CAUTION: Risk of Shock. Mounting does not insure grounding continuity of this illuminating cover plate. The grounding jumper MUST be connected DIRECTLY to the grounding terminal (conductor) of the illuminating cover plate." (figure 1) (figure 2) I - off II - on BEFORE INSTALLATION: Before removing your existing cover plate, turn off the power on your circuit breaker panel to be sure your power is OFF. (see figure 1) Follow the instructions for your specific breaker box. - Adjusting nightlight feature - Set the nightlight feature of briteOwlTM before installing by switching the dip switch to the desired position. (see figure 2) briteOwlTM will still illuminate during a power failure while the dip switch is in the off (II) position. (figure 3) (figure 4) INSTALLATION Step 1: Remove the existing cover plate from the outlet by removing the screw. (See figure 3) Step 2: Remove the clear plastic tab located in the upper right corner on the backside of the cover plate. Give the same corner a firm squeeze to lock battery back in place in chase is shifted during shipping. Step 3: Look closely into the electrical box to ensure the screw terminals are free and clear for installation of the briteOwl prongs. (see figure 4) (figure 5) Step 4: Hold the briteOwlTM by the sides, (with the prongs facing the electrical box) and slide onto the electrical outlet. Be sure to slide the plate so the screw hole lines up properly. (see figure 5) Note: The prongs should slide around the side screw terminals on the outlet box to contact the lower screw heads. If the lower screw heads are recessed too far you may need to hire an electrician to remove the outlet and raise them. (figure 6) Be sure there is plenty of room between the prongs and the sides of the power box. Inadequate room between the outlet and the outlet box can result in damage to your briteOwlTM. (see figure 6) (figure 7) Step 5: Push briteOwlTM flush to the wall and secure with a screw. (see figure 7) (figure 8) Step 6: On your circuit board panel, switch the power back on. (see figure 8) Follow the instructions for your specific breaker box. Your briteOwlTM should now be ready! CAUTION · Keep out of reach of children and pets. This is not a kid's toy. Children should not be allowed to play with electrical outlets and cover plates. · briteOwl should only be used on standard Duplex or Decora style outlets and will not work on GFCI outlets. · Installation of briteOwl should be in accordance with applicable electrical codes and regulations. · Do NOT stick fingers and/or tools into an electrical box while the power is ON. · briteOwl should be installed in dry locations and is not meant to be used outdoors. · briteOwl should NOT be used on an outlet where there is more than one branch circuit. · briteOwl should NOT be used on an outlet where one receptacle is always on, and one is switched. · Only use on pure AC outlets. · Do not use where any foreign objects can come in contact with the terminals.
