Hantek CC-65 AC/DC Current Probe
Operator's Manual
Product Image Description
The Hantek CC-65 AC/DC Current Probe is depicted as a blue and black handheld device. It features a clamp mechanism at the top, designed to encircle a conductor. The main body has a digital display area with indicators for "POWER" and "LO BAT" (low battery). Control buttons or switches are visible, labeled "10mV/A", "100mV/A", and "OFF". The device is connected to a black cable, presumably for output to a multimeter or oscilloscope.
Introduction
The Hantek CC-65 Current Probe allows for direct measurement of AC/DC current up to 65 A with a frequency response up to 20 KHz. This method eliminates the need to break circuits or compromise isolation. The probe is suitable for detecting creepage or for measurements in tight spaces due to its extended jaws. It is important to adjust the zero knob on the probe until the connected multimeter or oscilloscope reads zero before measurement.
Application Procedure
- Connect the probe to a multimeter or oscilloscope. For multimeters with a minimum 10k ohm input impedance, insert the black banana plug into the COM jack and the red banana plug into the V-Ω jack. For oscilloscopes, connect the BNC connector of the probe to the oscilloscope's BNC input.
- Set the power switch to the "ON" position. The multimeter range should be set to 1mV/10mA or 1mV/100mA. A green LED will illuminate, indicating the probe is powered on.
- For currents not exceeding 2 amperes, set the current probe range to 1mV/10mA and the multimeter range to 200mV AC or 200mV DC, depending on the current type.
- Before measuring DC current, turn the zero adjustment knobs on the probe until the multimeter displays zero. Push down the knobs until zero is achieved, then release. When using an oscilloscope, ensure it is set to DC coupled mode for DC current measurements.
- Clamp the probe jaws around the current-carrying conductor and proceed with the measurement as described above.
- When the current probe range is set to 100mV/A, the actual current is ten times the measured value in mA. For example, a measured 10 mV output corresponds to 10 × 10 = 100 mA actual current.
- When the current probe range is set to 10mV/A, the actual current is one hundred times the measured value in mA. For example, a measured 5 mV output corresponds to 5 × 100 = 500 mA actual current.
Application Notes
- For DC current, a positive output indicates current flow from the probe's top to bottom. The red banana plug is positive.
- Due to hysteresis effects, DC current measurements may not zero perfectly. To mitigate this, open and close the probe jaws several times and re-zero the instrument.
Application Safety
- The voltage of the conductor being measured should not exceed 300V DC or 240V RMS AC.
- Do not measure conductors with damaged or worn insulation to prevent harm.

Example Calculation: If a conductor carries 100 mA, the probe range is set to 1mV/10mA, yielding an output of 10mV. With a precision of 1.5%, the output is 10.15mV maximum and 9.85mV minimum. If a multimeter with 0.5% precision is used, the reading is 10.20mV maximum and 9.8mV minimum (10.15mV × (1 + 0.5%) = 10.20mV; 9.85mV × (1 - 0.5%) = 9.80mV).
