Important Safety Measures
Before using this machine, please read all the safety and operating instructions. Keep these instructions for future reference.
- Power Supply: Ensure the power cord is protected from damage and not stressed. Do not pull or drag the power cord.
- Ventilation: Place the unit in a ventilated space, at least 10cm away from walls, and do not cover the vents.
- Dismantling: Do not dismantle or open the unit. Refer servicing to qualified technicians.
- Smoke: If unusual smoke appears, unplug the unit immediately and contact customer support.
- Voltage Switch: Ensure the voltage switch inside the battery compartment is set to the correct AC voltage for your region (110V or 220V).
Warning: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the cover. No user-serviceable parts inside. Do not expose to rain or moisture. Clean only with a dry cloth.
Quick Start Guide
- Locate the AC power cord on the back panel.
- Connect the cord to an AC power outlet (120V/60Hz).
- Set the function switch to the USB position.
- Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port to automatically play .mp3 content.
- Adjust the Master Volume using the knob.
- Use the Forward and Rewind keys to navigate tracks.
Features and Operation
AC Operation
- Verify the unit's operating voltage matches your local power supply.
- Connect the supplied AC power cord to the unit's AC socket.
- The battery is automatically disconnected when the AC cord is plugged in.
Battery Operation
- Unplug the AC cord.
- Insert UM-4 batteries (not included) into the battery compartment, observing correct polarity.
- Close the battery cover.
Radio Operation
- Select the desired band (FM/AM/SW1-SW2) using the BAND selector.
- Tune to the desired station using the TUNING knob.
- For FM and SW reception, extend the telescopic antenna fully and adjust its position for best signal.
- Adjust the VOLUME control to your preference.
- To turn off the radio, set the function selector to TAPE (OFF).
- For private listening, connect headphones (not included) to the headphone jack. The speakers will automatically turn off.
Cassette Playback
- Set the function selector to TAPE.
- Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette door. Insert cassette tape with the open side facing up. Close the door.
- Use the PLAY button to start playback.
- Use F.FWD (Fast Forward) and REW (Rewind) for tape control.
- Press STOP to end playback or release F.FWD/REW.
- The AUTO STOP system will stop the tape automatically at the end.
- Use the PAUSE button for temporary stops during playback or recording. Press PAUSE again to resume.
- Adjust volume with the VOLUME control knob.
Recording Functions
Direct Recording from Radio
- Set the function selector to RADIO.
- Tune to the desired radio station.
- Insert a blank cassette tape.
- Press the REC and PLAY buttons simultaneously to start recording.
- Press STOP to end recording or PAUSE for a temporary stop.
Tape to .mp3 Recording
- Set the function switch to TAPE and insert your music cassette.
- Insert a USB or SD Card.
- Press the REC button. The REC/MP3 PLAY light will illuminate.
- Press PLAY on the cassette to begin conversion to .mp3 format (128Kbps resolution).
Built-in Mic Recording
- Set the function switch to USB and insert a blank USB or SD Card.
- Press the REC button. The REC/MP3 light will illuminate.
- Speak into the built-in microphone to record (128Kbps resolution).
- Press and hold the REC/DEL button to erase the current track on the USB/SD card.
Bluetooth to Tape Recording
- Set the function switch to MP3/BT.
- Insert a blank cassette tape.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your mobile device and search for "J-220BT". Select to connect.
- You will hear a prompt sound and see a light flash upon successful connection.
- Select music from your preferred app and press the RECORD and PLAY buttons on the tape deck to begin the transfer.
Bluetooth MP3 Instructions
- Set the function switch to MP3/BT.
- Listen for the Bluetooth prompt sound.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your mobile device and search for "J-220BT".
- Select the option to connect. You will hear a confirmation sound and see a light flash.
- You can now select and play music from your favorite music app.
USB/SD Card Playback
- Insert a USB/SD Card into the corresponding port.
- Music playback will begin automatically.
- Use the unit's Forward and Rewind functions to navigate through .mp3 files.
Care and Maintenance
- Keep the tape path clean by opening the cassette door and cleaning the tape head, capstan, and pinch roller with a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol or tape head cleaner. Avoid scratching the head.
- Clean the unit housing with a soft, damp cloth, then wipe dry.
- Caution: Never use chemicals like benzene or paint thinner for cleaning.
- Keep magnets and metallic objects away from the tape head to prevent damage and maintain sound quality.
Troubleshooting
- If the cassette tape fails to move, reception is poor, or volume fluctuates, try replacing the batteries or connecting to a power source.

Voltage Switch Location
