Operation
Functional Trainer Overview
The Functional Trainer consists of components such as pulleys, cables, handles, an arm adjustment mechanism, and a power display. Various configurations are available, including free-standing and floor-mounted units.
Figure 4 in the original document provides a labeled diagram of the Functional Trainer components.
Power Display
The Power Display provides information on resistance, repetitions, target repetitions, current power, peak power, and machine adjustments (exercise number, arm adjustment). It also features an eChip reader.
Rate monitoring systems may be inaccurate. Over-exercising can lead to serious injury or death. Consult a physician before starting any exercise program.
Figure 5 in the original document shows the Power Display layout.
Display Features
- Resistance: Displays current resistance or "OFF" (sleep mode). Low battery is indicated by "Lo-bA".
- Set or Repetitions: Shows current set count (1-9) or repetition count (0-99). Can be reset by pressing both thumb buttons.
- Target Reps: Displays previous set's resistance or "Pr." for Power Test sets.
- Current Power / Percent of Peak Power: Shows power output for the current rep, or resistance for maximum power.
- Peak Power: Displays the highest power achieved during the workout.
- Machine Adjustment: Used with eChip to input Exercise Number and Arm Adjustment. Adjustments are made immediately after eChip insertion before the third repetition.
- eChip Reader: Slot for inserting the Keiser eChip.
- eChip: Stores workout data, up to 24 equipment models and 240 workout sets. Enables recall and setup of equipment.
Connecting the Cable Accessory
Accessories connect via the Cable Link. Unscrew the nut clockwise, hook the accessory ring, and screw the nut counter-clockwise until tight. Always ensure the Cable Link is closed before use.
Use only Keiser accessories and ensure the Cable Link is closed to avoid injury.
Figure 6 in the original document illustrates connecting the cable accessory.
Arm Adjustment
There are 12 Arm position settings. To adjust, grasp the Arm, pull out the spring-loaded Adjustment Knob, move the Arm to the desired position, and release the knob. Ensure the knob is fully engaged.
Ensure the Adjustment Knob is fully engaged before use.
Figure 7 in the original document shows the Arm Adjustment mechanism.
Set the Resistance
Use the "+" Thumb Button to increase resistance and the "-" Thumb Button to decrease resistance. Press both buttons simultaneously to clear/reset data on the Power Display.
Never adjust resistance during exercise. Return the cable to the start position before making adjustments.
Figure 8 in the original document shows the Thumb Button functions.
Power Test
The Power Test (KEISER Six-Rep Test) determines the resistance for maximum power. It consists of two sets: Set 1 (low resistance, high speed) and Set 2 (high resistance, high speed). Perform repetitions at maximum speed. The test results indicate the optimal resistance setting.
Perform the Power Test only with proper instruction and after a warm-up. Maintain good form and control.
Troubleshooting tips for "Er" codes are provided in the original document.
Exercise Guideline
Consult a physician before starting any exercise program. Key guidelines include:
- Warm-up: Prepare muscles to prevent injury.
- Control Resistance: Use resistance suitable for a full range of motion.
- Breathe: Maintain a steady breathing pace; avoid holding breath.
- Maintain Form and Control: Ensure steady/fluid motion and engage abdominal muscles for balance and spinal protection.
Proper warm-up is required. Maintain good form and control; stop if pain occurs.
Exercises
The Functional Trainer supports a complete body workout. Sample exercises for Core, Upper Body, and Lower Body include:
- Core: Explosive Hip Flexion, Leaning Ab Rotation, Standing Ab Rotation
- Upper Body: Straight Punch, Rear Delt Raise, Single Arm X Snatch
- Lower Body: Jump Squat, Running in Place, Lateral Lunge
Figure 9 in the original document displays these sample exercise positions.
Never make adjustments to resistance during exercise. Return the cable to the start position before adjustments.

- Annually: Refer to "Annual Maintenance" section. Replace batteries when "Lo-bA" is displayed.
Use only mild, neutral, non-caustic detergent for cleaning. Avoid household or industrial cleaners.
Information regarding Keiser Air Compressor maintenance is available separately.
Battery Replacement
Replace batteries when the "Lo-bA" signal appears on the Power Display. Use two D cell alkaline batteries and one CR2032 lithium coin cell battery (permanently attached).
Do not operate equipment during battery replacement. Do not dispose of batteries in fire or open them.
Figure 10 in the original document illustrates the battery replacement procedure.
Replace batteries with the same type and number. Recycle batteries according to local procedures.
Annual Maintenance
Disconnect from air supply and release all air before performing maintenance.
Annual maintenance includes cleaning interior/exterior, inspecting cables for wear, replacing the muffler if discolored, lubricating the cylinder rod, and replacing the air filter if dirty.
Figure 11 in the original document details the annual maintenance steps.
