PMF and SMF Series

Inline Mixed Flow EC Fans

PMF Installation Instructions

PMF's low profile design makes it ideal for installations where space is restricted, such as false ceilings.

Remove clamp: Hands are shown removing a clamp securing a duct connector to the fan.

Adjust the support: Hands are shown adjusting a mounting bracket that attaches to the duct connector.

Couple the ducts: Hands are shown connecting a flexible duct to the fan's inlet or outlet connector.

Insert the fan body: Hands are shown inserting the fan unit into a mounting bracket that is attached to the ductwork.

Follow the wiring diagram: Hands are shown connecting wires to the terminal block on the fan unit.

The support bracket's unique design enables easy installation or removal of the case, motor, and impeller assembly without dismantling the ductwork.

SMF Installation Instructions

Unlock the plastic clips: Hands are shown pressing a red plastic clip to unlock it on the fan housing.

Open the clips on both ends: Hands are shown opening plastic clips on both ends of the fan housing to allow separation.

Remove the fan body: The fan unit is shown being lifted out of its mounting bracket.

Fix the mounting bracket with screws: A screwdriver is shown fastening a mounting bracket to a surface with screws.

Couple the ducts: Hands are shown connecting a flexible duct to the fan's outlet connector.

Lock the fan in place with the plastic clips: Hands are shown securing the fan housing by closing the plastic clips.

Wiring Diagrams

EC motor (size 074, line-fed)

Notes on various control possibilities and their applications.

Control Possibilities Schematic: A schematic shows different control inputs for the EC motor, including speed setting via PWM (1-10kHz) or variable resistance (2V-10V), full speed, and alarm/speed display outputs. It illustrates how different PWM percentages or voltage levels correspond to fan speed (e.g., 95% PWM -> n=max, <10% PWM -> n=0, start-up at >30%).

Connection Overview Block Diagram: A block diagram shows the connection between a customer circuit, a controller, and the fan. It details connections for power (L, N), ground (PE), and control signals (+10V, PWM, FG, 0-10V).

Instruction Manual

Please read the instructions carefully before installing or starting up your fan. This manual contains important information on personal and user safety measures to be followed while installing, using and carrying out maintenance work on the fan. Once the product has been installed, please hand in this booklet to the end user.

Digital copies of Pacific Ventilation installation manuals are available at www.pacificventilation.com/install. Check that the fan is in good condition while unpacking. If the fan was damaged during transport, contact sales@pacificventilation.com. Please make sure that the fan coincides with the product you have ordered.

Transport and storage

  • The packaging has been specifically designed to protect the fan under normal transport conditions. It is important to transport the fan in its original packaging to prevent any deformation or damage to the product.
  • To ensure that the fan is in good condition upon installation, it should be stored in its original packaging, in a dry and clean place, protected from dust and dirt.
  • If the fan is not in its original packaging or if there are any signs that it has been tampered with or damaged during delivery, please do not accept the delivery.
  • Avoid placing any heavy objects on the packed product and be careful not to knock or drop it.

Important safety information

  • Only qualified personnel should carry out the installation.
  • Ensure that the installation complies with the relevant standards, regulations, and electrical norms.
  • After installation, the fan complies with the following standards:
    • Standard for Low Pressure installations 2014/35 EU
    • Standard for Electromagnetic Compatibility 2014/30 EU
  • Do not use the fan in explosive or corrosive environments.
  • If you intend to install the fan to extract air from a space where a boiler or other combustion heater is installed, ensure that the building has enough air intakes for adequate combustion. The extractor outlet should not be connected to a duct used for exhausting smoke or fumes from any gas or fuel-powered device.
  • The fan is not suitable for use by children.

Safety during installation

  • Please ensure that there are no loose items near the fan before running it. These items could be sucked up by the fan and cause damage. If the fan is being installed in a duct, please ensure that the ducting is free of any debris or objects that could get sucked up by the fan.
  • When installing fans, it is important to ensure that all fittings are in place, and that the structure can support the fan's weight at full power.
  • Before installing or wiring the fan, make sure to disconnect the main power supply, even if the fan is switched off. Check that the mains supply voltage and frequency values match the wiring diagram information.
  • The electrical installation must include a double pole switch with a contact clearance of at least 3mm and be correctly sized in accordance with the Australian electrical standards. Please follow the wiring diagram for the electrical connections.
  • If an earth connection is necessary, check that it is correctly connected and that adequate thermal and overloading protection has been connected and adjusted to the corresponding limits.
  • If the fan is installed in a duct, the ducting must be exclusively for the ventilation system. Make sure there are no loose items near the fan, as they could run the risk of being sucked up by it. If it is going to be installed in a duct, check that the ducting is clean of anything that could be sucked up by the fan.

Start up

Make sure to follow these steps before turning on the fan:

  • Check that the fan is securely mounted and the electrical wiring is done correctly.
  • Ensure that all the mounting brackets, clamps, and ducts are adequately connected.
  • Make sure there are no loose materials or fittings that can be sucked up by the fan.
  • If the fan is mounted in a duct, ensure that the duct is clear of any loose materials.
  • Check that the earth fittings are correctly connected.
  • Verify that the wires are correctly connected and ready for use.
  • Ensure that the wire and electrical connections are correctly sealed and water-tight.

When starting the fan, make sure to take the following steps:

  • Check that the propeller turns in the correct direction.
  • Ensure that there are no abnormal vibrations.
  • If the circuit breaker trips, quickly disconnect the fan from the mains supply. Check the entire installation before turning the fan on again.

Maintenance

Please ensure that the fan is disconnected from the main power supply before carrying out any maintenance. This will prevent anyone else from accidentally turning on the power while maintenance is being performed.

It is important to regularly inspect the fan to prevent dirt or dust from accumulating on the propeller, turbine, motor, or bearings. This could be dangerous and significantly reduce the life of the fan unit. Inspections should be performed with the machine's working conditions in mind.

When cleaning, take care not to disturb the fan blades.

All maintenance and repair work must comply with Australian regulations.

Recycling

Please remember to be responsible towards future generations by recycling all materials whenever possible. Kindly deposit all leftover materials and packaging in their respective recycling containers. In addition, please hand in any replaced fans to the nearest waste handler that deals with this type of product. Thank you for your cooperation.
