How a Rheem IKONIC Condensing Tankless Gas Water Heater Works:
Combustion gases are used to heat the water in the secondary heat exchanger before exiting the water heater. Acidic condensate exits the unit and should pass through a condensate neutralizer (sold separately).
The recirculation pump operates on either timer settings, custom schedule, or on-demand.
Process:
- A hot water faucet is opened, starting water flow.
- Cold water enters the unit, passes through the flow sensor, activating the ignitor. Water then flows into the secondary and primary heat exchangers.
- The ignitor sparks before gas is introduced.
- The gas valve opens, sending gas to the burners to heat the water.
- Heat from the flame transfers to water in the primary heat exchanger, then the secondary.
- Hot water exits to the faucet. When the faucet closes, the unit returns to a ready state. Hot Start Programming™ minimizes cold water bursts.
