Overview

The Eva S1 PRO is a smart universal IR controller designed to manage infrared-controlled appliances, featuring built-in temperature and humidity sensors for automation.

Getting Started

  1. Make sure to connect your phone to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.
  2. Have your 2.4GHz WiFi password with you.
  3. Your smartphone or tablet is running on iOS 8.0 / Android 4.0 or higher.
  4. Your router security is set to MAC-open, WPA2.

Device Setup

Scan the QR code to download the Eva app.

Account Registration / Log In

For first-time users, create an account and follow on-screen instructions to get a verification code to complete your new account registration.

App screens shown include options to 'Log In', 'Sign Up', or 'Try now'. The registration screen allows selection of region (e.g., Malaysia), input of email address, and obtaining a verification code. It also includes agreement to 'User Agreement' and 'Privacy Policy', with options to register using Google or Apple accounts.

Device Setup and Connection

Power Up and Prepare Your Device

  1. Power up the device using the micro USB cable provided. Ensure it is fully plugged in.
  2. If the LED indicator is not "blinking fast", hold the reset button (about 5 seconds) until the LED indicator is "blinking fast".

Connect to 2.4GHz WiFi Network

Adding Devices

A. Bluetooth Search (Default)

  1. At the “Home” page, touch the [+] icon on the upper right corner to choose the device to add.
  2. You will be prompted to turn on your Bluetooth if it is not turned on. Go to your phone settings and turn ON Bluetooth.
  3. Select "Go to add".
  4. Connect your phone to a 2.4GHz WiFi Network.
  5. Key in your WiFi password. Do not copy-paste the password.
  6. Follow on-screen instructions to add the device.

B. EZ Mode

  1. At the "Home" page, touch the [+] icon on the upper right corner to choose the device to add.
  2. Navigate to "Others" at the side bar.
  3. Choose “Universal Remote Controller" from the list.
  4. Key in your WiFi password. Do not copy-paste the password.
  5. Follow on-screen instructions to add the device.

C. AP Mode

If you have trouble adding the device using EZ Mode, try switching to AP Mode.

  1. On the device, hold the reset button (about 8 seconds) until the LED indicator is "blinking slowly".
  2. On the app, key in your WiFi password and go to the next page. Do not copy and paste your WiFi password.
  3. Switch to “AP Mode” from the upper right corner.
  4. Then connect your phone/tablet to the device hotspot “SmartLife-XXXX".
  5. Return to the app to complete adding the device.

Adding Remote Control for IR Appliances

  1. After adding the device, it will show up on the home page. Select the device and tap on "Add" button.
  2. Then choose the type and brand of the appliance you would like to setup from the cloud library.
  3. You can match your remote by using “Quick Match” or “Manual Mode".
  4. Please make sure to test at least 3 buttons and check if the IR appliance you want to match responds properly.

*Make sure the IR appliance you are trying to match is turned ON, and in the same room as Eva S1 PRO.

Quick Match vs. Manual Mode

Quick Match: Tap on the button in the middle and check if your IR appliance responds to it. Follow on-screen instructions. Ensure Eva S1 Pro is in the same room with the IR appliance.

Manual Mode: Tap on at least 3 buttons on the app remote and check if the IR appliance responds. If it doesn't, tap on the “Another One" button (the number at the back represents the number of remotes). Tap on "Can Control” once it's done.

App screens illustrate the process of pointing the universal remote controller to the device and pressing buttons for matching, and the control interface with options like 'Mode: cold', 'Set Temperature', 'Speed: auto', 'More', 'Switch', and 'Can Control'.

DIY Remote (Self-Learn / Self-Program)

If the IR appliance brand/remote model is not found in the cloud library, use “DIY” to self-learn each button from your physical remote.

  1. Tap "add" button from Eva S1 PRO main page.
  2. Scroll down, select “DIY”, and choose the type of appliance/remote.
  3. You can DIY by “Quick Learn” or “Button-by-button".

