HaneSOM: Small Embedded System on Module

by DAB-Embedded

Overview

The HaneSOM is a small embedded compute module based on the ARM® Cortex®-A5 processor-based SAMA5D2 MPU. It integrates up to 1 Gbit of DDR2-SDRAM in a single package and features 32 Mbit of QSPI Flash, making the HaneSOM module suitable for small device integration.

Block Diagram

A block diagram illustrates the HaneSOM architecture. A 3.3V input powers a MIC2800 power controller. This controller interfaces with a Microchip SAMA5D2 System-In-Package (SIP) containing 1Gbit DDR2 RAM. The SIP also connects to a 32Mbit QSPI Flash memory and provides external pins for connectivity.

Interfaces

The HaneSOM offers a rich set of interfaces:

Details

Package and Pinout

The HaneSOM utilizes the SAMA5D2 SIP in a TFBGA289 package. For more details, refer to the Microchip DS60001484A datasheet, titled “SAMA5D2 System-In-Package (SIP) MPU with up to 1Gbit DDR2 SDRAM”.

A detailed pinout diagram of the TFBGA289 package for the ATSAMA5D27C-D1G MPU is provided. The diagram shows the central MPU chip surrounded by 88 pins, each labeled with its function. These functions include LCD data and control signals, RMII Ethernet, camera interfaces (D0-D11, VSYNC, HSYNC, MCK, PCK), UART, SPI, I2C, CAN-FD, USB (Host/Device), SDMMC, QSPI, power (VDD, GND), and system control signals (nRST, SHDN, FIQ, NWAIT). The diagram also indicates the placement of the GD25Q32 QSPI Flash and MIC2800 PMIC.

The package dimensions are 1.6mm on each side, with pins arranged in a grid with a pitch of 0.8mm, totaling 88 pins.

Memory

The HaneSOM module includes a Winbond W971GG6SB DDR2 chip integrated within the SAMA5D2 SIP. Additionally, a GigaDevice GD25Q32CNIGR QSPI Flash memory is installed on the board, connected to the QSPI1 port (IOSet 2).

Signal Pin
QSPI1_SCK PB5
QSPI1_CS PB6
QSPI1_IO0 PB7
QSPI1_IO1 PB8
QSPI1_IO2 PB9
QSPI1_IO3 PB10

Booting from QSPI Flash can be disabled by setting pin 86 of the HaneSOM to a low logic level (GND).

Power Supplies

The HaneSOM is supplied by an external 3.3V source and utilizes the Microchip MIC2800 PMIC to generate necessary voltages, including DDR2 voltage (1.8V), core power line (1.25V), and VDDFUSE (2.5V).

A schematic illustrating the power supply connections for the module is provided. It details the pin assignments for +3.3V power lines, Ground (GND), SDMMC0 power supply (1.8V or 3.3V), RTC power supply, and Camera ISC power (1.65V to 3.6V). It also notes that for the DAB-002002 order code, specific pins are connected together for single 3.3V operation.

IMPORTANT: The HaneSOM features internal resistors (R8-R10) that connect VDDSDHC, VDDISC, and VDDBU to 3.3V. If separate power lines with different voltage levels are required, customers must order the HaneSOM module with the "-NS" postfix.

System Control

The HaneSOM provides global system Reset (nRST) and Shutdown (SHDN) pins for the application board. The nRST pin is an output pin generated by the internal Power Management Unit (MIC2800) respecting power sequence timing and can be externally forced in case of a system crash. The SHDN pin is an output managed by the software application, controlling the Main 3.3V Supply ON or OFF.

Electrical Characteristics

Refer to the SAMA5D2 Data Sheet, document no. DS60001476, for detailed electrical characteristics.

Mechanics

The board dimensions are 20x20x2.5 mm.

Weight

The board weight is 3 grams.

Order Codes

The board is available with two order options:

Order code Description
DAB-002002 Module with 3.3V single operation
DAB-002002-NS Module with separate power domains for SD, camera and main system power supply.
