Toyota Innova: Using the Driving Support Systems - Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)

LTA Functions

The Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) system is designed to help maintain the vehicle's lane position. When driving on roads with clear lane lines and with the dynamic radar cruise control operating, the system uses the front camera and radar sensor to detect lane lines and surrounding vehicles. It then operates the steering wheel to keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

Important Usage Note: This function is intended for use only on highways and expressways.

The LTA system will not operate if the dynamic radar cruise control is not active. In situations where lane lines are difficult to see or are not visible, such as in traffic jams, the system will provide support by tracking the path of preceding and surrounding vehicles.

If the system detects that the steering wheel has not been operated for a certain period, or if it is not being gripped firmly, the driver will receive an alert, and the function will be temporarily canceled. If the steering wheel is gripped firmly, the function will resume operation.

When the function is active, the driver will be alerted via a display and buzzer if the vehicle is likely to depart from its lane. Upon hearing the buzzer, the driver should check the surroundings and carefully operate the steering wheel to guide the vehicle back to the center of the lane.

Diagram Description: A visual representation shows a car in the center of a lane, with dashed lines indicating the lane boundaries. Arrows show the car's path being guided by the LTA system, with a smaller car ahead also being tracked.

Before Using the LTA System

WARNING:

Operating Conditions of Function

The LTA function operates when all of the following conditions are met:

Temporary Cancellation of Functions

The function may be temporarily canceled if the operating conditions are no longer met. Operation will automatically resume when the conditions are met again. A buzzer may sound to indicate a temporary cancellation if the operating conditions cease while the function is active. The steering assist can be overridden by the driver's steering wheel input.

Lane Departure Warning Function When LTA is Operating

Even if the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) warning method is set to steering wheel vibration, a warning buzzer will sound if the vehicle deviates from the lane while LTA is active. The system will not provide a warning if it detects steering wheel operation equivalent to a lane change, assuming the vehicle is not deviating.

Hands Off Steering Wheel Warning Operation

If the system detects that the driver is not holding the steering wheel, a warning message and an icon will be displayed on the multi-information display, urging the driver to grip the wheel. The warning is canceled when the system detects the steering wheel is being held. Drivers should always grip the steering wheel firmly, regardless of whether a warning is active.

If no steering wheel operations are detected for a period, the warning will activate, and the function will be temporarily canceled. This warning may also trigger if the driver makes only small, continuous steering inputs.

Situations where the hands-off steering wheel warning may not operate properly: The warning function might not operate correctly depending on vehicle conditions, steering control, or road surface.

Enabling/Disabling the System

The LTA system can be toggled ON/OFF by pressing the LTA switch. When the LTA is ON, the LTA indicator will illuminate.

Diagram Description: An illustration shows a car's interior dashboard with a button labeled 'LTA'. Pressing this button controls the system's activation.

Situations in Which Functions May Not Operate Properly

WARNING: In the following situations, the LTA functions may not operate correctly, and the vehicle could depart from its lane. Do not rely solely on these functions. The driver is responsible for maintaining awareness and controlling the steering wheel.

Operation Display of Steering Wheel Operation Support

The operating status of the LTA system is indicated through various displays:

Indicator Lane Display Steering Icon Situation
White Gray/White Gray LTA is on standby
Green Green Green LTA is operating
Orange Flashing Orange Flashing Green The vehicle is departing the lane toward the side which the lane display is flashing
