01 CHECKING THE COMPONENTS
Components include:

02 PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Top side
The top panel features several controls:
- ? (Multi) Button: In Standby mode, press to turn on the soundbar. Press to switch the audio source.
- + (Volume) Button: Adjusts the volume.
- ? (Microphone) Button: Press to turn the microphone on or off. When off, the LED indicator is red. Press and hold for 3 seconds or longer to enter BT PAIRING mode.
Display: Shows the status or current mode (e.g., TV ARC, HDMI, Wi-Fi, BT, D.IN).
Notes:
- It may take 4-5 seconds for sound to start after turning on the soundbar.
- If audio plays from both the TV and soundbar, set the TV's Audio Settings to 'External Speaker' instead of 'TV Speaker'.
03 USING THE REMOTE CONTROL
How to use the Remote Control
Install Batteries: Slide the battery cover, insert 2 AAA batteries (1.5V), and slide the cover back on.
- ? (POWER) Button: Turns the soundbar on or off. The soundbar automatically turns off after 18 minutes of no audio signal input in certain modes (Power saving mode).
- ? (Source) Button: Selects the connected device. Press and hold for 5 seconds (while soundbar is in Standby mode) to turn voice feedback on/off (displays 'AUI OFF' or 'AUI ON').
- ? (Bluetooth connection) Button: Puts the soundbar into Bluetooth pairing mode, displaying 'BT PAIRING'.
Remote Control Functions
- ?️?️?️ (Up/Down/Left/Right Buttons): For fine adjustments. Use Right/Left to skip songs. Hold the Up button for 5 seconds while powered off to perform 'ID SET' (for reconnecting subwoofer/surround speakers).
- ▶️⏸️ (Play/Pause) Button: Starts or pauses playback.
- ? (Mute) Button: Mutes/unmutes the soundbar.
- ? (Sound mode) Button: Selects sound modes: Standard, Surround, Game Pro, or Adaptive Sound.
- ℹ️ (Info) Button: Displays codec information or current status (e.g., connected device in BT mode).
- ? (Woofer (bass) Level) Buttons: Adjusts woofer (bass) levels.
- ? (Volume) Buttons: Adjusts overall volume. Press the Volume button again to unmute.
Channel Level Adjustment
Adjust the volume of individual speakers (Center, Side, Wide, Front Top, Rear, Rear Top, Rear Side) using the Up/Down buttons within the range of -6 to +6.
Sound Control
Select features like SpaceFit Sound Pro, AVA Pro, Voice Enhance, Night mode, Sound Grouping, Private Rear, Moderate Bass, Virtual. Use Up/Down buttons to select options.
Tone Control
Adjust treble and bass levels using the TREBLE or BASS options in Sound Control. Adjust within -6 to +6. Bass adjustments also affect woofer levels. This feature is available in all modes except Standard.
Setting the ⚙️ (Sound Control)
- SpaceFit Sound Pro: Analyzes listening space via soundbar microphone for optimal audio quality. Runs automatically.
- AVA (Active Voice Amplifier) Pro: Analyzes external noise for clear voice quality. No data is collected.
- Voice Enhance: Improves dialogue quality in videos and TV shows.
- Night Mode: Optimizes nighttime listening by lowering volume while keeping dialog clear.
- Sound Grouping: Full sound from soundbar and rear speakers, ideal for large spaces. Menu available when rear speakers are first connected. Sound comes from specific speakers, not all.
- Private Rear: Sends audio only to rear speakers for undisturbed listening. No sound from soundbar or subwoofer. Only front channels of rear speakers produce sound. Turns off if soundbar is off or rear speaker connection is lost. Only available when rear speakers are connected.
- Sync: Adjusts audio delay (0-300ms) if video and audio are out of sync. Supported in certain functions.
- Surround speaker settings: May vary based on compatible surround speakers.
- Virtual: Provides extended sound effects for Dolby/DTS content when Surround mode is on. Can be turned On/Off.
