Sunbeam's Safety Precautions

Read and save all instructions. Always operate the kettle on a flat, level surface. Do not operate unless the element is fully immersed.

Warning: Boiling water can scald. Keep hot kettles away from children. Do not leave the power cord where children can reach it.

  • Boiling water may be ejected if overfilled.
  • Do not open the lid while water is boiling.
  • Do not operate the kettle without water.
  • Always turn the power off and unplug the cord when the kettle is NOT in use.
  • Your kettle must only be used with the power base supplied.
  • Do not move the kettle while switched on.
  • Avoid spillage on the connector power base.

Sunbeam prioritizes safety in product design. Users must also exercise care when using electrical appliances.

  • Always turn the power off at the power outlet before inserting or removing a plug. Remove by grasping the plug, not the cord.
  • Turn the power off and remove the plug when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning.
  • Use of extension cords requires checking and testing by a qualified technician.
  • Always use the appliance from a power outlet matching the voltage marked on the appliance (A.C. only).
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a person responsible for their safety.

  • Accessible surface temperatures may be high during operation. The heating element surface may retain heat after use.
  • Never leave an appliance unattended while in use.
  • Do not use an appliance for any purpose other than its intended use. Misuse may lead to injury.
  • Do not place the appliance on or near hot gas flames, electric elements, or heated ovens.
  • Do not place on top of any other appliance.
  • Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a table or bench top, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not operate any electrical appliance with a damaged cord or after it has been damaged. Return to an authorized service centre for examination or repair.
  • For additional protection, Sunbeam recommends the use of a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA.
  • Do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids unless recommended.

Features of your Kettle

Diagram Description: The kettle features are numbered as follows:

  • 1. Spout: For pouring water.
  • 2. Lid: Covers the kettle opening.
  • 3. Push button for lid release: Opens the lid.
  • 4. Handle: For safely lifting and holding the kettle.
  • 5. Water level window: Shows the amount of water inside.
  • 6. On/Off switch: Controls the kettle's power.
  • 7. 360° rotation power base with cord storage: Allows the kettle to be placed on the base from any angle and stores excess cord.

Using your Kettle

Before First Use: Clean the kettle by filling it to the maximum level, boiling, and discarding the water.

To Use:

  1. Remove the kettle from the power base. Push the lid release button or fill through the pouring spout.
  2. Fill with the desired amount of water, between the minimum and maximum marks. Filling too little may cause the kettle to switch off before boiling. Do not overfill, as water may spill from the spout when boiling.
  3. Close the lid firmly until it locks.
  4. Place the kettle on the power base and plug into a 230-240v power outlet. Turn the power ON.
  5. Press the ON/OFF switch downwards. The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled.

Notes: Ensure the ON/OFF switch is clear and the lid is firmly closed. The kettle will not turn off if the switch is obstructed or the lid is open. Do not remove the kettle from the power base while heating.

Pouring: Lift the kettle from the power base and pour carefully. Boiling water can scald.

Storage: The kettle can be stored on the power base. It will not re-boil until the ON/OFF switch is pressed again.

After Use: Ensure power is turned off at the outlet when not in use.

Boil-Dry Protection: If the kettle operates without water, boil-dry protection will automatically switch it off. Allow the kettle to cool before refilling with cold water and re-boiling.

Cord Storage: Excess cord can be stored by winding it around the storage facility underneath the power base.

Sunbeam's 3-Way Safety System

This system ensures your kettle will:

  1. Automatically switch off after boiling: For convenience, safety, and energy efficiency.
  2. Cut-out for boil-dry protection: If operated without water, it automatically cuts out to prevent damage to the element. Allow to cool before refilling and re-boiling.
  3. Shut-down in case of overheating: In the event of overheating, the kettle automatically shuts down to prevent further damage. If this occurs, take the kettle to a Sunbeam Service Centre or Appointed Service Agent.

Care and Cleaning

Always disconnect the kettle from the power outlet before cleaning. Never immerse the kettle switch area, cord, or power base in water.

Descale Your Kettle Regularly

Mineral deposits from tap water can build up (lime scale), appearing white, coloured, or rusty. This can discolour the water gauge, trigger boil-dry cut-out, or reduce the kettle's life. Regular descaling is important, even in soft water areas.

Note: Failure to descale regularly may be considered negligent handling, and faults caused by mineral build-up are not covered by the Sunbeam 12 Month Guarantee.

To remove build-up:

  • Use Sunbeam Liquid Descaler (available from Sunbeam Appointed Service Agents).
  • Alternatively:
  • 1. Fill the kettle with 1 cup of white vinegar and the remainder with water. Allow to stand overnight. DO NOT BOIL.
  • 2. Empty the solution. Rub any remaining stains inside the spout with a damp cloth. Fill the kettle with clean water, bring to boil, and discard. Repeat if necessary.

To Clean the Kettle Exterior

Wipe the plastic surface with a damp cloth and polish with a soft dry cloth. Caution: Do not use alkaline, chemical, or abrasive cleaners. Use a soft cloth and mild detergent.

To Clean the Mesh Filter

Caution: Switch off, empty the kettle, and allow it to cool completely. Unplug the power base. Never operate the kettle without the filter.

  • Open the lid. Grasp the top of the mesh filter and pull upwards to remove.
  • Wash in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly before replacing.

Cleaning the Concealed Heating Element

This kettle has a non-corrosive stainless steel heating element. Scale build-up may appear as discolouration, not rust. Clean with a scourer (e.g., Scotchbrite) and a suitable abrasive cleaning cream. Rinse thoroughly with tap water before use.
