Plug and Play Setup
Follow these steps to quickly set up your Powerline network.
-
Step 1: Connect the Adapter
Plug the adapter (TL-PA7017P) into a power outlet. Connect it to your router's LAN port using an Ethernet cable.
Diagram Description: A visual representation shows a router connected via an Ethernet cable to the adapter (TL-PA7017P), which is then plugged into a wall power outlet. The internet connection flows from the router to the adapter.
-
Step 2: Connect the Extender
Plug the extender (TL-WPA7617) into a power outlet on the same electrical circuit as the adapter. Wait until the extender's Powerline LED turns on.
? Tip: If the Powerline LED is off, please refer to FAQ > Q2.
-
Step 3: Enjoy Your Network
Connect your devices to the internet using the default SSID (network name) and password found on the label at the top of the extender.
Example Label Description: A label shows "SSID: TP-Link_XXXX", "SSID: TP-Link_XXXX_5G", and "Wireless Password: XXXXXXXXXX".
⚠️ Attention
- Use the product only in the upright direction.
- Plug powerline devices directly into wall outlets, not into power strips. Using a power strip can affect network performance or cause connection drops.
Diagram Description: Visuals compare plugging directly into a "Wall Outlet" (correct) versus using a "Power Strip" (incorrect).
Unify Your Wi-Fi Networks via WPS
Copy your router's SSID and password via WPS to create a single, unified Wi-Fi network throughout your home.
Note: If your router does not have a WPS button, you can manually change the extender's Wi-Fi settings using the tpPLC app, tpPLC Utility, or web interface.
- Plug the extender into a power outlet in the same room as your router. Wait until the extender's Wi-Fi LED turns on.
- Press your router's [WPS Button]. Within 2 minutes, press the extender's Wi-Fi button for 1 second. The extender's Wi-Fi LED will start blinking. When it stays on, Wi-Fi settings have been copied.
- Note: If Wi-Fi settings are not copied within 2 minutes, manually change the extender's Wi-Fi settings.
- Relocate the extender to your desired location and enjoy the internet using your router's SSID and password.
Diagram Description: A visual shows a "Wireless Router" with a "WPS" button and an "Extender". It illustrates pressing the router's WPS button, then the extender's Wi-Fi button within a 2-minute window, leading to the extender's Wi-Fi LED blinking and then turning on.
Create a Secure Powerline Network by Pairing
You can pair two devices at a time. It is recommended to plug the powerline devices near each other when pairing.
- Press the [Pair Button] on the adapter (TL-PA7017P) for 1 second. Its Power LED should start blinking.
- Note: If the Power LED does not blink, press the Pair button again.
- Within 2 minutes, press the extender's (TL-WPA7617) [Pair Button] for 1 second. Its Power LED should start blinking.
- When the extender's Powerline LED turns on, a powerline network has been successfully created.
Diagram Description: A visual shows the "Adapter TL-PA7017P" and "Extender TL-WPA7617" with their respective "Pair" buttons. It illustrates pressing the Pair button on the adapter, then the Pair button on the extender within a 2-minute window, leading to the Power LED blinking and then the Powerline LED turning on.
Sync Wi-Fi Settings to More Extenders
If you have additional extenders, simply plug them in and pair each one with the existing adapter to join the network. The Wi-Fi settings will automatically sync from the existing extender to the new ones.