- Moderate Bass: When On, subwoofer is muted and bass comes from soundbar. When Off, subwoofer is active.
- Frequency Adjustment: Press and hold (Sound Control) for 5 seconds. Select frequency (150Hz, 300Hz, etc.) and adjust levels (-6 to +6) using Up/Down buttons. Works only in Standard mode.
Output specifications for each sound mode
Detailed tables show output specifications for different sound modes (Standard, Surround Game Pro, Adaptive Sound) based on input channels and soundbar models (HW-Q900F, HW-Q800F, HW-Q990F, HW-Q930F) under various connection scenarios (subwoofer only, subwoofer and surround speaker together, subwoofer and rear speaker together).
Note: Surround speakers do not produce sound for 2-channel output in Standard mode. Change to Surround mode for surround speaker sound.
04 CONNECTING THE SOUNDBAR TO OTHER UNITS
Connecting the Power and Devices
Connect the subwoofer, surround speakers, and soundbar to an electrical outlet in the following order:
- Connect the power cord to the subwoofer.
- Connect the power cords to the left and right surround speakers.
- Connect the power cord to the soundbar.
Notes:
- For power supply information, check the product label.
- Grip plugs firmly when disconnecting power cords.
- Once all devices are connected, plug them into the electrical outlet.
- Surround speakers may not be included depending on the model.
Manually Connecting the Subwoofer and Surround Speakers
Before connecting: Ensure soundbar, subwoofer, and surround speakers are powered on and connected to an outlet.
- Press and hold the 'ID SET' button on the rear of the subwoofer and surround speakers for 5 seconds or longer. The red indicator turns off, and the blue indicator blinks rapidly.
- Press and hold the Up button on the Remote Control for 5 seconds. The 'ID SET' message appears and disappears. The soundbar will power on automatically.
After successful connection, the LINK LED indicator turns solid blue.
Status of rear indicator in subwoofer and surround speakers

Note: Surround speakers may not be included depending on the product model.
To reset the Tx module: Turn off soundbar, press and hold Left button on remote for 5 seconds, then follow manual connection steps.
Speaker layout guide
Recommended speaker layout: Diagrams show optimal placement for subwoofer and surround speakers (Left/Right) for rear and front layouts, including angles (0°, 135°, 150°).
Caution: Wireless antennas are built into speakers. Keep away from water/moisture. Avoid obstacles around speakers for optimal sound. Surround speakers may not be included.
Recommended speaker layout in Surround Speaker mode
Adjust surround speakers for optimal surround sound. To enable, select Surround Speaker mode on the remote control: ( Sound Control → Surround Speaker → Up/Down → Front / Rear).
Diagrams illustrate rear layout and front layouts for HW-Q990F and HW-Q930F models.
05 CONNECTING TO A TV
Connect to a TV that supports HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)
Caution: HDMI cable signal takes priority over optical. Connect to the ARC port. Use HDMI cables certified by HDMI.org.
Diagram: Shows TV connected to soundbar via HDMI cable (included) to the 'HDMI IN (eARC) or (ARC)' port on the TV and 'HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC)' port on the soundbar.
- Turn off soundbar and TV. Connect HDMI cable.
- Turn on soundbar and TV.
- 'TV ARC' will appear on the display, and TV audio will play through the soundbar.
Troubleshooting:
- If no sound, press the ? (Multi) button or ? (Source) button to switch to 'TV ARC' mode.
- For eARC, enable 'eARC' function in TV menu (e.g., Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Expert Settings → HDMI-eARC Mode (Auto)).
- If 'TV ARC' doesn't appear, check HDMI cable connection.
- TV remote volume buttons can control soundbar volume.
Connecting Using an Optical Cable
Pre-connection Checklist: HDMI signal takes priority if both are connected. Remove cap from optical cable before use.
Diagram: Shows TV's 'OPTICAL OUT' connected to soundbar's 'DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL)' via an optical cable (sold separately).
- Turn off TV and soundbar. Connect optical cable.
