Kemo M204 Power Control 230V 16A Heater Regulator
Product Overview
The Kemo M204 is a power control module designed for regulating ohmic loads such as heaters. It operates by pulsing the load on and off at the zero crossing of the AC waveform, providing smooth regulation without the need for additional interference suppression. This method is suitable for heating elements but not for motors or lamps, which may experience sputtering or flickering.
Connection Example
The module features connections for 230V AC input and the load. A 16A fuse is recommended in series with the load for protection. A potentiometer is used for adjusting the power output. The module includes an LED indicator for operation. Grounding of the metal housing is possible if required.
Diagram Description: The connection diagram illustrates the M204 module with terminals for 230V AC input and the load. It shows a 16A fuse in series with the load, a potentiometer connected via its axis and nut to a front panel, and an optional grounding connection. The module itself is labeled with "M204 POWER CONTROL 230V" and has an integrated LED.
Control Curve Examples
The control curve examples demonstrate how the output power is regulated by adjusting the potentiometer. The module switches the load on and off in pulses at the zero crossing. The duration of these pulses determines the average power delivered.
Diagram Description: The diagrams show three states: "Low power" (short pulses), "Reduced power" (medium pulses), and "Full power" (long pulses or continuous operation). The potentiometer's position dictates the length of the 'on' phase of the pulse, thereby controlling the heat output.
Intended Use
For the regulation of heaters operating at 220 - 240 V/AC.
Circuit Description
The module switches the connected heating element on and off at the phase zero crossing, controlled by the potentiometer. The switching frequency is approximately 0.8 Hz. The length of the 'on' phases, and thus the heating power, is adjusted by the potentiometer. A setting to the left results in short 'on' phases and low power, while a setting further to the right results in longer 'on' phases and higher power.
Assembly Instructions
The module may heat up during operation depending on the load and requires mounting in a well-ventilated area. If the metal casing exceeds 60°C, additional cooling (heat sink or fan) may be necessary. Installation must be performed by a qualified person (e.g., an electrician) in accordance with VDE safety regulations. Ensure that live contacts are not touched. The potentiometer is insulated on the operating axis and fastening thread; installation should allow contact only with the insulated axis. A fuse must be installed in series as per the diagram. Cables connected to the module should be secured against unintentional pulling out (strain relief). If grounding the case is required, scrape off paint from a mounting hole and connect a grounding cable.
Incorrect connection, short circuits, overloads, excessive voltage (> 240 V/AC), or insufficient ventilation can immediately destroy the module. As each module is tested before dispatch, replacement due to user error is not possible.
