Assembly
You will need a screwdriver.
- Carefully remove all parts from the packaging and check if they are intact. If any parts are damaged, notify the seller from whom you purchased the item immediately.
- The sand filter should be placed on a firm, level base, preferably a concrete block. Position the sand filter so that the pipes and control valve are easily accessible for operation and maintenance. The sand filter must be installed vertically on the ground or on a wooden or concrete base to prevent it from accidentally tipping over. The weight of the assembled sand filter exceeds 18 kg. Mounting holes should have a diameter of 8 mm and be spaced 285 mm apart. Use two bolts with nuts up to 8 mm in diameter to secure the sand filter to the base.
- Load sand specifically designed for pools, or Flowclear™ Polysphere.
NOTE: Use high-quality pool sand without lime or clay: quartz sand #20, grade 0.45-0.85mm, one 8.5kg bag should be sufficient. If you do not use the recommended amount of filter sand, the filtering capacity will decrease, and the sand filter may fail, voiding the warranty.
NOTE: Sand or Flowclear™ Polysphere are not included.
NOTE: 28g (0.06 lb) of Flowclear™ Polysphere replaces 1kg (2.20 lb) of sand.
Connecting to the Pool
For connecting 38 mm (1.5 inch) hoses.
Step 1: Connect hoses to the pool and filter.
Step 2: Connect the garden hose (not included) for draining, backwashing, and rinsing.
Operation
Control Valve Description
WARNING: To avoid equipment damage and injury, disconnect the sand filter pump from the power outlet each time you switch the control valve mode. Changing the valve position while the pump is running can damage the control valve, potentially leading to injury or equipment damage.
How to use the control valve: Push down the control valve handle and turn it to the desired position (mode).
Control Valve Modes
The control valve is used to select six different filter operating modes: Filtering, Closed, Backwash, Rinse, Drain, and Circulate.
- Filtering: This mode is used for filtering pool water and is set for 99% of filter operations. Water is pumped through the sand filter, where it is cleaned, and returned to the pool.
- Closed: In this mode, the water flow between the filter and the pool is shut off.
- Backwash: This mode is used to clean the sand bed; water is pumped through the connecting pipe, then upwards through the sand, and discharged through port D.
- Rinse: This mode is used for initial startup, cleaning, and leveling the sand bed after backwashing; water is passed downwards through the sand, upwards through the connecting pipe, and discharged through port D.
- Drain: In this mode, water is drained from the pool; with this setting, water bypasses the filter, is pumped out, and exits through port C, not returning to the pool.
- Circulate: In this mode, water from the pool circulates, bypassing the sand filter; this mode is used when the filter is broken and debris is caught on the debris screens.
Air Release
Press the control valve handle and wait for water to flow from port "D" to release air.
NOTE: Repeat this procedure every time the pump is started after winterization, maintenance, and sand bed backwashing.
First-Time Use Guide
Backwashing and rinsing are performed to prepare the pump for first-time use and to rinse the sand.
CAUTION! DO NOT OPERATE THE SAND FILTER WITHOUT WATER.
- Press the control valve handle and turn it to the backwash function.
- Connect to the power source and run the filter for 3-5 minutes or until clear water flows.
- Turn off the sand filter and set the control valve to the rinse function.
- Run the sand filter for 1 minute. Water will circulate backwards through the sand filter and be discharged through port "D".
- Turn off the sand filter. Set the control valve to the closed position.
- Add water to the pool if necessary.
IMPORTANT: Water is discharged from the pool during this procedure and needs to be refilled. Turn off the sand filter immediately if the water level reaches the level of the pool's inlet and outlet valves.
- The sand filter is ready for operation. Switch the control valve to the filtering position.
NOTE: To prevent the risk of electric shock, dry the sand filter thoroughly.
Sand Filter Operation:
NOTE: The sand filter has started in filtering mode. Check if water is returning to the pool and note the filter pressure on the gauge. The recommended sand filter operating pressure is usually less than 0.25Bar (3.5PSI).
Sand Filter Maintenance
CAUTION! Before performing any maintenance, turn off and disconnect the sand filter from the power supply; otherwise, there is a serious risk of injury or even death. As debris accumulates in the sand filter, the pressure gauge readings will increase. When the gauge reads 0.25 bar (3.5 psi) or higher, or the water flow to the pool becomes too low, it is time to clean the sand. Follow the instructions previously provided in the "Backwashing and Rinsing" section to clean the sand bed.
NOTE: The pressure gauge is for maintenance purposes only, and its readings are for reference only; it should not be used as an accurate measuring instrument.
NOTE: We recommend rinsing the sand bed once a month or less, depending on the frequency of pool use. Do not rinse the sand too often.
Cleaning the Protective Filter
- Turn off the sand filter and set the control valve to the "Closed" position.
- Replace the debris collection screens with stoppers to prevent water leakage.
- Remove the filter lid by unscrewing it.
- Remove the protective filter and clean it of debris.
- Reinstall the protective filter. Ensure the protective filter's opening is properly aligned.
- Check if the O-ring is in place. Screw the filter lid back on.
- Remove the stoppers and install the debris collection screens.
NOTE: The protective filter needs regular cleaning. A dirty or clogged protective filter degrades the performance of the sand filter.
Lowering the Water Level or Draining the Pool
- Turn off the sand filter and set the control valve to the drain function.
- Disconnect the hose from channel "A" of the pool and channel "A" of the sand filter, and connect it to channel "D".
NOTE: Remember to replace the debris collection screens with stoppers to prevent water leakage.
- Connect the sand filter to the power supply to start the filter and drain the water from the pool.
WARNING! DO NOT OPERATE THE SAND FILTER WITHOUT WATER.
Winterizing
In areas where the ambient temperature drops to freezing point, the pool equipment should be prepared for winter to prevent damage. Frozen water will damage the sand filter, voiding the warranty.
- Perform backwashing of the sand filter.
- Drain the pool water according to the pool user manual.
- Disconnect the two hoses from the pool and the sand filter.
- Completely empty the sand from the tank and dry all components.
- Store the sand filter in a dry, child-safe place.