- Turn on soundbar and TV.
- Press ? (Multi) or ? (Source) button to switch to 'D.IN' mode.
- TV sound will play through the soundbar.
Connecting to Bluetooth
Connect your Samsung TV to the soundbar via Bluetooth for stereo sound without cables. Only one TV can connect at a time. Ensure TV supports Bluetooth.
Connecting for the first time:
- Press the ? (Pair) button on the remote to open 'BT PAIRING' mode. (Alternatively, press and hold ? (Microphone) on soundbar top for 3 seconds until 'BT PAIRING' displays.)
- Open Bluetooth menu on TV and select 'Soundbar Q-series'. 'Need Pairing' or 'Paired' will appear. Establish connection.
- '[TV name] → BT' will appear on the soundbar display. Enjoy TV audio.
Use 'BT READY' mode for subsequent reconnections.
If Device Fails to Connect: Delete previous 'Soundbar Q-series' entry from TV's speaker list and repeat connection steps.
Disconnecting: Switch to any mode other than BT using ? (Multi) or ? (Source) button.
BT READY vs BT PAIRING: BT READY connects previously paired devices; BT PAIRING connects new devices.
Precautions: Position device within 1 meter. Use PIN <0000> if prompted. Soundbar auto-off after 18 mins inactivity. Avoid radio interference (microwaves, Wi-Fi routers). Keep devices close. Bluetooth connection may be lost if out of range or in areas with weak signal. Avoid contact with transceiver or metal furniture. May cause electrical interference.
Connecting via Wi-Fi (Wireless Network)
Wi-Fi connection is available on Samsung TVs. Ensure router is on and TV is connected. Connect soundbar and TV to the same Wi-Fi network. Contact ISP if using DFS channel. Refer to TV manual for menu variations.
Steps:
- Connect soundbar to wireless router first (see page 18).
- On TV Sound menu, change input source to soundbar (e.g., Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output → Soundbar Q-series (Wi-Fi)).
Notes: Wi-Fi Dolby Atmos is available on some TVs/soundbars. Press and hold CH LEVEL for 30 seconds to activate/deactivate Wi-Fi.
Using the Q-Symphony Feature
When connecting to a Samsung TV supporting Q-Symphony, sound plays from both soundbar and TV simultaneously for richer audio. Q-Symphony menu appears in TV settings (e.g., Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output).
Note: Works with supported codecs, via HDMI, optical, or Wi-Fi. Check Wi-Fi network/frequency. Available on some Samsung TVs/soundbars.
Using SpaceFit Sound Pro
Analyzes listening space via soundbar microphone for optimal audio quality. Runs automatically.
Method 1 (Soundbar): Use Remote Control: Press (Sound Control) → Up button to turn ON ('ON' displays). Press Down button to turn OFF ('OFF' displays).
Method 2 (TV): Enable 'Adaptive Sound+' in TV menu (e.g., Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → General → AI Mode Settings → Adaptive Sound+). Soundbar mode changes to Adaptive Sound+.
Note: Works on some Samsung TVs connected to a soundbar.
06 CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL DEVICE
Connecting via HDMI Cable
Pre-connection Checklist: Turn off secondary audio settings. Check content for Dolby Atmos®/DTS:X support. Use appropriate HDMI cable (Ultra High Speed for HW-Q990F/Q900F; Premium High Speed for HW-Q930F/Q800F). Check TV/device specs for UHD signals.
Diagram: Shows external device's HDMI OUT connected to soundbar's HDMI port, and TV's HDMI IN connected to soundbar's HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port.
- Connect external device HDMI OUT to soundbar HDMI port.
- Connect TV HDMI IN to soundbar HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port.
- Turn on soundbar, TV, and external device.
- Press ? (Multi) or ? (Source) to select HDMI or HDMI1/HDMI2 mode.
- Selected mode appears on display, and audio plays.
