The Source 60 & Source 180

The Source is BOLD's standard low-voltage transformer, available in 60VA and 180VA. It features an integrated day photocell and an astronomical clock. Settings can be adjusted via the control panel, offering four embedded modes: On/Off, Timer, Auto, and Astro Mode.

Modes:

  • On/Off: Turns the power supply on and keeps it on until another mode is selected or manually turned off.
  • Auto: Utilizes the built-in photocell. Lights turn on when the transformer detects it is getting dark and stay on for a set number of hours.
  • Timer: Allows scheduling of specific on and off times for your lights. The current time must be set correctly for this mode to function.
  • Astro: Turns the system and lights on and off according to local sunrise and sunset times. The location must be set correctly for this mode to function.

How to Use On/Off Mode

On Mode

On Mode means the lights are on and will remain on.

Steps:

  1. Press [MENU].
  2. Modes appear in boxes on the left side of the screen.
  3. Press [MENU] repeatedly to navigate to ON.
  4. The transformer will stay ON until another setting is selected.

Note: ON Mode overrides any other modes or timers.

Off Mode

Off Mode means the lights are off and will remain off.

Steps:

  1. Press [MENU].
  2. Modes appear in boxes on the left side of the screen.
  3. Press [MENU] repeatedly to navigate to OFF.
  4. The transformer will stay OFF until another setting is selected.

Note: OFF Mode overrides any other modes or timers.

How to Use Auto Mode

Auto Mode uses the built-in photocell to turn lights on at sunset and off at sunrise. The transformer must be placed where the photocell can accurately detect daylight.

Auto Mode

Auto Mode means the lights turn on and off at sunset and sunrise.

Steps:

  1. Press [MENU].
  2. Modes appear in boxes on the left side of the screen.
  3. Press [MENU] repeatedly to navigate to AUTO.
  4. The transformer turns on when the sun sets and off when the sun rises.

How to Set Up the Source 60 & 180

After installation, set the date, time, and location. This manual process ensures the transformer operates correctly based on the selected mode.

How to set up the date/time:

Note: Sets day, then month, then year, then time.

Steps:

  1. Press [MENU] and [DOWN] simultaneously.
  2. The first digit of the date starts flashing.
  3. Use the [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to adjust the digit.
  4. Press [ENTER] when the digit is correct.
  5. Repeat steps 3-4 for all date digits.
  6. Press [ENTER] once the date is set.
  7. The first digit of the time starts flashing.
  8. Use the [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to adjust the digit. (Transformers use a 24-hour clock).
  9. Press [ENTER] when the digit is correct.
  10. Repeat steps 8-9 for all time digits.
  11. Press [ENTER].
  12. Once numbers stop flashing, the date/time is set.

To set the location:

Steps:

  1. Press [UP] and [ENTER] simultaneously.
  2. The location number starts flashing.
  3. Use the [UP] and [DOWN] buttons to select the proper location code (refer to Location Codes page) based on your nearest major city.
  4. Press [ENTER].
  5. Once the number stops flashing, the location is set.

How to Use Timer Mode

Timer mode allows setting exact on and off times for your lights. The current time must be set accurately for this mode.

Timer Mode

Timer Mode means lights turn on and off at the exact times you set.

Steps:

  1. Press [MENU].
  2. Modes appear in boxes on the left side of the screen.
  3. Press [MENU] repeatedly to navigate to TIMER.
  4. Press [ENTER].
  5. START TIME appears; the first digits flash.
  6. Use [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to set the hour (24-hour clock).
  7. Press [ENTER].
  8. Use [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to set the first minute digit.
  9. Press [ENTER].
  10. Use [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to set the second minute digit.
  11. Press [ENTER].
  12. END TIME appears; the first digits flash.
  13. Repeat steps 6-11 for the end time.
  14. The transformer will now turn on at the set start time and off at the set end time.

Note: The transformer only turns on if the current time matches the set start time. If the set start time is 20:00 and the current time is 21:00, it will take 23 hours for the routine to run.

How to Use Astro Mode

Astro Mode turns lights on and off according to local sunrise and sunset times. The turn-on time can be adjusted by +/- one hour. The correct location code must be selected for accurate operation.

Astro Mode means lights turn on and off according to local sunrise and sunset times.

Steps:

  1. Press [MENU].
  2. Modes appear in boxes on the left side of the screen.
  3. Press [MENU] repeatedly to navigate to ASTRO.
  4. Press [ENTER].

Customize Light Settings (Optional)

Adjust lights to turn on/off slightly before or after sunrise/sunset.

To adjust ON time (before/after sunset):

  1. A [SUNSET ICON] appears in the bottom left corner.
  2. This indicates you are adjusting the ON time relative to sunset.
  3. A “- -” or “+ +” sign flashes in the digits area.
  4. Use [UP] or [DOWN] button to change digits to “- -” (before sunset) or “+ +” (after sunset).
  5. This adjusts how many minutes before/after sunset the lights turn on (capped at +/- 59 minutes). For more customization, use Timer Mode.
  6. Press [ENTER].
  7. Use [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to select the first digit for minutes.
  8. Press [ENTER].
  9. Use [UP] and [DOWN] arrows to select the second digit for minutes.
  10. Press [ENTER].

To adjust OFF time (before/after sunrise):

  1. A [SUNRISE ICON] appears in the bottom left corner.
  2. This indicates you are adjusting the OFF time relative to sunrise.
  3. A “- -” or “+ +” sign flashes in the digits area.
  4. Use [UP] or [DOWN] button to change digits to “- -” (before sunrise) or “+ +” (after sunrise).
  5. This adjusts how many minutes before/after sunrise the lights turn off (capped at +/- 59 minutes). For more customization, use Timer Mode.

Once digits stop flashing, your +/- time adjustment is set. If no adjustment is desired, ensure the values are set to 00.
