It works with an impeller inside the inlet fitting that spins with water flow. The spinning is what signals the unit to start. It is very common to get build up and clogs in first installations from debris in the water line. - Purge well the water line before connecting to inlet fitting. - If water from well or other source, sediment filter is recommended. - If unit does not start, check if inlet fitting screen is clogged with sediment or sealant and/or if impeller is stuck. - Instructions to clean impeller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXuUNCtSu20 - See Troubleshooting Guide for instructions. · Scale: hard water may corrode and damage heat exchangers, fittings and specially sensors in the tankless water heater.