Notes:
- For Dolby Atmos®/DTS:X, see page 7. 'DOLBY ATMOS' or 'DTS:X' displays when active.
- For BD players, set audio output to 'Bitstream (Unprocessed)' in settings.
UHD signal support specifications (3840 x 2160p): Tables detail supported frame rates, color depths, and color spaces (RGB 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, YCbCr 4:2:0) for HW-Q990F/HW-Q900F and HW-Q930F/HW-Q800F models.
Note: Supported specifications may vary based on the connected device or usage conditions.
Connecting using an Optical Cable
Diagram: Shows BD/DVD player/set-top box/game console's OPTICAL OUT connected to soundbar's DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) via an optical cable (sold separately).
- Use an optical cable to connect the soundbar's DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port to the external device's OPTICAL OUT port.
- Turn on the soundbar and external device.
- Select D.IN mode using ? (Multi) or ? (Source) button.
- Soundbar will play audio from the external device.
07 CONNECTING A MOBILE DEVICE
Connecting to Bluetooth
Connect your mobile device to the soundbar via Bluetooth for stereo sound. The soundbar turns on if connecting a previously paired device while off.
Connecting for the first time:
- Position device within 1 meter (3.28 ft).
- Press ? (Pair) button on remote to open 'BT PAIRING' mode. (Alternatively, press and hold ? (Microphone) on soundbar top for 3 seconds until 'BT PAIRING' displays.)
- Select 'Soundbar Q-series' from the device's list. '[Mobile device name] → BT' will appear on the soundbar display.
- Enjoy music. Use 'BT READY' mode for reconnections.
If Device Fails to Connect: Delete previous 'Soundbar Q-series' entry from mobile device's speaker list and repeat steps.
Connecting via Wi-Fi (Wireless Network)
For SmartThings app functionality, a specific OS version is required. Download the SmartThings app.
Installing app: Download from App store or Play store, or scan QR code.
Registering a device: Run SmartThings app, follow instructions to register product. Can also scan QR code on soundbar.
If device isn't found: Connect mobile device via Bluetooth, tap 'Connected Devices', slide to select soundbar, then tap 'Register device to Samsung account'.
Controlling the Soundbar with SmartThings
Open SmartThings app, select registered soundbar to adjust settings (Volume, Sound Mode, Advanced Sound Settings). Users can share control.
To change Wi-Fi network: In SmartThings app, tap soundbar card → Device settings → Network status → Change Wi-Fi network.
Using Group Play
Register soundbar to SmartThings app. Available on Samsung TV models from 2024. Connect two or more devices to the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
Configuring Group Play: Run SmartThings app, register soundbar, tap soundbar card → Create Group. Press ? (Multi) on soundbar to set source to Wi-Fi. Disconnect from TV if connected via Wi-Fi. Select devices and tap Apply. Recommend no more than 4 devices. Audio plays through host device only. Group is deleted if host connects to TV.
Disabling Group Play: Tap audio device card → Edit Group → Turn off Group Play.
Using the SmartThings Hub
Connects to IoT devices (lights, plugs, sensors) requiring a SmartThings Hub. Requires soundbar registration to SmartThings app. Supported by HW-Q990F/Q900F models.
Registering IoT device: Refer to Wi-Fi connection steps. Tap soundbar card → SmartThings Hub → Using SmartThings Hub → Set up. Add IoT device via '+' on Home screen.
Deleting SmartThings Hub: Tap soundbar card → SmartThings Hub → Removing SmartThings Hub.
Connecting via Apple AirPlay
Feature may not be available in all countries. Requires latest iOS/iPadOS/macOS. Register device with Samsung SmartThings app. Ensure soundbar and Apple device are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Enjoy music, podcasts, and audio from Apple devices. Select AirPlay icon from app or Control Center, then select the Soundbar.
Using Tap Sound
Tap the soundbar with your mobile device (Samsung Android 8.1+) to play audio. A Bluetooth connection is established.
Configuring Tap Sound: In SmartThings app, go to Settings → Tap View, Tap Sound → On.
