and protections for its control and safety systems against cybersecurity threats is of vital importance to safety critical process industries.

Our assessment of the evolving cyber threat landscape is that additional proactive measures are essential to improving an organization's security program and ensuring those programs are equivalent to or exceed then current industry standards. • Being a true vendor agnostic software fine-tuned by control system professionals, Cyber Insights is capable of helping an organization monitor most adjacent systems equally effectively.
• Cyber Insights is designed to be an extension of the Experion control system and is currently the only qualified software tested to monitor Fault Tolerant Ethernet network and CDA protocol.
• Additionally, Cyber Insights comes with Technical Support from our Honeywell Global Technical Assistance Centre (GTAC).

We recommend and request all customers install Cyber Insights on their Experion and Safety Manager systems to help them improve their current risk profile that process control systems are facing globally.

Safety Manager R162.11 Announcement

Safety Manager software release R162.11 has been released and is available for shipment. This release provides improvements and overall maintenance to the product.

Key functionalities supported by Safety Manager R162.11 are:

• TÜV SIL3 approved FSC Controller to Safety Manager Controller migration
• Support of FSC IO modules
• FSC specific functionalities to support migration:
  • Annunciator
  • PID
  • SensAl
  • Functional Logic Diagram Symbol library 2 (Portrait mode: SYM2)

ControlEdge PLC R180.1 Announcement

The latest release, R180 of ControlEdge PLC introduces a new Control Processor Module with enhanced memory and exciting new features to stay ahead of competition.

R180 brings following new features to ControlEdge PLC –

• Memory Enhancement of the CPM
  • Enhance DDR memory from 4Gb to 8Gb.
  • Enhance flash from 2Gb to 4Gb.
• Extended Temperature Support

Last Time Buy Announcement – Workstation Platforms for Experion PKS R51x and R520

Global supply chain challenges have significantly impacted access to components and technology used in today's computing environments. Technology producers are prioritizing materials and production towards modern form factors and offerings, and new technology offerings in the market have support limited to only the latest operating system versions.

Due to these constraints, it is expected that the current workstation platforms which support the Experion PKS R51x and R520 operating systems will reach End of Sale status in Q3 2024. Honeywell does not expect any new workstation platforms will be available in the market which can support either the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2019 or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2016 operating systems.

The following workstation models will be affected by this End of Sale transition:

Honeywell strongly encourages customers to explore one of the following mitigation options:

1. Pursue last time purchases of the current workstation platforms to cover the expected requirements for the duration of Experion PKS R51x and R520 usage.
2. Deploy virtualization technology to eliminate the bond between the hardware, Experion PKS release, and the operating system. Honeywell's virtualization offerings have broad operating system support over multiple generations of Experion PKS releases.
3. Migrate to Experion PKS R530 to access new workstation platform offerings.

Honeywell Certified Recycled Parts (CRP) may also have limited inventory of supported workstation platforms (subject to availability).

Specific End of Sale announcements for each platform will be published in future editions of HINTS.

Phase Out Notification – Experion® PKS R510, R511 (R51x)

Experion PKS R510 and R511 (collectively known as R51x) will be phased out effective July 31, 2024.

As per the HPS/HCI Product Support Guide summarized in the support guidelines (overview, current status), a system software functional release is intended to be supported for a period of 72 months after the initial release. As Experion PKS R510 was launched in July 2018, this announcement is a formal notification that the entire Experion PKS R51x release train will be phased out.

A phased-out product no longer receives PAR fixes. Technical support for Phased-Out software will be limited to restoration of serious LOV/LOC Incidents. HPS-TS will make commercially reasonable best efforts to assist in restoring operations but will not offer RCA (Root Cause Analysis) once Incidents are restored. We can also provide support to migrate a Phased-Out Software Product to a Full Support Software Product.

We strongly recommend that customers with installed R51x or earlier releases start proactive migration planning to the latest supported Experion PKS releases. Migration services to upgrade phased-out releases to the latest Experion PKS versions are available and fully supported. The latest release, Experion PKS R520.2, is fully supported on Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019, and supports direct migration from Experion PKS R51x.

Note: Phased Out Releases do not receive MS updates or Antivirus qualifications (as explained below).

Phase Out Notification – Control Edge 900 IO Family

Control Edge 900 IO family comprises of the following 3 analog Output modules –

• 900B01-0301 - Analog Output, 0 to 20mA, (4 channel)
• 900B08-0202 - Analog Outputs 0 to 20mA (8 channel, 5 modules/rack)
• 900B16-0202 - Analog Outputs 0 to 20mA (16 channel, 2 modules per rack)

Due to component obsolescence issue, 4 Channel AO module (900B01-0301) will be phased out going forward and customers are requested to use 8 channel AO module (900B08-0202) in place of the 4-channel module. Orders for 4 channel AO modules will not be accepted going forward.

Update on VMWare by Broadcom licensing and Impact to Experion Virtualization Solutions

Since 2010, Honeywell has led the process control industry in adopting the latest in virtualization platform technology. These capabilities have been enabled by Honeywell's close partnership with VMware, and there are numerous features in VMware products which have been specifically engineered to support the needs of Honeywell customers. Experion Virtualization Solutions combines Honeywell's expertise in process control virtualization with state-of-the-art VMware products to increase the reliability, availability, and functionality of industrial control systems while providing new methods to improve the lifecycle experience and reduce the total cost of ownership of process control infrastructure platforms.

Broadcom completed the acquisition of VMware in November 2023. VMware by Broadcom has announced significant investments in the core VMware product lines to enable new features and technology, and efforts are underway to provide portfolio simplification to reduce the complexity of the VMware by Broadcom solution offerings. Honeywell is in support of the simplification efforts, and as announced by VMware by Broadcom, the changes will include a transition to subscription licenses. As a result, Experion Virtualization Solutions will be transitioning to subscription licenses and simultaneously depreciating existing legacy perpetual licensing.

Honeywell is confident that VMware by Broadcom understands the needs of critical industries such as those served by Experion PKS and has implemented their subscription mechanism to eliminate risks to industrial control systems. Licensing for Experion Virtualization Solutions will transition during 1H 2024 to adopt the new subscription licensing schema. Honeywell has full confidence in the suitability for this licensing model with Experion PKS, and this transition is expected to complete by May 06, 2024 or sooner.

Honeywell customers can expect to see the following benefits:

• Reduced licensing complexity through simplified license bundles
• Greater cost predictability and potential opportunities for reduced licensing costs
• A subscription implementation model which will maintain the operation of critical functionality in the event a license renewal was missed
• Long subscription terms which minimize administrative burdens by eliminating the annual VMware SnS (SESP) renewals
