General Safety Rules

Work Area Safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres (e.g., presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust). Power tools create sparks that may ignite dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause loss of control.
Electrical Safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces (pipes, radiators, ranges, refrigerators).
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
- Do not abuse the cord. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
Personal Safety

- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance.

- If dust extraction facilities are provided, ensure they are connected and properly used.
Power Tool Use and Care
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct tool for your application.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
- Disconnect the plug or battery pack before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool.
- Store idle power tools out of reach of children and do not allow untrained persons to operate them.
- Maintain power tools: Check for misalignment, binding, or breakage. Have damaged tools repaired.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.

Service

Functional Description
Switch Action:
The switch has an ON (I) and OFF (O) position. The switch can be locked in the ON position for extended use, but caution is advised, and a firm grip must be maintained.
Punch Plate:
Used to make holes in abrasive paper for dust collection. Place the punch plate over the sandpaper, align it, and press down to create holes. Ensure the punch plate is removed before operating the tool.
Dust Bag:
Attaches to the dust spout for clean sanding and dust collection. Empty the bag when approximately half full.
Assembly
Installing or Removing Abrasive Paper
Operate the clamp lever to open the paper clamp. Insert the paper end, center it, align edges parallel to the pad, and lower the lever to secure. Repeat for the other end, ensuring proper tension. Check that the clamp teeth hold the paper securely to prevent slippage.
Operation
Sanding Operation
Never run the tool without abrasive paper, as this can damage the pad. Do not force the tool; excessive pressure reduces efficiency and tool life.
Hold the tool firmly. Turn it on, wait for full speed, then gently place it on the workpiece surface, keeping the pad flush and applying slight pressure.
Maintenance
To maintain safety and reliability, repairs, carbon brush inspection/replacement, and other maintenance should be performed by Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers using only Makita replacement parts.
Accessories
Recommended accessories include:
- Abrasive papers
- Punch plate
- Dust bag
- Adaptor (for connecting to vacuum cleaner)
Use only accessories for their stated purpose to avoid injury.
Makita Limited One Year Warranty
Makita tools are warranted to be free of defects in workmanship and materials for one year from the original purchase date. Return the complete tool to a Makita Factory or Authorized Service Center for repair or replacement if a defect is found. This warranty does not apply to repairs necessitated by normal wear and tear, abuse, misuse, improper maintenance, or alterations. Makita is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a specific purpose are disclaimed after the one-year term.