Note: Tap Sound may not work in Sleep mode or near devices causing radio interference.
Usage: Turn on Tap Sound in mobile device settings. Tap soundbar and select 'Start now'. Avoid tapping sharp corners; use a case. Lightly tap the wide area on top. Update SmartThings app.
08 INSTALLING THE SOUNDBAR ON A WALL
Precautions when installing
- Mount only on a vertical wall.
- Avoid areas with high temperatures or humidity.
- Install on a sturdy wall capable of supporting weight. Reinforce if necessary.
- Use appropriate screws/anchors for the wall type (Gypsum board/steel/wood). Install screws directly into the wall if possible.
- Turn off power and disconnect soundbar before mounting.
- Connect all external device cables before mounting.
Wall Mount Components
Components include: Wall-mounting Guide (x2), Holder Screw (x2), Screw (x2), Wall-mounting Bracket (x2).
Installation Steps
- Attach Wall-mounting Guide parallel to the wall. If TV is wall-mounted, install soundbar at least 5 cm from TV bottom.
- Align Guide's center line with TV center (or installation area center) and secure with tape.
- Mark the center of the A-TYPE hole and remove the Guide.
- Drill a hole at the marked spot.
- Fasten the Screw for mounting on wall into the marked spot using Holder screws.
- Install 2 Wall-mounting Brackets to the bottom of the soundbar using 2 screws. Ensure hanger part is behind the soundbar rear.
- Hang the soundbar on the Holder Screws using the Wall-mounting Brackets. Insert Holder Screws into the bottom holes of the brackets and secure.
Installing the Surround Speakers on a Wall
Wall mounts must be purchased separately. Samsung does not sell them.
Notes for mounting: Wall must support at least 8 kg. Hole size: fits 1/4 - 20 UNC screw (6.35 mm Ø, 18 mm length). Quantity: Left 1 / Right 1.
Diagrams: Show Left and Right speaker mounting positions.
Caution: Check wall sturdiness. Reinforce if needed. Samsung is not responsible for damage due to improper installation. Do not install speakers sideways or upside down.
09 INSTALLING THE SOUNDBAR ON TOP OF THE TV STAND
Parts
- Rubber Foot (x4)
Installation Steps
- Attach rubber feet to the bottom of the soundbar before placing it on the TV stand. Ensure feet do not extend beyond the stand's width.
- Align the center of the TV with the center of the soundbar and place the soundbar on the TV stand.
Ensure the microphone is not blocked for proper voice recognition.
Notes:
- Place soundbar on a flat, solid surface.
- If too close to the TV, voice recognition and audio may be affected.
- Actual product appearance may vary.
- Place soundbar at least 2 cm away from the TV for optimal microphone performance.
10 SOFTWARE UPDATE
Automatic update
If connected to the internet, the soundbar updates automatically, even when turned off. Ensure continuous internet connection.
USB update
Firmware updates can be performed via USB for performance enhancements.
- Go to Samsung website (www.samsung.com) → Customer Support → search for soundbar model name.
- Download the Upgrade File (USB Type).
- Unzip the file into a folder with the same name.
- Save the folder to a USB thumb drive and connect to the soundbar's SERVICE port.
- Turn on the soundbar. 'UPDATE' will appear within 3 minutes, and the update will begin.
Notes: Do not turn off power or disconnect USB during update. If 'UPDATE' doesn't show, reconnect power. Update may not run if latest firmware is installed or due to USB drive type.
Security updates information
Security updates strengthen device security. Visit https://security.samsungtv.com for more information.
Reset
While the soundbar is turned on, press both + and - (Volume) buttons for 5 seconds or longer. 'INIT' will appear, and the soundbar will reset.
Caution: This resets all settings. Reset only when needed.
11 TROUBLESHOOTING
When the power doesn't turn on
- Check if the power cord is securely connected.
When some functions aren't working properly
- Disconnect and reconnect the power cord.
- Turn the connected external device off and on.