App screens show the 'Try Quick Learn' option and the 'Button Learn' interface, guiding the user to press and hold a key on the app remote, then short press the corresponding physical button to learn. Instructions A, B, and C detail the learning process.

NOTE: DIY - "Other" remotes cannot be recognized by 3rd party voice assistants and do not support voice control.

Temperature / Humidity Monitoring & Automation

T&H Monitoring

Eva S1 PRO comes with a temperature & humidity sensor to provide readings on the surroundings. Users can use this data to trigger automation for IR and other smart devices.

After connecting to WiFi, allow about 30 minutes for the sensor to stabilize for accurate readings.

  1. Tap on the temperature reading box at the top left corner to switch temperature units between °C and °F.
  2. Tap on the graph image tab to view detailed temperature & humidity data.

T&H Automation

Users can set up automation to trigger any smart / IR devices using the temperature and humidity data from Eva S1 PRO.

Scenario 1:

When room temperature drops below 21.5°C, set aircond temperature to 25°C and fan to medium.

Scenario 2:

When room humidity drops below 20% RH, turn on smart plug for humidifier.

To create automation:

  1. Tap on “Smart” at the bottom of the app main page.
  2. Tap on the [+] icon at the top right corner to create a new automation.
  3. Select "When device status changes".
  4. Then select Eva S1 PRO.

Continue setting up automation:

  1. Choose the parameter that you would like to trigger the automation.
  2. Then choose “Run the device” to run a certain device / IR appliances.
  3. Or you can choose to automate other tasks such as Smart Scenes or Send Notification.

Automate any smart devices with a "Powered by Tuya" mark to create a seamless smart home automation.

Linking to 3rd Party Voice Assistant

Eva S1 PRO supports various 3rd party voice assistants/smart speakers to allow users to voice command IR devices/appliances. Follow the steps below to enable linking.

  1. At the device main page, select the [settings/menu icon] on the upper right corner.
  2. On "Third-party Control" tab, choose your preferred voice assistant and follow the on-screen instructions to link.

App screens show the device details, including 'Device Information', 'Tap-to-Run and Automation', and 'Third-party Control'. Under 'Third-party Control', options for Alexa, Google Assistant, XIAODU, and Tencent Xiaowei are visible. The 'Others' section includes 'Share Device', 'Create Group', etc.

To link with Tmall Genie, please use the Tuya Smart app, and add the “涂鸦智能” device in the Tmall Genie app.

Device Sharing

Users can share devices with another user from the device settings.

  1. At the device page, select the [settings/menu icon] on the upper right corner.
  2. Select "Share Device".
  3. At the Device Sharing page, select "Add Sharing" and choose the method of sharing.
  4. Key in the app account email of the person you would like to share to.
  5. Select "Done" on the upper right corner to send the invitation.

Home Sharing

Similar to Device Sharing, Home Sharing shares all devices, including settings and automation saved in the current Home with another user.

  1. Select "Me" at the bottom of the app main page, then select "Home Management".
  2. Choose the home that you would like to share (You are required to setup basic home information first if you have not done it yet).
  3. Select "Add Member" to invite.
  4. Key in the required information and set a role for the family member.
    • Administrator: Has the right to add/remove devices, automation.
    • Common Member: Only has the right to use devices.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

What appliances can I control with Eva S1 PRO?

You can control TV, Astro, Aircond, Apple TV, Fan, Projector, Sound bar, any 38KHz IR remote appliances.

I have trouble adding my Eva S1 PRO, what should I do next?

Can I control my appliances outside of my home?

Yes, you can control your appliances using your mobile phone's 3G/4G network data connection.

Can I control appliances in other rooms?

Unfortunately, IR signals cannot penetrate through walls and can only be used to control IR appliances within the same room as Eva S1 PRO. If you would like to control appliances in other rooms, you need to add-on Eva S1 PRO in other rooms as well.

I can't seem to program my remote into the device/app.
