RIVA Maptuner X Quick Start Guide
Important: Read all pages before starting to tune. Maptuner X is for vehicles previously added to Maptuner 1. Do not use Maptuner 1 on a vehicle already added to Maptuner X. Screenshots may differ from actual screens as new functions are added. Some functions require separate purchase.
Coverage: All 4-Stroke 2008+ PWC, YXZ SxS. Updated 11/8/2023.

The following components and software are necessary for using the RIVA Maptuner X:

A. RIVA Maptuner X
A device for quickly and easily loading performance tunes into watercraft, ATVs, or UTVs without shipping the ECU. Features a full-color touchscreen display. Allows reflashing an unlimited number of vehicles and tunes.

Connects the Maptuner X to a computer system. Included with all Maptuner X units.

Connects the Maptuner X directly to the ECU communication port and battery.

E. RIVA Maptuner X Yamaha Tuning License
One license is required for each Yamaha vehicle being flashed. Provides access to RIVA's tuning library and technical support. Allows switching between performance tunes and stock settings. Licenses are VIN-specific once activated and non-refundable. Tuning licenses are emailed directly to the purchaser.

F. Computer Requirements
Requires a PC running Windows 7 or higher with a working internet connection.
Icon Definitions
The Maptuner X interface uses several key functions accessible via buttons:
- Programming ⚙️: Select and load downloaded files to the watercraft's ECU. View downloaded maps and vehicle requirements. Allows upgrading multiple vehicles and tunes.
- Service ?: Access the service functions menu to perform tasks like diagnosing check engine warnings, resetting maintenance intervals, and resetting the TPS.
- Fault Codes ⚠️: Read stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the ECU. Provides information on code meanings and repair procedures. Allows viewing issues causing problems with ECU maps and clearing fixed codes.
- Monitoring ?: View vital vehicle data in real-time, including Temperature Sensors, RPM, Speed, Ignition Timing, TPS, MAP Sensor, Battery Voltage, and LAMBDA/O2 (with optional accessories). Essential for performance tuning and diagnostics.
- Add Vehicle ➕: Connect vehicles to the RIVA Maptuner X device. Each vehicle must be added before using a tuning map.
- My Vehicles ?: View and select from a list of all vehicles installed on the Maptuner X device, displaying vehicle type, brand, and serial numbers. Allows activation of specific vehicles for work.
- Information ℹ️: Check for the latest firmware updates, view version information, current active vehicle details, and status reports. Displays VIN, Maptuner X version, and last calibration for the active vehicle.
- Data Logging ?: A tool for recording real-time data directly on the Maptuner X device (device not included) for later review. Records all monitored data, including engine sensors and accessory outputs. Part #: RY11UNI-LOG

Programming - Loading Tunes to ECU
Follow these steps to load performance tunes onto your vehicle's ECU:
Step 1: Software Installation
Download and install the MyMaptuner software for your Windows OS version from https://maptuner.se/download/Default.aspx.
Step 2: User Account Creation
Open the MyMaptuner software. Click "New User". Enter your Email, Full Name, and the Software Code received with your license purchase. Your login details will be emailed to you.

Step 3: Device Synchronization
Connect the Maptuner X to your computer. Click the "Synchronize" button to update its firmware online. Then, unplug the Maptuner X from the computer.

Step 4: Locate Vehicle Components
For 1.8L Engines (2009+): Remove the seat and locate the Electrical Box & Battery. Remove the outer ECU casing.

For TR-1 Engines: EX models require seat base removal for ECU access. Locate the ECU near the battery.

Step 5: Connect Maptuner X to ECU
Unplug the original ECU connectors. Plug the Maptuner X into the ECU connector using the appropriate Yamaha programming cable.

Step 6: Connect Power to Battery
Connect the power cable clamps from the Yamaha programming cable to the battery terminals. IMPORTANT: Ensure correct polarity: RED = POSITIVE (+), BLACK = NEGATIVE (Ground). Incorrect connection can cause damage.

Step 7: Add Vehicle to Maptuner X
On the Maptuner X device, press the "Add Vehicle" button. The craft will be identified and stored. This may take several minutes. After loading, disconnect the Maptuner X from the vehicle. An "My Vehicles" icon will appear.

