1 Hardware Overview
Note: For simplicity, EAP660 HD is used as an example throughout this Guide. The image may differ from the actual product.
Front Panel
LED Indicator:
- On: Working normally/Initializing.
- Off: Working abnormally/Power off/LED is turned off.
- Flashing:
- Initialization: The LED flashes twice after initialization is completed.
- Upgrade: The LED flashes once per second while upgrading.
- Reset: The LED flashes quickly during the reset. The EAP will then reboot.
- Locate: When the Locate feature is activated in the Omada controller, the LED flashes quickly to locate and identify the device. The LED will flash for 10 minutes, or you can disable the feature manually to stop it flashing.
Rear Panel
- Ethernet Port: 2.5G ETH (PoE) (for EAP660 HD) | ETH (PoE) (for EAP610/EAP620 HD). This port connects to a router or switch for data transmission, or to a PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) like a PoE switch for data and Power over Ethernet (PoE). Supports 10/100/1000/2500 Mbps for EAP660 HD and 10/100/1000 Mbps for EAP610/EAP620 HD.
- Power Port: 12V ⎓ 2A (for EAP660 HD) | 12V ⎓ 1A (for EAP610/EAP620 HD). Connect the provided power adapter here and to a wall outlet.
RESET Button: With the device powered on, press and hold the button for about 5 seconds until the LED flashes quickly. Release the button to restore factory default settings.
2 Hardware Installation
The EAP can be ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted. Choose a mounting method according to your needs.
Option 1: Ceiling Mounting
Note: Ensure the ceiling tile is larger than the EAP.
Steps:
- Remove the ceiling tile.
- Place the mounting bracket in the center of the ceiling tile. Mark four positions for screw holes and one for the Ethernet cable. Drill four 4 mm diameter holes for screws and a 25 mm diameter hole for the Ethernet cable.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the ceiling tile using four M3x30 pan-head screws, washers, and wing nuts.
- Feed the Ethernet cable through the hole and replace the ceiling tile.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port. Attach the EAP to the mounting bracket and rotate until it locks into place.
Option 2: Wall Mounting
Required components: M3x28 Plastic Wall Anchors (Qty.4), M3x20 Self-tapping Screws (Qty.4).
Steps:
- If the Ethernet cable feeds through the wall, position the mounting bracket below the cable hole. Mark four screw hole positions and drill four 6 mm diameter holes.
- Insert the plastic wall anchors into the drilled holes.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the wall using the self-tapping screws into the anchors. Ensure the bracket's shoulders are on the outside.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the EAP's Ethernet port.
- Attach the EAP to the mounting bracket and rotate until it locks into place.
3 Power Supply
The EAP can be powered via a power adapter or a PSE device (such as a PoE switch).
Option 1: Via PoE Switch (Compliant with 802.3at)
Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE switch (compliant with 802.3at) to the Ethernet port.
Option 2: Via Power Adapter
Plug one end of the provided power adapter into the EAP's power port and the other end into a standard electrical wall outlet.
Controller Mode (for large-scale networks)
Devices can be centrally configured and monitored via Omada Software Controller, Omada Hardware Controller (OC200/OC300), or Omada Cloud-Based Controller.
Diagram description: Shows network setups with a router, switch, and multiple EAPs, illustrating both controller modes and cloud-based management.
4 Software Configuration
A DHCP server (typically a router) is required to assign IP addresses. The EAP supports two configuration options:
Option 1: Standalone Mode
Recommended for small networks with a few EAPs.
Via Omada App:
- Download the TP-Link Omada App from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect your mobile device to the EAP using the default SSID (e.g., TP-Link_2.4GHz/5GHz_XXXXXX) found on the product label.
- Open the Omada App, wait for the EAP to appear on the Standalone APs page, and tap to configure. The app is for quick common settings; advanced settings require logging into the EAP's web page or a controller.
Via a Web Browser:
- Connect wirelessly using the default SSID.
- Launch a web browser and navigate to http://tplinkeap.net. Log in with username 'admin' and password 'admin'.
- Set up a new secure username and password, and modify wireless parameters.
Option 2: Controller Mode
Recommended for batch configuration and management.
Via Omada Software Controller:
- Download the Omada Software Controller from https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/omada-software-controller/.
- Install and run the controller, following the setup wizard.
- Launch the controller, complete the Quick Setup, and log in with your created credentials.
- Omada Cloud Portal: Enable Cloud Access on the controller, bind a TP-Link ID, and access via https://omada.tplinkcloud.com.
- Omada App: Manage the controller locally or remotely via the Omada App.
Via Omada Hardware Controller (OC200/OC300):
A hardware solution pre-installed with Omada Software Controller, requiring separate purchase.
Via Omada Cloud-Based Controller:
- Access https://omada.tplinkcloud.com and log in with your TP-Link ID.
- Add a controller and register for an Omada Cloud-Based Controller.
- Add devices using their serial numbers, ensuring they are online and in factory default state.
- Assign licenses to manage devices.
- Omada App: Manage the cloud-based controller via the Omada App.