- If there is no signal input, the soundbar will automatically turn off. Turn on the power.
If the remote control isn't working properly
- Bring the remote closer to the soundbar and point directly at it.
- Replace batteries.
When the soundbar indicator light stays red
- The microphone is turned off. It turns off when the microphone is turned on.
If there is no sound coming from the soundbar
- Check volume level and mute status.
- Adjust volume on connected external devices.
- Set TV sound output to Soundbar (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output → Select Soundbar).
- Check cable connections; disconnect and reconnect.
- Disconnect power, reconnect, and turn on.
- Reset the soundbar (see page 24).
If there is no sound from the subwoofer or surround speakers
- Check if the rear LED indicator is blue. If red or blinking blue, reconnect speakers (see page 9).
- Ensure no objects are between the soundbar and subwoofer.
- Nearby devices emitting radio frequency signals may interrupt connection; keep speakers away from them.
- Disconnect and reconnect the power plug.
If the subwoofer or surround speaker emits noise or a stuttering sound
- Ensure no objects are between the soundbar and subwoofer.
- Place subwoofer/surround speakers closer to the soundbar if too far away.
- Avoid placing the soundbar near electronic devices causing radio interference (e.g., wireless router).
- Change TV network connection to wired if possible.
When the subwoofer sound is low
- Adjust subwoofer level using the Woofer Level button on the remote.
- Bring the subwoofer closer.
When the TV can't connect to the HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC)
- Ensure HDMI cable is securely connected to ARC/eARC port (see page 12).
- Disconnect other devices connected to the TV; connect only the soundbar.
- Enable HDMI-CEC in TV menu (e.g., Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Connection → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) ON).
- Enable eARC function in TV menu if connecting via eARC.
There is no audio when the TV is connected in HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) mode
- Change TV's audio output to PCM or Dolby Digital (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Expert settings → Digital Output Audio Format).
When a Bluetooth connection can't be established
- For new devices, switch to BT PAIRING (use ? (Pair) button or hold ? (Microphone) for 3 seconds).
- If soundbar is connected to another device, disconnect that device first.
- Remove speaker from the Bluetooth device's list and reconnect.
- Ensure TV CONNECT feature is on (select ON-TV CONNECT using Left button on remote if OFF-TV CONNECT is displayed).
- Disconnect and reconnect power.
- Reset the soundbar (see page 24).
When the audio stutters due to a weak Bluetooth connection
- Avoid placing near electronic devices causing interference (microwaves, routers).
- Move the connected device closer if it's too far.
- Avoid body contact with transceiver or placing soundbar on metal furniture.
When a Wi-Fi connection can't be established
- Check if the wireless router is on. Turn router off and on again.
- If Wi-Fi signal is weak, move router closer or to an unobstructed location.
- Reconfigure network settings if a new router is installed (see page 19).
- Soundbar does not support Wi-Fi 6.
When the TV is powered on, but the soundbar doesn't turn on together with it
- If turning off soundbar first, Auto Power Link turns off. Power off the TV first.
The AVA Pro feature can't be used in the following cases.
- When the microphone is turned off.
My TV and soundbar are connected, but when I switch to soundbar mode, no audio is played through the TV speakers.
- If a mobile device connects while TV is connected, audio switches to mobile device. TV audio will not play through TV speakers. When mobile connection ends, TV audio resumes.
If the soundbar does not appear in the list of AirPlay-compatible devices
- Ensure Samsung SmartThings app terms are agreed to and device is registered.
- Ensure soundbar is not deleted from SmartThings app.
- Check if soundbar and Apple devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Note: iOS version 13.4 or later is required.
The TV doesn't display the UHD input signal.
- Adjust TV or source device settings. Refer to TV/device manual.
- Check if Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is certified by HDMI.org (HW-Q990F/Q900F models only).
Group Play isn't activated.
- Check if audio device is a new model (released 2024 or later).
- Ensure host device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Audio devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network (5GHz).