Step 8: Synchronize Device Again
Connect the Maptuner X back to your computer and click the "Synchronize" button to update the device.

Step 9: Select Maptuner X
On the MyMaptuner software, select "Maptuner X" to connect.

Step 10: Claim and Submit License/Tunes
You will need a license code, purchased from rivaracing.com or an authorized dealer. Enter your license code to add it to your account. Then, select the desired tune files and click "Submit Request". Confirm your selection.

Important: Installing the wrong tune may cause poor performance or engine damage. RIVA Racing is not responsible for issues arising from incorrect part substitutions or modifications.
Step 11: Connect Maptuner X to Vehicle for Flashing
Unplug the Maptuner X from the computer and connect it to the vehicle's ECU using the appropriate programming cable. Reconnect the power cable clamps to the battery terminals (RED to POSITIVE, BLACK to NEGATIVE).

Step 12: Verify Vehicle ID
Press the "My Vehicles" button on the Maptuner X display to confirm that your craft's ID or VIN is active.

Step 13: Initiate Programming
Press the "Programming" button on the Maptuner X display to begin the flashing process.

Step 14: Select and Download Tune
Select the desired tune file, ensure you have all necessary parts for that tune, and press "Next >". Then select "Download" to start the flashing process.

Step 15: Complete Programming
Once flashing is complete, disconnect the Maptuner X from the vehicle. Reconnect all original ECU and battery connectors. Replace the electrical box cover and test start the engine. Programming is now complete.

Service - Read & Clear Fault Codes
Follow these steps to read and clear diagnostic trouble codes:
Step 1: Access Electrical Cover and Connect Cable
Locate and remove the electrical cover in the front compartment by pressing the holder clips. Note that some covers may differ visually.

Use the proper PWC cable to plug into the Maptuner X Diagnostic Cable.
Step 2: Connect Diagnostic Cable
Locate the wiring harness plug for the diagnostic connector. On some machines, you may need to disconnect the speedometer cable. Some diagnostic plugs may have a protective cap.
Pull apart the connector to allow the Maptuner X Diagnostic cable to be plugged in. Insert the Maptuner X cable into the diagnostic connector.

Step 3: Enter Service Menu
Press the "Service" button on the Maptuner X display to enter the Service Menu.

Step 4: Access Fault Codes Section
Press the "Fault Codes" button to enter the Read & Clear Error Codes section.

Step 5: Read and Clear Codes
Press the "Read" button to identify all fault codes, then press the "Clear" button to remove them.

Step 6: Finalize Service
Once error codes are cleared, disconnect the Maptuner X from the vehicle. Re-insert the diagnostic connector's cable to its original position.

RIVA Maptuner X Limited Service Warranty Policy
RIVA Maptuner X equipment is covered by a 1-year limited warranty against defects in material or workmanship from the date of original retail purchase. Defective products will receive free repair.
- This warranty applies only to the original purchaser from an authorized RIVA dealer and is non-transferable. Authorized dealers can be found at www.rivaracing.com.
- The warranty period for products or parts used for industrial, professional, or commercial purposes is one year.
- This warranty is void if the product has been used for rental purposes.
- Damage resulting from modification, alteration, or unauthorized repair is not covered.
- The warranty covers defects arising under normal usage. It does not cover malfunctions, failures, or defects resulting from misuse, abuse (including overloading or liquid immersion), accidents, neglect, improper installation, or improper maintenance/storage.
- Normal deterioration of exterior finish (scratches, dents, paint chips, broken screen) and corrosion or discoloration due to heat, abrasives, or chemicals are not covered.

Additional Limitations
RIVA Racing will repair or replace any defective unit free of charge if returned freight prepaid within the warranty period. Products deemed by RIVA to have been subjected to misuse, abuse, overheating, or accident are not covered. RIVA Racing is not liable for special, incidental, or consequential damages or injury to persons or property arising from the sale, installation, or use of this product. No other warranty, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, applies. Some states may not allow limitations on incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion may not apply to you. Warranty does not cover expenses related to freight, transportation, or compensation for inconvenience or loss of use during repair. A copy of the original invoice and a Return Authorization Number (RA#) must accompany all warranty claims. Warranted replacement parts will be returned freight collect.
